I'm Richard and a huge Welcome to Challenge The Road.
I had a dream to own all the cars I could not afford when I was younger and slowly but surely keep working hard and adding cars that really mean something to me. I also review my own cars and predict what is going to happen in the future of motoring
Richard delivers to you all his knowledge and stories gained over his last 30 years.
We really appreciate your support of the channel 🚗
A CTR Caterham driving package would be pretty awesome, as it's a perfect drivers car alot of people would want to experience but not necessarily want to own... But personally please do a 458 😊
So I'm strongly considering picking up a used Audi E-Tron 55, one that is a 2022 plate with less than 10k miles on the clock. In 2022 when it was new, it was £85,000! today it is £35,000. Too good to be true? I barely do any mileage, about 6k miles a year and I know the E-Tron batteries can do well over 150k without needing any servicing, so not an issue. Also the battery has an 8 year warranty on it. Just wondering is there anything else I should be concerned about? yes it'll continue to depreciate, but It can't go much lower surely? it's a giant, luxury, high-end Electric SUV with over 400bhp, ride quality better than a GLE or X5, if it had a petrol motor in it, it would be pushing £100,000.
Update from the fishing lodge. What a lovely setting and certainly a great place to get away from it all. Cannot beat an afternoon at the lake to just relax and unwind. Keep up the good work on JLR. Have successfully helped 2 of my neighbours get their cars updated following the advice of your channel.
Another useful update video Richard. With regards getting my car security upgraded (a 2021 vehicle bought late last year), my local LR dealer (same one as you I suspect in west Kent) are pretty useless. Rung several times in last 5-6 months.."computer says no" is their standard response to my questions of,..1) can I get it done, 2) when might my car be due to be done, 3) how far are LR down the list for my vehicle/post code etc, 4) how many cars have been done that need doing, 5) have you started old cars yet before you have finished the more "vulnerable recent" cars....The response is simply "there is no update instruction for your car on our computer and we know nothing more".... I find it staggering they can't even get an integrated updating system in place to help customers...I've got keyless go disabled and garaged every night etc etc but that not the point
Had my rs5 stolen a few weeks ago, keys in a Faraday pouch, shit heads broke in the house while we were sleeping and took the keys. Not only do you need some kind of ghost alarm, steering locks and Faraday pouches, most importantly you need cameras with alerts and wired house alarms to wake you up! anti snap locks and handles, bollards or gates and be ready to risk more jail time than they'll get fighting off the 2 or 3 scum bags when they kick your door in because they aren't brave enough to come one on one and if they do get caught the justice system is a joke. Things we're forced to do to keep our family safe and what we work for, Good luck.
Hi Richard another informative video thanks for the updates. I contacted lr only last week to ask if they could update my 2016 rr they said they had no outstanding campaigns on my vehicle. Thankfully mine doesn’t have keyless, but it does have a ghost and it’s great 👍
These are good value for money currently for sure. I would love to see you driving a properly maintained and setup Gen 2 Viper. If you want a truly analog, pure driving experience there is not much that touches the Viper. At this point I just want anything with borderline too much engine for the weight. Power/Torque/weight I would say the Vipers still outperform even the latest GT3RS
I wonder whether, once Land Rover have got their security enhancements installed across most of the fleet, the thieves will simply move onto other luxury brands. I'm unconvinced that the security on other brands are much better.
That’s one main problem that has occurred with the battery 4:5 inch grinders, I use to take my ignition relay out of my RS turbo, when it was left at night they could break, in and they did but the could not drive it away 👍
Makes me wonder if a lot of these higher end cars are getting their keys cloned by insiders at dealers and airports etc as I’ve seen a lot of videos lately where they’re just walking up and unlocking the cars without using the key signal range extenders.
A determined thief will be able to steal a car no matter what manufacturer security features it has on it. I think the best simple protection option is a small concealed fuel pump cut-out switch,. The car is going nowhere, unless the thief can find it.
