Evening, I have owned LR products for about 33 years. My current car is a RR L405 Autobiography 2017. I have no accidents or convictions and 20+years NCB. I live in Ramsbottom ( very low crime area) and have a Ghost 2 immobiliser and Satellite tracking fitted. I also only cover 7000 miles per year and an 63 years old. So when I asked for an insurance quote from LR insurance was surprised and annoyed when they declined to quote and would not tell me the reason. To say I am pissed off with LR is an understatement.
Hi Colin i agree with you 100%. I have a similar situation as you and Land Rover refused me insurance. It's all a scam from them. Wish I could move over to another brand but love the Range Rover.
Similar situation with me RRS P440e new in September JLR wouldn't insure it. I got a fairly reasonable price elsewhere, thankfully. Failed in week two of ownership and followed with 17 weeks at the dealers. Expensive insurance for a car we couldn't use!! Shocking service from the dealer and absolutely no interest from JLR themselves.
@miketilsley5898 Once they have your money, they don't care. Aftershaves service is disgusting, and I, for one, will not have them anywhere near my car after the first service....
Credit to JLR, they emailed me a couple of weeks ago about a security update (N888) for my 2024 RR, I called to book it in and I had a Land Rover Assist chap come to my house the next day at 7am to apply it, 15mins and off he went. Outstanding. I still have keyless disabled though 😆
i also had a call from JLR to update my MY24 RR AutoB. two calls and an email, inviting me to book it in anytime...must be VERY important!! i did and since then i have these symtoms: proximity key doesnt unlock the car if left for a couple of days, you have to use the fob. more importntly, two mins after locking, there is a fan or motor running constantly (from behind the driver's headlight) after two days the low battery warning light comes on. just waiting for it to catch fire or burn itself out. cant park at airport as the battery will deplete after a week or so. Local dealer can't get me in before the 28 Jun. Crazy!
Unfortunately most insurance companies don't even ask about Ghost immobilisers, trackers, whether or not you have CCTV etc. The whole insurance industry is not fit for purpose when it comes to insuring cars
There. He said it. Doesn’t matter what you do, insurance on RR’s is staying right up there. If the CEO is telling the truth, then why is insurance going up 1,000 fold? Does this means that the insurance companies are scamming the owners? 🤷🏻♂️ However you look at it, seems this is the case. When JLR said that they’re making the RR brand elitist, I never, for one minute, thought that they’d do it this way.
I do love my Velar 2019 which has had the update, insurance renewal is due in July hopefully it won’t be stupid otherwise I’ll be a ex Velar owner handing it back. Thanks for the update Richard much appreciated 👍
I taught Mark McCann everything I know 😂. Great video by the way I just think that JLR are just hoping it's all going to blow over. A storm in a teacup in their opinion but they don't seem to care that much as they are making good profit.
I changed my RR Autobiography and went for the Bentley Bentayga V8 S it cost me £475 as opposed to my RR quoted £5,700 my BB is a far superior car and just as capable as the RR off-road
I'm on my 6th RR Full fat and have always loved them, never any major issues, anymore than other brands. however, i was tempted to switch to the Bentayga, as the latest RR has no switches or buttons. A major safety issue I believe. The drive, however, is far superior to previous models, it looks great (subjective) something i dislike about the Bentley and the only reason i hven't jumped...yet. The bentley is more bespoke feeling, but it should be at £60k more.
Just for fun. Found a nice low miles RR SV Autobiagraphy this afternoon Just over £55000. 2018. Low miles. Perfect for me as I still have an L322 that I love, but its time to change. Went stright to Land Rover Insurance. Im fairly perfect. Not able to insure. 😮 Ill try again at the end of the year to see if things have improved. Thank you for the update.
Just recently traded in my L494 Sport, completely lost confidence with JLR. Left it far too late before any action, and still nothing for the earlier cars. Last LR I ever own. Shame really, as it appeared I had a “good one” regarding reliability. Although oil dilution problems was diabolical
I finally took the plunge and bought a 68 Plate RRS Autobiography last month and got several quotes around £900, which I didn't think was too bad. I've got 20+ years no claims and live in a rural area.
