Not to take anything away from Joanne ST and JB who are great, but just to say that the intro, link and melody is taken from Janis Joplin’s version live at Woodstock. Lovely stuff

After I heard this that melody stuck in my head for days. Still is. Just love this version of Summertime.

Really helpful vid. But two questions: one, your tab sheet shows a high F# end of bar 2. I can't hear or see that appear on your play through. Second question, is the end of the intro, the run up to the tune itself in there too somewhere or did you leave it out?

Great effort Henry! I stumbled upon your video by accident while searching for something else, and was still stuck on it nearly an hour later ! The riffs are so melodic, I forgot what I was looking for :) !! But, the main reason being that your demonstration of similar chords on lower, middle and upper fretboard and the scale notes that would 'fit'; was so helpful, that it inspires ways to improvise when the band I play for covers Summertime! I have tried downloading the tabs on both MacBook Pro and Ipad Pro without much luck. Are you able to email the tabs to me? Thanks in advance. Looking forward to more - keep up the good work.

Have only just discovered Joann Shaw Taylor myself - incredible singer/guitarist. Not having much luck finding guitar tab for her music - would love it if you could do a breakdown of some of her other songs!! As many have already stated, this is the Janis Joplin version. They shrunk down the intro, added Joe's lead and took out the horn section, but it really is the same core rendition. People who think Janis couldn't sing should give her version a listen. I wish you would do a guitar lesson on THAT version...

You don’t know what this rendition is. It is probably the best and iconic version of Summertime by Big Brother and the Holding Company. She plays it well but so do many kids in cover bands
