@@pattralerkasem8210 Same! I'm so glad that during the last year I've finally discovered Joaquin - not only as an incredible actor but also as a relatable and inspiring person 💝
True, but you'll notice he is the same way with people he is very close to who are very genuine. I've always assumed it is because he wants his work to speak for itself, which he does (acting) because it's a big component of his passion and who he is at his core, but also, doesn't think that it's deserving of awards and these extravagant events, or all that important in the bigger picture, such as compared to many of the humanitarian issues that he is passionate about. It was also not lost on me that the most genuine sounding "Thank you" I heard from him in this entire video was the one he gave directly to the fans following the flash cards.
He's a cinnamon bundle of awkwardness and it shows. It's crazy how he doesn't notice how alluring he is! We must protect this brilliant, kind, genuinely relatable man at all costs.
Oh I think he knows! I’ve been on a Joaquin obsession binder until last night when I watched ( or tried to watch) I’m Still Here. Safe to say, he needs no protection- but the women around him needed protection no doubt!
Compliment prevent you from growing and being better by making you believe you are already good enough and dont need to get better. Which is something one should always do. I always hated compliments from my school teachers .
@@shadypandas5903 It's you, who interpret his state of mind as "Broken", from this video. This is untrue, to be Broken is to be done, exhausted, unwilling to keep going - which is antomyns og Joaquin. To have lost someone very deer to you of course make scars om your soul, but calling him broken is just straight out wrong 😂😂
@@shadypandas5903 and furthermore he has said on many occasions that he hates beeing interviewed about himself, so do your research before you claim others to be uninformed and actors to be straight out 'broken' ;))
@@kristianpaulsen3994 You sir are an idiot.. what youve just said is that anyone who has been broken gives up on life.... real classy dude. Tell me more nonsense.
@@shadypandas5903 imagine ising "you are an idiot" when having s discussion 😂 again you interpret totslly wrong, I never said IT would be the same as giving Up in life. Well, I dont want to discuss with stupidity, have a good and Broken life ;)
I'm ready for a Keanu Reeves/Joaquin Phoenix "Actors on Actors". K: So... J: *nods slowly* K: J: ...this is great water. K: Yep. And these chairs are just... J: Yeah, man, right? K: J: K: Yeah.
Carol Karimi nah Keanu and River were friends but Keanu and Joaquin would be kinda weird lol, imagine being stuck in a room with your friends younger brother
*Who Tf Deals well with Compliments* I buckle under not knowing what to do - and Compliment them back on “Hey Bro Nice Shoes” “ *Thank You, I Wear Them Myself* “
High neuroticism, low self-esteem. He probably learned at an early age being seen can be dangerous, whether it was being bullied, maybe a less than great home life or something else. It's relatable though and I think that's where his charisma comes from. If you notice in interviews, speeches and what not he seems almost adversarial. He's already playing defense before someone takes a stab at him because he expects it to happen and is afraid of a blow to his self-esteem. He also deflects compliments because they might feel fake to him or undeserved and it really conflicts with his internal image of himself. It's kind of sad in a way despite his success and obvious brilliance in what he does that he still lacks a lot of confidence.
I don't think so. I guess you put too much in it. He just thinks that they are all liars and want to kiss his ass because of whatever reason. Actors are just human beings and they shouldn't feel that they are something special only because they are famous. They don't change the world and he knows that!!!!
No it's not sad. He's just a human being and he knows that and that makes him so special. Joaquin doesn't think that he's better than the waitress around the corner. What's wrong with that? He's down to earth and that makes him so special and different. I like the way he is and I hope he will never change!!!!!
It’s not about confidence. It’s a very linear way of seeing things honestly. It’s one of my pet peeves when people say that because I don’t like compliments. We don’t like compliments because it doesn’t matter, but society expects a “thank you” when we receive one. We don’t feel like you deserve a thank you. There is also of having higher expectations than everyone, which doesn’t make you lack confidence.