I had a RS Turbo and eventually ended up with a stop lock and a had a length off chain from the seat mounting, around the steering wheel and removed the ignition regulator so it wouldn’t start, and 7 foot off Barb wire under the bonnet to stop them reaching, up to underneath the car and releasing the bonnet catch,it did stop them getting the car but then they decided to start taking parts, off the car eg rear spoiler and such like but they did eventually, get the car when I was out but this was back in the 90s and the car thieves will always win 🤷♂️👍👍
I own a 2017 BMW X5 and have ghost immobiliser and Scorpion S5 tracker fitted. My insurance company gives me a discount for the tracker but I get no benefit for the ghost immobiliser which I find strange as it is the device which gives me the most peace of mind out of the two of them.
I just want to say I really enjoyed this video. I was interested in purchasing a range Rover evoke autobiography P 300 E, after doing some research and negotiating a £5000 discount off the vehicle brand-new September delivery and then discover to my horror that you find sure the vehicle through the Land Rover website it was going to cost £5100 a year, going on some comparison websites we managed to get a lower quote of £2900 which is still ridiculously high year on year out we decided to cancel the order postcode is IG3 London London Boroughbridge 10 years. No claims bonus car will be in the drive with another car blocking it.
Thanks Richard for keeping us up dated. We still haven't had the call to update either of our L405s. We have a 71 plate 525p Autobi and a 67 plate 3.0se. I've disconected both lots of keyless entry for a slight piece of mind but it's a concern when we go on our travels. I had a recent quote for a Ghost system and my insurance (Hastings) would increase by £75. There are to many inconsistencies with insurers.
I really doesn’t matter what extra security measures such as the ghost , insofar if the insures are treating the security updated models the same as ones not updated you might as well put the £500 plus cost towards your insurance, insurers are just ripping off the customer knowing we have to insure our vehicles.
I recently got my BCM update and renewed my policy on my 18 plate range Rover sport and mentioned I have had the update done and Admiral didn’t know anything about the update. Therefore it didn’t make a difference and I also asked about any extra security and agin was told it wouldn’t make a difference in price. I do have a multiple policy including my transit connect and home insurance which in total was £2130, I had done a comparison site and was quoted more just for the Range Rover alone.
I’ll still be fitting an aftermarket immobiliser when my new Defender arrives. I’ve double checked that it can be removed before selling on or trade in. Also, use a recognised fitter and not some dodgy geezer
Hi. Ivejust got rid of my 2019 discovery 5 due to many many issues. But ultimately the increase in insurance was a killer. My car was recalled by JLR in jan 2024 for a security update. Even though this had been done it made no difference to the insurance premium!! My car was also fitted with a teletrac system whereby the key wouldn’t talk to the engine to start unless the teletrac fob was nearby!!! And this still made no difference to the insurance cost! 😡
Once car is outside manufacturer’s warranty a Ghost is a no brainer - Inside warranty talk to manufacturer- they are brilliant - so simple to use and very effective.
My 2017MY (18 Reg) went for service last month, dealer said bring two keys as they would ask JLR if they could do the security update at the same time. When I collected the car I asked if they had done the update and was told yes.
Re the evoque windscreen. Mine leaked and I fixed it with ‘captain Tolleys creeping crack cure’ . Which is recommended for water leaks on boats around the portholes etc. it is very thin glue that moves by capillary action into the crack.saved a fortune in getting windscreen out etc.
Thanks for this. Every helpful. What I find interesting is that JLR insurance won’t even offer a discount for the security update they telling people they need to get.
Hi Richard great updates on lr insurance just a quick update my husband tried to get a quote for our discovery sport hse 2017 from landrover insurance 66 years old full no claims no accidents both him and me came back sorry unable to insure you at this time!! great buy the car unable to insure it!! Currently with saga insurance went from £323 to £568 last god knows what it’s going to be this year can you give out the link for your insurance again thanks keep up the good work.
Just renewed my insurance on Range Rover Sport (2014 64 plate) It’s on multi car policy with home insurance attached (ADMIRAL) the price dropped £200 from last year on the Range Rover Sport.
