Jodi Benson talks about auditioning and getting the part of Ariel in 'The Little Mermaid' back in the late 80's. I apologize for the dark video...this was part of an intimate setting of about three dozen people in a small theater.

Crazy how life happens and one "failed" opportunity leads to a door opening at just the right time! Parts of the original cast recording demos of Smile are on the album Howard Sings Ashman, and Jodi sings that amazing (and crazy coincidental) song called Disneyland so beautifully! Definitely listen to it and try NOT to hear Ariel sing it- near impossible! Howard Ashman's impact and influence were really something special. He is so missed.

Also the fact that part of your world is really the only song Ariel sings in the movie (aside from her "ahh-ahh-ahh" bits). Had that been cut who'd know how incredible a voice Jodi has?!?!