The latest version of Joaquin (he's changed) is one of the fewest actors who s deeply sincere and aware of planet's problem. When he received the Oscar for the Joker, he didn't bring his "persona" on stage. He didn't bothered to focus on himself, or to start thanking to all the people who contributed to his prize, etc. Very, very few actors are capable of that. His ego is very quiet or absent...and you can see that by the sparkle in his eyes. I want a buddy like this.
Getting constant praise can be very uncomfortable and annoying for some people. They just want to do what they love without everyone repeating the same BS over and over. I understand why he turns away compliments.
I love how you always have some videos of Joaquin that I’ve never seen before. I just want to thank you for that. You make me love Joaquin even more. 🥰
@@gaumz3393 Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad my videos make your quarantine at least a little bit more entertaining 💕 Thank you for watching and happy upcoming Easter!🥚🐣🐇🌻😊
this is called being humble and a normal good man i also assume he grew up with self confidence issues i know as i have had them as well ppl tell u dude ur awsome u have no reason to be self concious
Absolutely. So often you find that people who deserve praise and love lavished on them, have confidence issues or low self esteem. And people who do nothing in life to benefit others, do nothing but shout about themselves to get as much attention as possible. This MAN is shy, humble, real and beautiful.
Might be wrong but didn’t his brother die in his arms, in front of a nightclub? That would certainly make someone feel like they should have done more and he probably lives with guilt of that. Also pretty sure his parents were cult members and he grew up in their cult and that can fuck you up in so many ways (speaking from experience)
I just think Phoenix is a genuinely humble man, who doesn't let compliments go to his head. He's like a slightly different version of Keanu Reeves! Someone needs to put them together in an interview!
What a babe 😍😍 he doesn’t even realise how good he is. Best actor working today. Followed the 2019/2020 awards season just to see him FINALLY win his long overdue Oscar. 🙌🏻✨
Completely agree - he's wonderful! 💝 And sometimes I think that him not understanding or accepting his greatness, is actually what makes him so unique and real in this showbiz world 🌸
22:51 gets awfully eyes wide shut in feel with the accompanying music bringing light to the hand movements and gestures. Quite refreshing to enjoy, he gives off the feel of a beautiful and strong tiger free not wishing to be caged.. he's uniquely free and human, even when fed up or annoyed. It's great! :)
@Matthew Flores there are many reasons for him to lie such as having a good image which if you are famous it's very useful.. perhaps what reason do you have to call him idiot for stating his opinion? Looks like his act got you good.
Yah there's some people mentioning fake humbleness which I find interesting. I don't blame him for it either. I mean you can realize either you have an ego problem or.. you realize you can't express how well you've done something very well without upsetting people. Could have low self esteem and is afraid of overcompensating his achievements. All that being said I wouldn't doubt any possibility.
@@canobenitez no, i'm going by what i saw in the video. they even tried to tell people bad things about him and he STILL stopped it. because of the morality of it. I'm still not convinced otherwise
Everybody calls me weird for doing that. The problem is my birthday is JAN 11 so everyone is tired of celebrating Thanksgiving Christmas and New Years. So I understand all that.
Amy's crush on Joaquin is pretty obvious. When asked in an interview who she'd take with her to a desert island she picked Joaquin. The man is irresistible and I'm not sure he's aware of it.
So true honestly. He’s a smart guy and he probably knows he’s great, but to be told he’s great and then just agree like yup you’re right would make him look obnoxious and he knows that. To avoid it, it’s like he’s gone too far the other way.
Could be that imposter syndrome. Sometimes you have and idea and you feel like you executed it poorly but to other it’s pretty good so when you get complimented it conflicts with your beliefs and makes you feel like a phony because you could have done better. But yeah it’s also an ego thing like everything else.
Watching Joaquin makes me realize what I really want to be or wish I was - also realizing how very boring and almost detrimental I am in human interaction. It's kind of humbling there was only one person I ever made regard me as Joaquin's peers regard him
God I relate so much to Joaquin. I don't know if he has social anxiety like I do but it sure seems like it. He at least has some sort of low self-esteem which is such a shame cause he's so great. I'm a realist oil painter and I never got into this with the idea that I would have to network so much and sell myself in order to be successful and it never gets easier. You can compliment the work but I cringe so hard when people tell me how gifted I am. I still don't know how to respond and its really nightmarish sometimes.