Hi I’m thinking of getting a immobiliser for my new defender when it arrives.when asking a company I was told the factory installed tracker is useless as it’s positioned in a standard place. Not knowledgable on this I’m told thieves therefore can take it out quickly. Would you happen to know if this is true please. Thanks
Ref Ghost on new Mini I was told by dealer it would invalidate warranty and shouldn’t worry as have Gap insurance! With all the talk of immobilisers does seem like owners are ignoring the warranty concerns.
Richard, according to the JLR spokesman who did a Q&A in the Comments section of one of your previous videos, the UWB tech was introduced in 2018 to deal with 'Relay Theft' issues. This new security update campaign is to "protect against the Body Control Module method" of theft. However, I am unclear as to whether or not vehicles older than 2018 can have the BCM security upgrade, but not the earlier UWB tech upgrades as this would presumably involve new keys?
JLR wrote notifying that insurance was dur, called they never call back filled in the online form and rejected.! found another thankfully. But as usual spoke to JLR reference to the update for 2016 and they just said no news not holding my breath !!!!
RICHARD, I have been keeping up with your updates over the past 6 months or so. My daughter is a Chartered Surveyor in London and has today received her renewal quote for a 2016 Range Rover Sport with 19 years NCB (although it was stolen last year but retrieved). Her fully comprehensive - inc business use, policy renewal premium with Sabre is £26,442. Her Agent says they are the only who will insure her. This year she’s with AXA. Any advice!
lv wouldn’t quote on a 2018 supercharged L405. They renewed my tdv8 L322 for £440 though, which had gone up £100 from last year. So chugging derv for a while longer by the looks of it.
I live in Liverpool im 52 have a rr 4.4tdv8 amd pay 700 fully comp with 6 yrs no claims, so dont understand where everyone lives getting quotes for thousands!
It seems ludicrous that a simple immobiliser is not factory standard. I've had factory immobilisers on Honda bikes since 2005, they can only be started with the key.
JLR state that any vehicle with a confirmed back order part which leaves your vehicle “off the road” will provide you with a loan/hire car…this is costing JLR £85 a day!!! I have a new RR with a windscreen that suffered a crack across the drivers side. There is no ETA worldwide to replace the screen and the vehicle has now been off the road for a month…they claim they can’t “line pick” a screen from the production line? I don’t know why not as they are clearly still producing RR on a daily basis…
LR own insurance confirmed to me this week that they have no stipulation for an active tracker, and do NOT offer any incentive to do so. Total madness when LR's own insurance don't even recognise the JLR Secure Tracker Pro product.
Glad I am out of JLR after 9 years of owning a RR. Security fixes making no difference to insurance cost. Insurance and JLR profiting from this misery. The elephant in the room is theft is a crime and the police enforcement on criminals seem less of a priority.
I have a MY2023 Defender, got the BCM update last week, so LR anything from the MY22 have the BCM update already in place is wrong in my case. Not sure if others have that.
Does this affect a 2011 Range Rover Sport (L320) SDV6 HSE (Jaguar variant, 3 litre diesel) & are JLR going to roll out the bcm update back to 2011 models, or further, & if so, have you any idea of the time frame? Also, could this be arranged privately at my own cost from a JLR approved agent, in order to get it done sooner? Thanks.
Firstly, I wish to thank you for passing me to your insurance contact with regard to my daughters 2016 Range Rover Sport renewal quote of £26,400 based in London. Sadly he had no success in getting any other quotes. Also I’ve tried JLR Insurance with no success either. My wife in Bedford got a quote of £3600 for the car but her teachers car insurance company would not cover my daughter as a named driver (19 years NCB, with 2 recent no fault claims ( incl one theft, but retrieved ), and 2 motorway speeding fines). I wonder whether you may have come across any other solutions?
Richard when your next onto the insurance companies, can you ask for a no theft policy cover. As I am happy to accept the theft risk myself and put my own deterrents on the vehicle.
Hi i have got 10 years of NCD i got an audA5 2014 and 2005 automatic car for my wife i pay £2300 years but 3 months i got 68 plat Range Rover sport Autobiography called aviva insurance to add that as 3rd car on my insurance they ask 10k years. But when i ask tham for temporary monthly car insurance it cost £75. I dont know hiw they work out that.
i just got a quote for a range rover SVR the value or the car 70k , i am 60 years old , live in the midlands and it was £980 ............ that was beginning of April using meerkat that was 10k miles a year with parking on drive ..............
