This radio recording of the concert , there are two items missing : the opening aria of the concert : Di cor mio from Handels Alcina and the sleepwalking scene from Bellini's Sonnambula at the end of the concert.
The 3 items that are there are real gems of vocal splendour ! Bonynge conducted the concert and like on several occasions he was fiendishly booed. Much to the anger of Joan Sutherland, thats why she refused to sing in Paris until the very end of her career. She loved her husband, best friend and coach very much. Some people think he was not a good conductor, but its all a matter of taste !!!!!!!! I attended many of their performances, he was always great with fine feeling for 18th and 19th century composers. Without Bonynge we would not have had the bel Canto Sutherland. It was thanks to him only , that she developed her fantastic coloratura technique.
