believed in JJ from the first time I heard him. never heard any bad reviews, his tunes brounght me through really hard time, the good times too. Why? cause iv'e listened to him practically constantly! He's in my top 5 hell maybe 3.
Exactly! I've seen Clapton half a dozen times. I am a fan. I saw JJ Cale once in Fort Worth at an intimate club / botany & observatory rooftop downtown venue. It blew me away. It was 1990 & he was touring with Christine Lakeland, Spooner Oldham & Tim Drummond in his band. Sure Clapton could play circles around him but he didn't have near the hear felt soul & originality that JJ did.
Best concert I ever saw was Mr. Cale at The Palms in Davis, CA, around 1996. Sweetest sounds I'm ever likely to hear. I laughed when he died and his website said "J. J. Cale does not need your donation."

J.J. Cale is legendary.. yet so self effacing . When I saw him in concert in Portland Ore couple years ago.. after the opening act is done.. and WHILE the roadies are removing stage gear and preparing for J.J. .. House lights are up... J.J. just walks out and sits on a stool and begins tuning his guitar.. no big deal.. Put on a great show..

he always has superbly tight bands while being so chilled. i love him since I was 14 in 1996 and my firend's dad showed me 'shades', you know with the gitanes-cover. dying breed
he created some songs that became hits sung by other singers like clapton, i.e., cocaine and after midnight. sometime the real musician is just there in the background like JJ calle.
