The fact that Ellen clearly hadn't watched Doctor Foster was embarrassing. Well, either she watched it and ignorantly thought that Jodie's character's accent was American (which it clearly wasn't), or she didn't watch it at all. Either way, what she said was insulting.

Agreed. Everyone is blaming the audience and usually Ellen is usually the bridge between the guest and the audience with her humor. I think thats especially true because I dont think Americans are that well versed on Jodie Comer. I know her because i watched the White Princess, otherwise I wouldnt know her and therefore would not have been interested...

I honestly think she does stuff like this as a power play. She does it all the time and there is no excuse. Watch her interview with Dakota Johnson, at one point Dakota flips the script and calls Ellen out, from then Ellen seems to be trying (and failing) to regain power.

There's not such a thing as "British" or "American" humor, idiots. That's like saying "there's British water and American water". It's pretty much the same thing no matter where you're from. The only difference is slang, vocabulary and accents.

There is certainly a bland kind of humour of transcend borders and America excels at these because they are a nation of immigrants. But there is a more hard hitting humour that can be deeply embedded in language and culture.

I think she genuinely has watched the show though, because she’s brought it up a few times saying she enjoyed it outwith talking about Jodie Comer, so I don’t think here bringing it up here was some byproduct of research. Perhaps her memory is just a little hazy on it.

Ellen only goes all out for her "celebrity friends" say it was Ryan Gosling or JLo it would have been different. I think Ellen is tired she needs to go do something else like Oprah did.

It is an accent that is linked to so much culture and history - I’d much rather listen to a scouse accent than a southern accent - southern accents can be incredibly irritating

Was not interested in her but I always saw her name on twitter bec of the last duel, I thought maybe shes good as they say, so I watched it but got bored and didnt finish it.... incidentally I was watching the spanish princess and got curious about their backstory and I found out about white princess and was surprised that it stared jodie,so I downloaded and watched it, I was amazed by her on the 1st episode and by the end, I think I was becoming drawn to her bec shes a great actress ahhaha...now I almost finished all of her filmography , im a big fan of her now,and I used to be saoirse's , I love those who are talented.

I can understand Geordie too (I'm Canadian) but that would be funny if she was full on Geordie on the Ellen show. It's Scottish is what I have the hardest time understanding

They can't understand her. Same thing happens to me when I try speaking to Americans. 90% are trying their best to understand what I'm saying... even if I dumb my accent down a lot.

By the end of my trip, i just started putting on a fake American accent when ordering food, so that i received my correct order!

@@hsd287 accent is different yes, but the way Jodie is speaking she has slowed down her speech and this is a very weak version of her accent, Ellen comes across as rude and uninterested in her guest though, I feel that’s where the problem is.
