I like the way you can hear how their voices sounded in the opera house - BIG and opulent! I LOVE Joan's voice particularly in 1972! She had the young sound and the mature sound at the same time. I love Rigoletto - it's a beautiful opera with beautiful melodies. Thanks for posting this Vinicius...
Thankyou for posting these amazing recordings. Joan has the most brilliant voice I have ever heard and although I never saw her live I feel from your postings that I can get a true feeling of how completely wonderful it would have been to have been there at her live performances.
This run of performances was perhaps the most glorious rendition of Rigoletto in its entire history. The level of singing elevates this music to the highest level possible, taking on a gravitas and dramatic sweep other performances cannot approach. Joan’s Gilda is no chirpy canary as is often the case in that role, but a unique prima donna in full flight, passionate and delicate by turns. What a treat!