I have rr sport 2016. Had chat with land rover support and they said no date for update on that model. Whan trying to renew insurance ask if tracker fitted but not if any additional aecurity. I have a steering wheel kock nade by bulldog very well made. I have land rover in control tracker and 24/7 monitor . It is parked iff eoad on drive at front of the gose. Land rover insurance would not five me quote i did manage to get insurance simular to last year. Why are land river bot advising people to turn off keyless entry to stop the signal
Does a through the steering wheel lock have any value in a new Range Rover as JLR would have us believe that they can’t be broken into without smashing the glass
Keyless entry is not the issue with the latest RR's as thieves are using the BCM socket to start the vehicles if they haven't had the security upgrade.
Had my 2012 discovery 4 stolen august2023 on a multi car with wife’s 72 mg ev4 insurance £1189 last year, replaced it with a 2015 D4 had S5 tracker and Ghost fixed this year’s insurance £2300 , with Hastings again couldn’t find any were cheap. Over 9 years no claims discount. Joke
I have been waiting for a Telematic part for over 6 months. All my incontrol and Neg is not working. Now i know, why the Dealer is lie about the diagnose.
RICHARD, An update on yesterday in which I have phoned Marshall’s, LR Agent local to me. They kindly emailed me details of their Land Rover insurance scheme which I duly filled in the relevant details online, but sadly they have declined to quote! I think we’re marooned
Huge fan of what you are doing, thank you! Is there any update on when we expect parts availablity to get better and also when the security rollout will happen for 2015-2017 vehicles?
I've owned a 3.6 V8 range rover sport in 2016 changed over to a ford ranger, now thats gone I tried getting a range rover vouge but can't get insurance same with the sport, I've got a new discovery sport it's lovely but I want a range rover 🤬
This JLR Donut should mention that when compared to other stolen vehicles in the top ten, total JLR vehicle numbers on the road are dwarfed by the numbers of the other vehicles sometimes by factors of ten times or more. JLR = small amount of vehicles but by percentage more stolen.
I have a Bentley Continental insured with LV for 6/7 years , never made a claim yet the same happened to me just a letter saying they would not be reinsuring!
UPDATE BREAKS YOUR CAR. JLR still rolling out a security update that screws up other features of the car configuration. Adjustable steering, memory functions, auto headlights, auto exit height, etc. then trouble getting booked in for fixing, so be careful what you wish for!
How can I check that my 2021 Range Rover Sports has got the latest technology/update? When calling our local dealer, they told us that it was up to date, but I felt they were just saying this to please us.
S5 has tags that are paired to the tracking system. If they are not present when the car is moved the tracking company will call the owner. There is an additional version called an S5+ that will not allow a start without the tags. This is different from the cheaper S7 that has no tags so you have to tell the tracking company that it is stolen before they start looking for it.
So am i rite in saying the insurance advice is that i need more cars to spread the cost over multiple cars gee thanks My defender has gone from £220 per month to £475 over night killing me off 16 years no claims
I think it is widely accepted that the JLR business model is to keep knocking out disposable but expensive uninsurable vehicles with poor reliability and build quality. The quicker they breakdown or get stolen helps the model as the numpty's will keep buying
I share my details with you, I never received a phone call so I insured my new RR sport with Admiral for circa £1500. Disappointing not to have received a call.
Also not received a call after Providing details on the form, although not due for renewal until September. Hopefully they'll make contact nearer there time.
Come on, not a Scam - you know that! I am communicating facts, if it’s not for you that not a problem. Don’t go round calling things a Scam without facts please.
Range rovers are rubbish cars. bad poor quality. Why would anyone continue to buy these cars allowing the manufacturers to continue the poor quality. All I can think is that you think it’s makes you look rich. But if you truly are rich and can afford the car then Why would Insurance be of a concern no matter how much 🤔
I agree they are over rated rubbish! It’s just a show off vehicle saying how well you are pretending you are doing in life? Mostly these cars are bought on finance or lease so the buyer cannot afford to buy it out right only if you are a football which gets paid millions every year 😳
LR are a joke. The insurance companies are utter thieves. Can’t understand why people want LR cars that are expensive and regularly break down. I’ve finally given up on them and going for the new Toyota Land Cruiser