Our X5s (2018 & 2020) do not have keyless go .. they do not have convenience packs (using your foot under the back of the cars etc) .. we just keep the keys in Faraday pouches (including the spares)
Hi Richard. I came to your channel through Geoffbuyscars. Just a thought…for those that do get caught stealing these cars (a small percentage I’m sure), what are the likely consequences? If the chances are low and the penalties weak then I guess the crime will persist.
If the thieves want the vehicle no matter what vehicle it is, the technology is online for them to take it. Some alarm system that need to use a code or a dead man switch is the only thing that going to stop them driving off in the vehicle. They are still targeting Land Rover be of the lack of parts available for them. But Ev’s are also being targeted now, an the thief of these is growing quickly, due to the cost of parts.
Might be improving BUT insurance premiums remain sky high and residuals through the floor. We’re now stuck with ours on its PCP for longer than anticipated.
If we buy a expensive Land Rover than have to go old school to make it secure every time we park it up I mean tracker ghost ok but that’s not enough now we need steering lock wheel clamp block it in with another vehicle like what next the car manufacturers need to make these vehicles more secure which day should have done from when they was first manufactured
Getting a faraday pouch is a simple, inexpensive, and wise move. Failing that, key wrapped in kitchen baking foil will do the job too, to block the signal from/to the key.
Sadly any car that has keyless entry is vulnerable to these types of thefts. And in a country that clearly doesn’t secure its borders and is not enforcing the laws properly it’s only going to get worse…. Key is do your best on your own security like goghst emobalisers trackers and so on.
The manufacturers should stop giving 'comfort access' option. If you are putting the key in a Faraday pouch, you still have to take the key out of the pouch to make comfort access work. This makes comfort access useless, as it defeats the purpose anyway. May as well just take the key out of your pocket and press the button to open and close the car.
Eh? You only need the faraday when storing the key indoors, to deter relay theft. When you need to drive the car, you will have to take your key with you to be able to unlock and start the car anyway. Nor will the faraday have any effect whatsoever on the BCM theft mode, which is what the JLR software security upgrades are intended to deter.
Even 2023 models are now getting updates. N863 covers newer ones now, and the LR assist guy reckoned they were on at least their 5th modification of the software...
Thanks for this Richard, my Velar has been upgraded and I use a faraday pouch religiously. Insurance wise it’s definitely a post code lottery, I live up North and my premium has gone down much too my surprise considering all the media hype.
Cannot beat a Ghost 2 mated with a Scorpion S5, for the people who are concerned about threats to people for the secret code, leave the car in valet mode, only takes 5 second to do and it allows the car to start and drive but...but if it exceeds 31 mph it will revery back to full ghost mode after it stops. Thats where the scorpion comes in, first if the fob is not with the car when it sets off, the monitoring centre knows and rings you, after that the police are informed of the cars movements via a live stream. I have a 2023 BMW X3 and the fob goes to sleep (all BMW fobs) after 2 minutes of not being moved so nothing for the scum bags to read.
@@droitwichgas I know but that does not help 1, the older cars and 2, insurance premiums. Having to usr a faraday pouch is so old fashioned, keys should enter sleep mode when away from the car, like mine
@@davehorton7712 The latest Land Rover cars key's don't need to go to sleep as they can't be cloned. LR can't really turn the clock back and update the older models.
@@droitwichgas the sad truth is, if a key fob still transmits at some point in the future the scumbags will find a way of cloning it again. Best option is for the fob to sleep, no need for a faraday pouch. Does not take much to rent a new LR and get some boffin to understand how it works then defeat it.
stunning colour and spec, I also prefer the 991 over 992 GT3 RS and agree nows a good time to buy 👍 Looks like you've lost a few pounds now the Taycan's gone also 🤣
I believe the engines on the 991.2 gt3 & 3RS is the best. The 992’s just sound loud with no tone changing the louder it gets. On these, passing 4,000 rpm the tone changes every 1,000 rpm until you hit 9,000
