I just want to say I don’t believe Ephesians 2:8-9 is calling faith a gift. Grace is what’s being referred to as a gift. When Paul says “through faith not by works” it is an aside making it clear how that grace is accessed. Faith has to be a response by you by definition otherwise it’s something else and the word faith is not the correct word and neither is pistos

Kyle, I love the way you can subtly edify guys like Joby & his book. Guys don't do that enough. You aren't just blowing smoke, you tell stories that uplift them or show their character.

So here's my question under the calvinist belief how do you reconcile John 3:16?😊 Because John 3:16 says for whosoever it does not say those that were chosen before Time everyone has the ability to be saved God did not predestined people to go to hell and people to go to heaven but in God's all knowing nature he predestined great things for those that he knew would except the gift but everyone has the ability to accept the gift no one is doomed to hell until they personally reject the holy spirit. The only sin that gets you in hell is the rejection of the holy Spirit

Not a fight brother, just a clarification from the doctrines of grace side. "Whomever believes in Him [the Son]," will have eternal life in the perfect rest and relationship of God. So all may (i.e. have permission to) believe, but none will. We all choose sin, disbelief, and receive the just outcome/payment of death before our salvation/conversion/justification. Therefore only those whom God predestined and elected to receive faith and new life in Him are then able to believe. And now that they are able to believe, they do so; that is they are called and they respond. The rest are dead in sin, and dead folk can't respond, so they stay dead. To Kyle, I get the level of concern and importance you have for the faith and salvation of your boys, but I think Joby is right. You need to stop logic puzzling what you think the outcomes of the doctrine are. Just read the Word and believe what is says. From there, ask the Holy Spirit to give the peace and clarification needed. Your current stance regarding the need to raise the boys in the fear and admonition of the Lord is still works based. You have just put the onus of the work on you instead of the boys. Even in this, you would then have room to boast in being a better father that did some part of the saving (Ephesians 2:9). This is to take from God's glory. Kyle, keep up the good work that the Father has planned for you. I appreciate what you do!
