Not Filipino myself but I’m married to a Filipina and we have a son. Seeing this makes me crack up and smile because my son can see some representation for both sides of his lineage. He can look up and say “I can make it too”. That makes me happy.

I remember being overseas, working the personnel screening area, where we'd inspect and vet other-country nationals to do contract work on-base. I took a short smoke break, and I heard this older woman speaking Tegalog at the bench nearby. I offered her a cigarette and her and I spoke for a few minutes. She knew some English, so I asked her where in the Philippines she's from. I told her my mother was from San Andres. She gave me this strange and sort of shocked expression. Her bus came then, and she had to go, but the last thing I remember was her telling me something like how she knew I've made my mother proud. It took me a few minutes to realize what that actually meant, and it hit hard when I realized it. My mother worked her ass off, living in poor conditions as a kid, but met my dad, came to America, and raised us, giving us everything she couldn't have, even when my parents didn't have much money. I still think about that lady all the time. I hope her and her family are doing well.

You made every Pinoy proud for having that pride to acknowledge your roots. So many of our people are for some reason embarrassed of it..I guess because of the poverty of our country. I can speak English well but when I get a chance to meet another Filipino here in Canada, i always make sure I speak to them in our local dialect to proclaim that am brave enough to acknowledge that I am part of our tribe.

I grew up hearing the Filipino accent. My great grandmother is Filipina. She gree up in the Philippines during WWII. I myself am only a small amount Filipino. But I've always love when we wod have big family get together, and getting to enjoy the delicious food.

For us 1/4 Filipino is still Filipino. Just like Blacks if you had a tiny amount of Black your Black. It's the same for Filipinos, we don't discriminate. We just don't like those 1/2 or 1/4 that dont acknowledge their Filipino heritage.

@@Um.canal.que.eu.sigo. That's where exactly Titas/Titos came from Tia/Tio. It's a sign of respect. It doesn't really mean your aunt/uncle. In my old time we use Tia/Tio(Tiya/Tiyo) words becomes hybrid as times goesbye. Jokoy haven't heard his great grandparents speaking Spanish. I did they have a hardtime transitioning to English. That's how probably the thick accent formed. Besides we have to learn our own dialect in every islands. When you go to the next island they also speak different languages. Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilonggo, Waray, Chavacano etc. The Spanish words got tangled up with English in Filipino dialects.

I have NEVER met a rude filipino person in all my 45 years of life in Los Angeles California. I have was hospitalized for a brain tumor removal surgery and a stroke in January 2019 and had several Filipino nurses all of them very kind and afterwards rented a room in a Filipino household and the owner was very kind with me. Treated me as family even though I was using a walker (still do).

Both my parents immigrated from the Philippines and I was born in Michigan and my parents never taught me Tagalog or Bisaya so I am one of the whitest Filipino Americans you’ll ever meet I always felt out of touch with my Filipino side because of the lack of language but I always feel so special whenever I see Filipino people in any context. Makes me connect with something I could never really connect with. I remember feeling like the Philippines was some special Asian country because whenever I was asked what ethnicity I was as a kid, It was only ever Chinese or Japanese lmao

What I hate the most about American-ized Filipinos, or Filipinos raised stateside, they talk down or make fun of other Filipinos with thick accents. Our grandparents migrated to this country speaking that way, imagine all the racism and mockery they recieved in the late 60s/70s. Now its the Filipinos raised here talking down at them. Thats my biggest pet peeve with Filipinos.

Thats funny about our accents. Im the 90kid from Laguna, Phil that studied HS in Australia and I somehow adapted the OZ accent but when I got back I lost the accent and im now speaking in a Neutral accent. Out here in the Los Angeles area, there have always been Filipinos since I could remember. BTW, I'm Mexican. I went to parochial school from 1974 (1st grade) to 1982 (8th grade) with two Filipinos who I am still friends with to this day. One is a nurse 😄 and the other is an I.T. professional.

I think that amongst us SOuth east asian, Filipino has the coolest accent. And they wear their accent with pride without the need to emulate an American or British accent Shalom from KL

Oh no, it's not like that at all. We're actually ashamed of our accents, that's why when we speak other languages we mimic their way of talking as much as possible. If there's a Filipino accent that means your (insert language here) speaking skills still needs working on. In fact we have a little meme that jokes about how unappealing our accent is to us. But we also love mimicking other language accents for comedic effect. From mannerisms of how a relative talks, to regional languages, to international languages. We half-love half-hate ourselves. That's the Filipinos in a nutshell.😂

In the last 30 years or so there have been 3 great Filiponos who made it in international news: Efren Bata " Magician" Reyes, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and now "Jokoy" who is known to his mother as "Joseph Glenn Herbert or Josep". 😊😂😅
