In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov shares with you a simple chess opening trap for White to get a winning advantage in just 3 moves! Even the former world no.6 player, Grandmaster Predrag Nikolic, got trapped in this variation.
It happens in the Jobava London System (also known as the Accelerated London System) which occurs after the opening moves 1.d4 d5 2.Bf4 Nc6 3.Nc3.

Great presentation! Did I get that right, those traps stream from the Jobava system? Also, could you please one day show us the chess set which stands in your background? It looks like one of those popular wooden chess like the one I got in Moscow. Anyway, thank you again!

Good stuff! I have used plan 'A' here several times, now I can't wait to try the e4 variation, since many opponents play Bf5 against the London.

As an avid chess player that pretty much uses the London opening, it is rare that black plays these openings. I usually see pawn to e6 to open the bishop file which makes this trap dead or knight to a6.

I believe that this variation is known as the Jobava London system. It's definitely worth exploring if you are looking for a solid opening for white even if you can't always spring this juicy trap.

Igor! Pawn to E5 is the end of the attack. After Nd7 and white pushes the Pawn to E6, the Knight can then jump to D5 blocking the Bishop once again whilst being backed up by the other Knight on C6. This does indeed leave the king to be pushed by white’s Pawn, resulting in a bit of a Bong Cloud for black. I have had to deal with this many times at my level of 800. Maybe I am missing something here, Sir. I am always ready to stand corrected 😁✌️

4:20 "In most cases they will". That's not actually very accurate at 1400+. There are two other moves most played: f6 and Be7. However, f6 is a blunder and with Be7, Black's best option at the moment, there is still another nice trap: 6. ... Be7 7. Bxe7 Qxe7 8. e3 Qxe5 9. Qxd5 Qxd5 10. Nxc7+ Kd8 11. Nxd5, making use of the same ideas you presented for other lines. Fascinatingly, the opening is called the Rapport-Jobava System which indicates the same thing might be possible for Black? Very interesting! There are many things to explore here. Thanks!

The problem is that good oppinents quite unlikely fall into these traps and then you might have no plan how to continue. This might be not the way you develop into a good player, if you want something like that

Jobava is just really trappy. You always gotta be thinking of c7 or you can lose in 3 moves. People fall into the trap because 2QP games are so rich in positional fun. Well I short circuit all the positional fun by playing the Indian game. Heheh.

@menace202
@menace202 Год назад
@@walterbrownstone8017 Ah, I meant if they play 3. e4 after the first two moves. If you try to play the Nimzo, you'll get forced into the French by having to play d5. If you go for a King's Indian, you'll get forced into the Pirc by having to play d6. I always do this as a Jobava london player because opponents don't expect going from a d4 defense to an e4 defense
@walterbrownstone8017
@walterbrownstone8017 Год назад
@@menace202 Usually, it seems, if you transpose from e4 to d4 or vice versa it's probably not the best choice. But that's my opinion from playing 5 thousand blitz games. Which isn't really all that much. I still timeout in 20% of the games.
