My favourite blues song of all time! Written by Stax legend Booker T. Jones and blues singer William Bell, "Born Under a Bad Sign" has been made famous by Albert King and in time recorded by Cream, Paul Butterfield, Robben Ford, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Buddy Guy & Koko Taylor, Etta James among many, many others. Here it is... Joe's version playing "Lucy", Albert's guitar that is a "legend" in its own right, possibly one of the most famous guitars on this planet. By the way, "Lucy" it is not a Gibson as you may think but a 1972 "Dan Erlewine custom flying V". Pump up the volume as much as you can and enjoy!
JB was on fire for this song and the entire concert for that matter!!! When you have Anton Fig, Reese Wynans, and Keith Fletcher backin' you up, you're doing something right!!!
That was one classy and soulful version of one of my favorite songs. The addition of three beautiful ladies with angel like voices topped it off perfectly.
One of the many great things about Joe and his band is they understand tempo and pocket. They don't rush things, and they stay solidly in the pocket. They do it almost better than anybody. Makes for terrific punchy live performances.
How cool is Joe??? Total guitar nerd and one of the greatest blues guitarist's of all time!!! If not for guitar of the day and Norms I'd never have found Joe!!!
I do not see how anyone could do a better cover of this fine work by Albert King. And ,,, if you notice he is playing on Albert's guitar. She still gets to sing ! WoW
I was at this concert and when he played this song there was actually a full moon. If you’re not familiar with Greek theater, it is an outside venue. It was truly an experience
Wow that must have been quite the MOJO MAN ! I love it when all the ambiance and the energies combine they create a unique experience . Loved the Greek man back in the day
If I'm not wrong, the backing vocalist on the far right of the screen is Mahalia Barnes! She had an audition in the Voice Australia -2012 while singing Tina turner “Proud Mary”...She Rocks
Yes, that sure is Mahalia (Jimmy's girl) - and next to her is another Australian, Jade MacRae - both top shelf and probably under-apprecxiated in australia. Good to see them find a "home" with an act as classy as joe.
I got to see both Muddy and BB in Montreal in the '70s with their full bands. Unforgettable. Joe brings that spirit and really delivers. And I love how every player and singer gets to show their stuff. Great for fans, great for musicians too.
If you ever saw Albert King in a small club setting you witnessed a master bluesman. No one can compare to him today or ever. Great to see Joe paying respect to the great blues players.
Wow - what a tribute to Albert King! Joe uses a Flying V, he plays it in C#, the same key as Albert (Albert played it in E position but he detuned his guitar by 3 semitones =C#), and Joe starts off using Albert's licks. What a subtle tribute to a blues master!
On the drums is Anton Fig, who for many years held down the drum chair on The David Letterman Show. And on keyboards is Reese Wynans... he was in a little band you might remember... Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. Joe has some great licks but not the sharp attack that was unique to Albert King's playing. Still Joee he loves and keeps the blues alive!
Nicely done, thank you. *sorry for my English. One of my fave records is the Big Blues (1962) album from Albert King. Wonderful brightly mid-punch sound & lovely bitey "single coils vibe" P.A.F. humbuckers sound that not overload bassy from his vintage Gibson Flying V Pure beauty
Look at the fucking passion this man has when he’s fucking playing u can’t fake this passion blood sweat and tears is what I see when I see joe playing Albert would be fucking proud long live the blues
Once again I will say this we are witnessing one of the best if not the best all around guitar player to ever play true professional no gimmicks no bullshit just straight hard work dedication and the love of the blues if u have not seen this man play live u need to ASAP 👑👑👑👑👑👑
May 20th, 2017 at 8PM. Munich Olympiahalle...last show of the European tour and my first time seeing him live.
