Ok good people, listen up...I just saw JB at Red Rocks this August...ehhh...my wife and I flew to the show and the venue was great. But the show was not all that [ this was my 2nd time seeing him live ]. First of all, Anton Fig, his regular drummer, was not there, and he only had one backup singer...not the usual 3 which make the vocals that much better...trust me he needs them...in a nutshell it was a disappointing performance. He hardly played any blues songs, but did play lots of self gratifying solos, and then to top it all off, a horrible encore. Reese Wynan's organ playing is just that, organ playing, nothing new under the sun. In my opinion, the band should switch the organ parts to the electric piano instead. The long drawn out organ playing sucks. The call and response thing was like watching paint dry, I mean what's the point really, I kept waiting for the Jack to jump out of the box... "Ok I play this and then you play that and it will be real cool" sorry Joe, but it really sucked. Boring. Lastly, he only played couple of songs that's he's known for and for what people came to hear and enjoy. But when he did managed to play Sinner and Saints you could hardly make out what the song was! Yes, JB is good guitar player, sometimes brilliant. But he is not giving what people want to see and hear. It feels like his run is losing speed. What else can he do? People want good songs, not long, out dated organ playing. Please don't respond unless you know what you're talking about.
I've never seen JB live so am not really qualified to comment, except that for some strange reason, I've never had him on my list of Bluesmen to get tickets to see. Go figure? I've seen SRV, Clapton. Winter etc and I'm really excited to have tickets to see Christone Kingsfish Ingram in London next January. Vive la difference I suppose. The only answer is for me to see JB, then I'll know.
I saw JB last night in Charleston, S.C. and it was amazing. The drummer was back and he had 2 back up singers. There was really only one song where they did the play and response thing, but it seemed to work well. Honestly, it’s one of the best concerts I’ve ever been too and I wouldn’t mine seeing him again.
