Joanna Lumley hosts the BAFTA Film Awards live from the Royal Albert Hall in London. Nominees for the sought-after Bafta masks include Olivia Colman, Glenn Close, Viggo Mortensen, Viola Davis, Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Steve Coogan, Melissa McCarthy, Sam Rockwell, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. Nominated films include The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, BlacKkKlansman and A Star Is Born.

The comments here are confusing - did we watch the same clip?! Joanna was an AMAZING host! the problem was the crowds lacklustre reactions, and perhaps the jokes, that perhaps she didn't write. Her delivery was classy and professional af though, there is no one like her! National treasure. Seamless.

Joanna 5/5, audience 1/5, script 0/5. Why do scriptwriters/directors/producers feel the need to turn otherwise great hosts into pseudo comedians? Let Ms. Lumley be Ms. Lumley, the intelligent, inspired, worldly and eloquent voice of sensibility that she is. Burn the script! Oh, and who else could maintain such composur under such dire circumstances? She should be awarded a BAFTA for Leading Actress in A Prime Time Farce.

Bradley Cooper laughed the first time he was mentioned and the second time, being compared to Alfonso Cuaron, he looked like he wanted to bury himself. That humiliation ended that opening on a very uncomfortable note.

Yeh Madgeney your right shes the one that has to say it she should have final say, but you never know how people behind the scenes can screw someone over. It definitely felt like the first page of all the worst beginning jokes in a writers room. if the writers are reading these comments(eeek) you're allowed to screw up, forgive yourself, but you better find a way of making it up to joanna and shes been all round the world already so its going to have to be good.

As an actress surely she could have learned her lines better, practiced, and delivered her jokes more punchily? It's not the joke writers' fault - it's her own. "That's another fine dress you got me into" could have at least been attempted to be delivered in her best Ollie voice. She's had years of experience at acting, she cpuldn't do that one thing!

I love Joanna TO DEATH, but I feel sad for her here as an awards host stuck with unspectacular jokes--most of them probably scripted--that coax barely any amusement. Joanna, you're such a fine actress and lady, but YOU ARE MORE THAN THIS. Good going, though, not losing one bit of your dignity in spite of it. Also, thumbs up to Jennifer Lawrence for coming right to you after this show got over and making sure you weren't sick from embarrassment or anything.

Joanna Lumley is a national treasure and a divine woman but holy fuck this was a multiple car crash of a monologue that had me wishing she'd just skip the script and get on with the awards. I'd love to know who actually wrote this shit as it was nothing short of an execrable dirge of puerile wank that even Stephen Fry could elicit a laugh from. The Klan film festival one, in particular, was so awkward I'm sure I felt the Earth itself cringe and Steve Coogan pretty much summed the whole thing up with a friendly smile that seemed to say love you, Joanna, but please stop now. Definitely need to rethink a new presenter for next year ...

Oooof. Whichever producer signed-off on those jokes needs to never be let near anything involving comedy again. The Laurel and Hardy joke was weaker than an octogenarian after a massive heart-attack. And 'The Clan Film Festival'?! I imagine that the intention was to have at least one joke that's on the edge - something that, say, Ricky Gervais would do - but the only offensive thing about that joke is how deeply unfunny it is.
