Has a Subaru EA-81 with a wizzy cam and shaved block. When I had it, it was direct drive. The new owner fitted a redrive to swing a larger prop with the help of the bloke who built the D9 I was delivering in this video. The re drive made a BIG difference to take off length and climb.
Yes, having done the flying thing for 15+ years, it's time to move on. Selling the Cougar (www.trademe.co.nz/motors/aircraft/aircraft/auction-1274990491.htm) to get a camper van. At least these aren't weather dependent :-) Still keep the licence though, and if the urge to fly happens, there is the club Rans to use. Happy flying!
I very much doubt it! The heart of the D9 and such is the one piece spar. Splice repairs can be done, but don't know if this is possible at the centre section. Head over to the Jodel forum and put your question to the gurus there.
