Here's my demo video of the JodyJazz JET alto saxophone mouthpiece. I've been using the JET on alto, tenor, and bari sax for years now and highly recommend them.
Check it out here: amzn.to/37zRkbd
My Review: It has a high-energy, powerful sound - but it's surprisingly versatile, as I demonstrate with a few different styles. Very crisp attacks, incredibly easy altissimo, big bottom end, and full dynamic range. I've played lots of other bright mouthpieces, but none that have as much of a full-bodied, rich core sound as the JET.
Recorded on a Zoom Q3HD with a Cannonball Gerald Albright signature series alto sax, Rico Jazz 2 med reed, Harrison ligature. I recommend a Model 6 or 7 tip opening for most saxophonists. This one is a 9 and will be too open for most players.
Thanks for watching!

This got me excited just listening to it. You'd almost mistake it for a tenor sax. Love those soft low notes too.

My Theo wanne Durga 3 sounds like a tenor with the low notes. Very rich, deep, and textured sound. I think it may have fatter sound than the Jet.

What size t-shirt do you use?
@instrumentattic
@instrumentattic 10 лет назад
Thanks for asking. The short answer is: it depends. I like the shirts both Rico and Vandoren make, but I find Rico sizes run a just bit large. I buy a case of 50, try them all on, pick the 2 or 3 best fitting ones, then tailor the collars and sleeves to my liking. Back when I was developing my image, I liked how shirts looked on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson so I bought the exact t-shirt he wore. For some reason it didn't make me look like him.

And how does it compare to metal mouthpieces like a dukoff as far as brightness? I want something Extremely bright but not too expensive. I've been wanting this piece for over a year now.

I bought my JET a couple months ago, a size 7. It gives me everything I want, sound, tone, projection, the whole deal with a pack of chips... BUT, there has been this constant annoyance that maybe you could help me with. I've tried many different reeds and horns, and there is consistently a 'chirping' with all of them around the middle range of my alto when I tongue. Sometimes it floats around the full range of the horn, but the middle range gives me the most problems... more so around middle D. Any recommendations?

Hi, awesome test man, and what a sound ! Fantastic ! I have troubles while playing low B flat with my alto jet7 mouthpiece (and up to lo C). When I attack the notes it just goes an octave higher, I think it is probably more of an embouchure/tonguing problem... Any advice to work on this problem ?

What's your take on reed warping with large tip openings..... Does the reed die quickly? Let me know because I finally saved up enough to buy this piece
@instrumentattic
@instrumentattic 10 лет назад
Reeds will warp no matter what, especially in a dry climate. Harder reeds on a smaller tip mouthpiece warp a little bit less for me, but they still warp ... so if I were you, I'd worry more about getting the tip opening that sounds best for you.

The SuperJet is extreme power and projection. The Jet for me is more versatile with nice body and richness, and is my favorite mouthpiece to play in most settings.

At 1:46, regarding the high note that you hit, you are getting quite a smooth, linear sound. It sounds like you are controlling the tone there to keep it smooth though I could be wrong. I am curious if you can get it to shatter, grind, break a bit up that high? (At 1:53 and 1:59 you were able to do it at a lower pitches). I'm curious if this mouthpiece will allow that easily, or does it more or less resist that? :) This mouthpiece has such good tonal qualities across the range (gorgeous at 2:00-2:06 in the low range! I'm interested in getting either the Jet or DV NY.
@instrumentattic
@instrumentattic 9 лет назад
Good questions. This mouthpiece keeps proving itself to be very versatile - I can keep the tone smooth & clear, or use growls & get split tones pretty much anywhere throughout the range.

@McGlovin
@McGlovin 7 лет назад
try checking out a meyer mouthpiece. there's lots of used ones and they're good for jazz and really easy to get a good sound on. Also V16 by Vandoren is really good. BUT if you want the jody sound, don't hesitate -- this one would last you through your college years into professional playing. you'll want probably a 6 or 6* as far as the tip opening goes, even maybe a 7-7* -- this will let you use 2.5 reeds - 3.5 pretty well. if you're having difficulty, just drop down the strength of the reed. You'll find it!

Kyle Schroeder My philosophy is to first find the mouthpiece I like best, then get a reed size I'm comfortable with. This mouthpiece sounded better to me in the larger tip openings (might be different for others), but if it was the 5 or 6 opening I'd be playing a 3 or 3.5 reed.