@@joana9039 Thanks. I do wish more people understood this. Something in me wants to always downplay and consider myself as a human copy machine, a paint by numbers color matching exercise. Showing in galleries with other artists when you are critical of yourself can give you imposter syndrome. When people act like its magic you feel like a liar and a fake as an artist cause when you have worked a long time at something it does not seem like magic to you after breaking it down and because there really are so many other professions that actually make significant change and are unsung heroes. Not to mention growing up being told its not a real job. But you can just see the wheels turning in Joaquins head and pinpoint the exact moments when he lets his own narrative and fears take over, and it makes me wonder if others can see that very fear in me. It then becomes fear of the fear, and when you notice the fear creep in its hard not to let it take hold. You can see him start to get exhausted as the giant crowd just cheers and cheers as he has to maintain composure under a spot light.. he tries to get them to strop cheering which only makes them cheer more.. he turns around so as to not face the crowd only to be met with more rows of faces staring and smiling down at him and you can tell he's thinking "oh no don't show that you're freaked out".. he tries to get them to stop again and again.. he practically clings to the director for comfort like a lost child. I mean this is a nightmare situation for him and growing up as a child actor, and then his brother passing.. he most definitely has ptsd, which I also have, for different reasons obviously. But it gives you tunnel vision and makes it hard to focus on questions cause you sort of have an out of body experience and aren't able to live in the moment. Some people like Letterman and Ellen seem to get a real kick out of it. Even his friends say "I know Joaquin doesn't want me to say this but..." and continue to do it anyway. Definitely hard for me to watch.
JOAQUIN PHOENIX IS UNKNOWINGLY SEXY, ALL OVER BUT EVEN JUST BY THE SOUND OF HIS VOICE !! TRULY 1 OF A KIND ! TALENTED AS HELL, AND A GIFT ON SCREEN TO US ALL !! JUST LOVE HIM
I was a fan since 8mm (1999). Small role but left an imprint that lasts to this day. Also, the thumbnail really looked like Bruce Campbell I just had to watch to confirm.
Same, but it's not that I feel embarrassed or smth like that, I just don't want (and don't like) anyone to say anything positive about me (even if I pass an exam, or if it's my birthday)
I think he just doesn't like lavishing the EGO. And that may be for any reason that none of us could name. For some people, it feels disingenuous and might feel like a personal attack on the true self from which you subconsciously or even fearfully know is the source of your greatness. It's protection from yourself becoming too self conscious, which you know could destroy everything. -Maybe.
Joaquin tries to be an actor only on set, while on the events that require for him to be himself...that's just what he does. Most actors in a way, never stop acting, not even when they're required to be themselves, if there is a camera, they act. That's what makes Joaquin different. Also i just thought about a thing. When Willem Defoe gives Joaquin his trophy, J looked at it in such an indifferent way... Made me think that he probably doesn't even show off his trophies, at his place. He probably has a messy "always-locked-room" (kinda like Monica's in FRIENDS), only it's filled with trophies he doesn't want people to see.
I remember him in Parenthood when I was 12 and when he was a kid. His role stood out in a big way. His name was Leaf Phoenix back then. River was still alive and very popular. H
He is probably resistent about his talent, because he feels like his brother deserved this Legacy.. May he rest in peace. He gotta understand that he would want to see Joaquin successful.
The reason he's unhappy with compliments, is because, he's NOT satisfied with his level of performance yet... ONCE he is satisfied that he has absolutely perfected his craft, then he'll be happy.. so, a man with bar that rises, almost and un-attainable goal.
Maybe you've already seen them, but these are pretty cool ones from "The Master" : 😊1)ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YcTf7CO-hdA.html 2)ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ornzkdo9t1w.html
