My dad. 50. Gets up at 2 am everyday in bed by 6-7ish. 1 hour of meditation. 2 hour jiu jitsu, weights, conditioning, and a shake for nearly every day every meal. At work an hour 1/2 hour early. Most disciplined and honorable man I know. He sees your podcast as a bible. I use your podcast to prepare me for the military. I thank you Jocko on The behalf of me and my father. (NJ💪) GET SOME
The part about the "young guns" hits me hard. I remember being one of them: twenty-three, fresh out of basic training, invincible and ready to take on the world. I turn forty next month...and I swear all those years passed in the blink of an eye. Time waits for no man.
@@V1CK_ You still have time. Dont waste a single day of it. If you smoke, stop now. If you drink, stop now. If you eat garbage every day, stop now. If you want to be a badass in your 30s and 40s...START NOW. Not next month. Not next week. Not tomorrow. NOW.
59 year old speaking here. People sometimes ask why I keep pushing with biking, swimming, martial arts, and so on. I tell them, whether you workout or do nothing, at 59 you will feel discomfort. You just got to pick which discomfort you will feel. I choose the discomfort from the bike or dojo over the never ending discomfort of being a broken down plop, wasting away on a sofa......which is worse in my estimate.
Jocko this is outstanding! I am 56 and lifting heavy again. Eating cleaner. I started in martial arts in 1980. I have been out for about 12 years. I am getting back in shape to start BJJ. I want to die living not existing. Thanks for making this video!
I haven't seen enough of the videos (mostly listen to the audio on Overcast) to say all-time best, but I think this is one of the all-time best motivational videos on RU-vid...so I still agree with you! Going to share this video in person with people not just send the link out
I just completed 6 weeks recovery after neuro surgery on my spine to repair paralysis. I’ve had to learn how to walk, use my arms and hands again just like a child. I drew from this video to develop the will to get out of bed every morning to perform my rehab. NO COMPLACENCY WHAT SO OVER. The patients on a neuro surgery recovery ward are incredibly tough. Their goal is just to survive and possibly regain some measure of mobility to improve their quality of life. The rehab is extremely painful and mentally exhausting. Thank you Jocko and Echo for providing these videos on discipline and commitment. Its helped me through some dark times after my surgery. I have an uphill road ahead. It’s time to dig in and get to pushing!
If Jocko would be a skinny 65kg/145pounds little man without any combat training. I would still be terrified of him if he would be my enemy... That relentless, unyielding willpower that he expresses just weights on you like a mountain. It's so awe inspiring and motivating. He makes me want to be a better version of myself everyday. I am blessed that I found him on the internet. I love it.
Just come across Jocko in last few month's , This guy is the motivation I needed at 37 to get off my arse and finally do something with my life... From lay about pot head, bouncing from job to job, to Royal Artillery recruit. well on my way into the process now and I wish I'd done it sooner... Thankyou Jocko!!
This covid BS had me out of the gym for almost 8 months. Longest break since starting lifting @15 years old. I'm back baby. Thanks Jocko for the extra kick in that nuts to get going this evening. Much appreciated.
Echo, your dedication to consistently uploading these cinematic excerpts is very much appreciated. This is the content that I, as an avid podcast listener come to RU-vid to see. Jocko, sir. -out
I’m 29 and I was 238 pounds I felt like I had waisted my twenties at 28. Now I’m joining the Airforce and am down to 170 pounds and I workout daily and am in great shape to take on the world. I’m not 50 or 40 yet but my twenties taught me that time truly can fly faster than you think
I hear Jocko in my head every am @0350 when that alarm goes off. Makes my 53yr old azz get outta bed, in my truck, to the gym. 30+lbs lighter, stronger, and more flexible..next up , new career..Capt license, hitting the waters of S FL. Thanks Boss.
I'll be 54 in June, just competed in my 4th jiu jitsu Pan Ams, worst results yet, despite all my injuries I'm back on the mat tonight after work. Nothing will change if I don't keep pushing my limits.
Short and stinging. You won't become younger. Right now I am 42 and having working to recover an almost lost decade on my financials. Working right now to ensure health, capital and peace of mind during my 50s and years to come. Thanks Jocko!
Awesome Jocko, excellent encouragement, thankyou, I to am training harder eating cleaner and sleeping better at 57 years and I can do better, thankyou Jocko,
gnarth d'arkanen yeah that was Gregg Plitt ! It remembers me that I'm not on track ! Thanks you Man , I really need to grow, It was like 3 years ago that I listen to that but I'm still AT the same point !
