I heard it on the Italian radio almost 30 years ago. Daily at 06:00-07:00 (perhaps it lasted longer, I am sure it started at 06:00) there was a musical program called «Ouverture». There I also heard for the first time my favorite piano concert to date, the one composed by Anton Arensky, the «Allegro con fuoco» from Ferdinand Hiller's second piano concerto and many, many other musical gems...

Ah yes, the great Ponti, who, despite a most alarming wrong note, gives a far more interesting (that is to say, far less 'careful', and much more exuberant) performance of this charming piece.

@@robingordon-powell6736 Ponti practically sight read these pieces as there was not much money and time to spend on meticulous recording.

@@bartjebartmans Yes, I'm well aware of that, and more power to him. But he did have all these 'obscure' Concertos in his active repertoire and could offer to play any of them in concert with any orchestra. Probably with minimal time to prepare in advance, but he had a phenomenal memory and great facility in the fingers. I worked with him several times, and he was seriously scary. Not, perhaps, the most sensitive interpreter, all the time, of what he was playing - but it is impossible to call any of his recordings or live performances dull.
