The average American will spend a third of his or her life working. What is the secret to achieving happiness because of our work and not in spite of it? How can we make a job into a vocation? David Brooks and Arthur Brooks have both studied and written about these questions, and they argue that in all kinds of work the answer is to find meaning. In this conversation, the two thought leaders discuss the elements of meaningful work, the ways to achieve it, and how we can use these insights to improve culture and policy.

Remarkable intellect! Truthful insightful and awakening..it’s sooo refreshing to read and listen to writers who speak from the bowels of their PERSONAL life experiences. Not spouting off “stuff” that’s really rhetoric they never lived..MR Brooks is real touchable and humble.. Blessings!

Glad to hear David Brooks quote Lester DeKoster (14:20). His little book on work is a splendid read.

I was tired of confusing these guys. This video helped me see and memorize the differences. Arthur wrote that horrible Atlantic article "You peak earlier than you think", giving the name "Brooks" a bad name. Here, he seems to misunderstand the applicability of the research that he cites. David is the deeper thinker, and seems to bring three points of evidence to each question, forming a beautiful chord between them.

Making connections provides plenty of spiritual rehabilitation with purpose meaning in life is about sharing and developing a path worth sharing with others. When ideas come together that is deep hearted meditation which is priceless. Turn your suffering into a mission to help others well to become a cheerful giver. - 2 Corinthians 9:7

I think fear of professional failure is very much present in healthcare and the norm, not the exception.

The truth is that every single human being IS needed. The problem is that our standards of judging someone's "usefullness" are corrupted for false values (fame, money, pleasure, power). Our frustration is totally unjustified "in God's eyes". We have what we need, we are who we should be. Period. Be happy. Face "challanges" with the power of the joy of "an already won battle". It is remarkable that Satan means "the accuser". We should stop listening to this "voice". Have faith!