Thank YOU, MrHaaggen... Of course, now... I'm going to have to go find it and listen to it again... In any case, it's one of "those" kinds of things that we all really should think about from time to time, but we too easily forget in the mix of daily... well... trying so desperately to get shit done. ;o)
Jocko... You are my Inspiration!! As a 41 year old... Dad, worker, business owner, American and Patriot... I salute you to making this Awesome Video... As my Wise old Grandmother always told me, "SEIZE THE DAY!" Time stops for no one...
45 years old I've never been in better shape. I'm in better shape than 90% of the guys in their 20's and 30's I work with. I'm in the gym and on my mountain bike 7 days a week. 1 year ago, I had an awakening. There are days I push myself to the point of being about to puke. And I love every second of it. Two people I owe this transformation to; Jocko and David Goggins. Get off your ass, Brothers! ❤
As a 56 year old working towards his BJJ Black Belt, in a world of young bucks that show me no mercy, this video is exactly what I needed to hear at this time. Thank you for the motivation to push forward and up my game!
I dont give 2 shots what anyone think. This man has and still continues to helps me. My life went to total shit I lost everything my house my fiance and down to the fucking down. Well you know what good. Gives me the chance to get better. This man is saving.my life one day at a time. And when.i had everything I worked for taken from me I went to a dark place. He showed me the light. I will rebuild and I will recalibrate and I will attack.

I swear under this vid I will work my ass off to reach my goals no matter how much obstacles I face. Every secound counts I will stay on the path. Thank you Jocko I'm going back to work Get after it 💪
Just wanted to say thank you. I only discovered Jocko a few months ago through Rogan and it's had a powerful impact on me. I was wounded in Iraq in 2005 and medically retired for PTSD and TBI in 2010 and basically slowly atrophied... Set my alarm this morning and went for a run. Watched this video and when the words "To Those Who Have Fallen" appeared, I just started balling for the first time in 13 years... and it became obvious to me that I've never dealt with it or talked about how it affected me with anyone, not even the guys that were there with me. Thanks for setting me on the path, and keep doing what you're doing.
Danny - thank you. You hold those burdens and memories so that others don’t have to. You’re a hero. Heal yourself - whatever it takes. We need more heroes like you fighting among us. 🔥
I'm 30 now, I wouldn't say I wasted my 20s but I wasted a lot of time on things that did not bear fruit. I think it gets harder as you get older, to change. Habits form deeper and deeper grooves the longer you commit to them. Make them good habits and be consistent, you can always go back to being weak willed and undisciplined and for some people (like me), it might take you years to realize that is exactly what you have done.
Finally proof that you don’t need to swear to convey a inspiring message!! Don’t get me wrong, a well placed F bomb has impact. But not as much as a clean and concise speech like this one. Jocko, sir, thank you for your service
Truly inspiring! Hope we can send you some motivation back with our comments! Keep it up guys! To you Jocko, Echo and Leif! Great book, great work, great podcast! Waiting for the next book! :)
You know why Jocko's podcasts are so powerful? Because he speaks right from his heart, from his guts, from his bones. He doesn't speak just a truth. He IS truth. He IS wha he's talking about. From the outer skin layer to the very deep of his soul. And truth is powerful no matter how painful he might be. Only by truth we can do something with our lives. And only by truth we can do something important in life. Keep going girls and lads. Keep going Jocko. Thank you
Your ability to deal with and welcome pressure and anxiety will be your single most important tool and the key in your life to unlock the door to success.
I love that he directs the message to middle aged people as well. We need to start focusing on middle-aged people too and not just people in their teens and 20's. A lot of people give up after 40 because they think they're old, invisible and it's too late to accomplish anything. It is too late for some things but it's never too late to make your life the best it can be from here. Youth already have tons of resources and encouragement from society, we need to focus more on the middle aged demographic because people still have a lot of potential left.
Played college football and dislocated my shoulder a few time and had surgery twice. After football I started getting lazy and lost the path. Thanks to Jocko and Echo I’ve found my way back. Marine OCS in a few weeks! Let’s get it.
60, seen tragedy after tragedy this past year and caring for my 91 year old father, planning his estate for him this week at his request, planning for when hes gone and its tough. Been fooling myself the last ten years or so and have fallen away. last phase of my life and may not have time and the health to do what you guys are doing. But i'll go out fighting. Really convicts my heart Jocko, thank you.
