I have ALWAYS wondered what this meant and thought that like most things this could be traced back to the History a k a Old Testament! Thank you because we “gentles” certainly preach teach or quote out of context!
Yeah, I heard it also said that it also has to do with Ezekiel 36:25-27...removing the heart of stone and the Lord giving a heart of flesh.since man came from the ground..that God was writting his laws on the heart, instead of on tablets of stone like he did on Mount Sinai with Moses. A better covenant...that it was the 2nd time God wrote with his finger.
This is nothing but speculation. We really can't know what Jesus wrote. Some have speculated that he was writing the sames of the accusers who were guilty of the same sin as the woman who was taken in adultery.
I agree, he was writing the names in the sand because that was the traditional way of putting to death these people. Those times they would write the names of the accusers, witnesses and the doer. So they could take account right then and there who was all involved. And they ran because they knew what he was doing and they fled. But a lot of people don’t talk about the man who also committed adultery with that woman. Why didn’t he get taken to Jesus like the woman? Who was the man that was caught doing the adultery with her? How did he get away? Has me thinking that either one of or those men had committed adultery with her and on petty terms turned her in and also to kill 2 birds with one stone with Jesus and praying on him to fall and make a bad decision. But they left because they knew what they had did truly and Jesus wrote in the sand their names….
This following passage can not be applied to what Jesus wrote. Jeremiah 17::13 Yahweh, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you shall be disappointed. Those who depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken Yahweh, the spring of living waters. You are focusing on the ground rather them the fact that Jesus is writing, I you look at the act of writing you will find that Jesus only writes one other time which is Revelation 19?19 on the thigh of the rider of the white horse. Also if Jesus did write a name on the ground that day it would have been stated in scripture. But as there is a question mark on what he wrote he must have wrote in code and thumb prints are the mark of God. 17:1 The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, Note that the rider of the white horse has also the iron rod which connects to the pen of iron which is a foreshadowing of he has the writing on his thigh what Jesus wrote on the ground.
Too many assumptions in this explanation. I believe Jesus wrote the Ten Commandments in the sand, here’s why: In exodus God wrote with his FINGER the Ten Commandments in stone(forever). Jesus is the only one to keep the commandments. Jesus wrote the commandments in the sand convicting all, that is why all the accusers left. I also think it’s important that he wrote in sand because his writing would be wash away in the rain exactly like our sins are washed away in the blood of Jesus Messiah.
NO - Yeshua really OPPOSED the ORTHODOX Jews (Pharisees)...study thyself to be approved! Rabbis wrote sinners' names in the sand in times/places of accusation/judgment!
