Try to look up some old recordings of Johnny Cash. From the 1950s and 1960s. The more you watch, the more apparent it is. Just how much of an amazing actor Joaquin Phoenix really is. Like, Reese Witherspoon does a good role too, but she doesn't become June Carter in any way. It's just a movie character, filling June Carter's role in the storyline. While Joaquin Phoenix actually is Johnny Cash. He got his body language copied down to every detail. It's mindblowing impressive!
Very captivating performance, the only detail Joaquin Phoenix did not do is how Johnny Cash used to strum the guitar way up high on the neck, not sure if he did it when starting out
@@stevejeffrey11there's a lot of footage of him from all over his black and white area of recorded performances where he doesn't do that. Specifically for this song as well
@@Invictus13666 The problem is, when it rains it pours! We get some great movies some years and they have to hamstring each other to find a way to the red carpet, then other years we get trash, not one great acting piece, and they just give that S*** away to the most progressive producer!
@@madlarkin8trash comment, you're just mad they made PSH (as Truman Capote) gay on screen for like 90 seconds and you think thats the only reason he won an Oscar... not for portraying one of the most influential writers creating his Great American Novel
@@staniel9304 I literally just said it was a good year for movies. as in, it was tough competition, as in, the movies it competed against were good, as in, you should go kick cinder block barefoot before you try to paint someone as a bigot for zero reason.
Badass movie, awesome music. Phoenix definitely deserved an Oscar. Love the movie and the music. Specially this song. I have the soundtrack to this movie in my truck. Listen to it every morning on my way to work.
I liked Gladiator too but this movie has great music and one of the few times I saw actors and actresses get country music spot on that weren’t already country singers.
When you talk the greatest actors of all time I never considered Joaquin. But once I was older and didn’t take consideration to family guys comment comparing him to his brother, I realized what this man can do is simply amazing. He and Daniel Day Lewis are at the top of the list. And when you really think about it, they have a lot in common. The one thing I found amazing was that Joaquin did not like any type of praises for his acting. As a matter of fact, his acceptance speech was not spent thanking and congratulating others. No, he used all his time to speak, or try to speak to the better versions of ourselves. As always RIP River!!! Thank God Joaquin didn’t give up acting after that tragedy.
My dad was a massive cash fan .I was brought up with cash , he told me he first heard a record in a truck stop it was called thanks a lot . From then he was hooked . Thanks for great music dad , Miss you every day
I couldn't even begin to Imagine any other actor/actress duo fulfilling this role!!!! They hit the nail on the head!!!! I have loved Reese since one of her 1st movies ever Man on the Moon! She was super young and looks exactly the same
Great Phoenix as Johnny Cash very similar voice to that of Johnny and Reese is superb as June Carter she is lovely as June and she has a beautiful voice she is a great singer. She deserved the Oscar
I've been listening to Johnny Cash my entire life since my childhood in the 70s I was raised by my GRANDPARENTS I was introduced to this music by them and have loved it ever since im 54 now and still loving it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Die Szene in der bar als er sagt dass er früher über sein bruder nach seinem tod immer gesprochen hat und irgendwann dann nicht mehr weil es den leuten aufn sack ging. Der Blick und alles von Phönix hat mich so weggeflaxt
The first rap music. He deserved an Oscar for this and honestly, almost every role he's ever played. Timing is everything. Imagine putting your life into a movie only for it to be released the same year as Titanic. No one knew, nobody knows. It happens. In 2006, Philip Seymour Hoffman won. Heath Ledger was in the running as well for Broke Back Mountain. A massive year for best actor roles, all off the chart performances. He was in good company and didn't win honestly.
@@monalisa619“it’s Mona Lisa” Lol stop lying, you are not Mona Lisa. Lisa Del Giocondo (the real Mona Lisa) was born in 1479 and died in 1542. You sir are an imposter and most certainly not an Italian noblewoman. Phoenix should have won a Oscar for this though.
What an actor and did his own singing and don't know if he played the guitar or not but he doesn't get enough praise for what he does everybody always puts him down I'm talking about walking Phoenix computer spelled it wrong LOL and the actress can't think of her name right now I'm 89 years old that's a good excuse huh she did her own singing also and I don't know if it was true or not how she plays June Carter looking out that curtain but she already couldn't wait to get her claws on him shame.

Whether you're a Johnny Cash or not, you will like this movie and story. The movie was well done and Joaquin Phoenix shouldve won best actor but of course, woke Hollywood wouldnt do that since there were no gay or trans characters incorporated into the storyline
