Jocko you helped motivate me to essentially do nothing but study for my asvab for the last 2 weeks. If I wasn't studying I was listening to you and I got an AFQT of 90 today and can select any jobs I want now! Discipline is freedom.
Got to say extreme ownership book changed me from someone who felt sorry for themselves after 16 spine operations addicted to opiates having given up...to quitting all the drugs & walking 5 mile every morning...& i aint finished yet...my aim at the very minimum is to be running 5 mile every morning 👍🇬🇧...ive no military experience but I have total respect for these guys👍
I've tended to gravitate towards team guys, I don't know why. Warrior spirit? I never served. First Seal I hung out with was Nam era, 3 tours. Gave me my first diving lesson. Second was a good friend, showed me his MP5 and shared some gruesome stories. There were others, all top shelf people. An honor to train and shoot with them. I could listen to you guys all day. I can't express my gratitude for what you guys do, your commitment, and discipline. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I did a book report on "The Things They Carried" in high school during my senior year. It was a surreal book to read, and I loved every minute of it. My grandfather even read it during my report. He was a retired Army E8. That was an amazing time. Great episode, as always!
Love these guys. Love the respect they show to the Marines and Army guys they served with. Love that they love the Carl Gustav gun. As a former Carl G gunner and infantry man who was deployed to Iraq, this really takes me back.
Watching this podcast makes me miss all my Army buddies. I need to call some of them to catch up. We used to sit for hours and have conversations just like this. That’s brotherhood.
Echo isn't military. You can't expect him to butt in and say nonsense he knows nothing about. Heck, he didn't even kbow what an Airburst round was. If they're talking fitness or BJJ, then yeah he can butt in. But other than that he knows it's better for him to shut up on the subject matter.
Thank you Mr. Jocko. Mr. Echo Charles. Mr. Babin. This is great stuff right here. Enter The Magical Muster, sounds like a great book. Hint hint ; ) God Speed
I know this is an old one but what a great episode. Brought back so many memories I'd forgotten about from Op Telic 6 & 7 (2005 & 2006), British Army. I remember those foot patrols lugging round ECM on top of the rest of the gear. Killer in the midday sun. Forgot about the moon dust which was like 30% dryed up excrement from the open sewers, used to breath so much of that stuff in. Guys constantly going down with D&V. Remember diving into those sewers a few times as there was no other cover around me when coming under contact. We were always jealous of some of the vehicles you had. When I was there we had the 'Snatch' landrovers reperposed from Northern Ireland. They couldn't deal with the heat so 40% of the time we had to tow one back in. So funny you guys talking about that smell. I Always remember getting off the plane when we landed back in the UK post tour. You dont realise how used to it you got until that fresh air hits when you exit the plane. I forgot about having to wear the ballistic glasses. We got issued clear, yellow, dark interchangeable ones that always got scratched after a few patrols so you couldn't see sh#t. Ahhh so many more memories flooding back. Almost feels now like it was a different life and it wasn't me. Wish I'd found this podcast sooner. I'm only up to 65!
loved that book and im lovin these podcasts Jock see if you can get a brittish speacial forces operator on one day or maybe an aussie love to see similarities between countries operators
I work overnights and I always feel the temp drop 5-10 degrees right before sunrise, like the sunlight coming is sucking the cold air to it. 100% real feeling.
Nick Irving is one of the guests I would love to see on the podcast. I don`t necessarily agree with all of his political views or everything that he says but that`s okay because he has the right to say whatever he wants and he has more than earned the right to say whatever he wants and I still think he`s a Bad-Ass. Jack Murphy, another former Army Ranger( who served with Irving, I believe), would be great, too. I would love to see Jocko have on guests like Nate Fick- a former recon Marine who wrote the book ''One Bullet Away''( it`s an amazing book, I`ve read it three times) and who was the basis for one of the characters on the HBO TV series Generation Kill based on the book of the same name by Evan Wright, Wes Moore( a former Army Captain who wrote ''The Other Wes Moore and The Work'' and he hosts the show ''Coming Home'' , Randy Couture- the retired MMA Fighter who is also a veteran, Rudy Reyes another former Recon Marine who served with Nate Fick and who is such a character he played himself on Generation Kill, Jim West a Vietnam-era former Green Beret, Mark Divine a former Navy SEAL,Paul Rieckhoff who is former Army and who is head of the Iraq And Afghanistan Veterans Of America( IAVA) and he wrote the book, Chasing Ghosts, Maura Sullivan a former Marine officer( it would be cool to see Jocko have on a female veteran, I don`t think I`ve ever seen a female veteran on the podcast) and Rye Barcott a former Marine who wrote the book, ''It Happened On The Way To War''. The actor and comedian Rob Riggle would make for an entertaining guest( he served in the Marine Corps for 23 years).
Jocko, consider reading The Good War: An Oral History of World War II by Studs Terkel, to all of us and get Lief to read American Dreams: Lost and Found by Studs Terkel. always a great show, thank you
Thank you Jocko, my spouse is LEO. Thank you for the kind words of gratitude. And to all LEO and MILITARY, may the Lords protection embrace you in harms way.
I'd love to hear a show with the wife's of some of y'all. I wanna know what it's like for them when yall are gone. PLUS I'm trying to see the qualifications SEALs look for in a woman, cause I want one!!♡🤣🤣 But Truly,to everyone who served that sees this. Thank You for your Service. Your truly My Heros
Can jocko just read and discuss every war novel ever written lol? Would kill to hear his thoughts on Johnny Got His Gun and All Quiet on the Western Front, etc Especially since he was an English major and obviously loves his books
That fucking...Iraqi...moon dust. Literally got everywhere, into everything, all of your pockets, into your socks. After a year in Tikrit, I even found some inside my *sealed drive*. Ah, memories.
I love Jocko Wilink way of reading novels about warriors and patriots who defended each other and America against Evil killing machines born to be the best defending American dream and way of life
Its hot in Iraq but I remember having to put my mopp boots on over my matterhorn winters while saw gunning in a homemade steel mad max tcup gunners nest in the bed of our 5ton while on the way up to Mosul...my gunner almost got frost bite on his feet one night...it can get pretty frosty in the open desert midnight air
Justin Gosselin , I never would think to put the two together, but since you mentioned it I could totally see the resemblance and the very close voice tone
If there was a way to have you read the entirety of that book back when I needed to do so in high school, I would have actually done the work I needed to do that required I read it.
Man....how they carry water in bottles? The military should look into incorporating the body armor with a camelback style system. Water must have some factor on the armor as well in a good way, like if you put it underneath the armor maybe the compression when the projectile initial strikes would make the hard armor more effective before it absorbs and disperses some of that energy. Then for the mass amount of water needed you could incorporate a system where like you have an upper body suit with sleeves and all that hold water as well that can be accessed from the armor reservoir/hose right. And that water must have a cooling factor as well in the desert? Anyone???
I love this podcast I think you and your buddies are amazing people God bless you God bless the United States God bless the military you keep doing your thing
You can mention then as long as they're out and Dauber mentions every single member of Charlie Platoon by at least nickname/alias. If you could get Tony on the podcast after being unknown, then you can talk about others as long as they're out
My biggest fear is not bringing enough water with me on a patrol because like they said you never know when it could end. I’ve been severely dehydrated before and it is not fun, especially when you have no control over the situation.
