Commentator......... "I don't see Calzaghe beating Hopkins on flair." Has he ever seen Joe Calzaghe fight FFS???? Calzaghe was a brilliant operator and was that good that even after a career of over 40 top quality pro fights under his belt, his face doesn't look like he's ever been a boxer.
@@GORILLABREATH1 well yes, we did give the world back its independence mate. Never mess with the redcoats. Although the Americans did have their boston tea party after a damn good fight with us. We are born to fight here mate.
Was great seeing Oscar lose to a 'black' boy when he said black fighters couldn't take it to the body... then got stopped with a body shot 😂. Anyway.. Hopkins had a better career and went down as a better fighter than Calslappy & Oscar. Just look at any top 50-100 P4P list.
I love the way the commentators try and down play everything Calzaghe does and big up Hopkins. The most biased boxing commentary I've heard, even worse than English commentators with Bruno. Hilarious.
@@ThankGodImBlack370 Yes, it was a very tough fight. Calzaghe later admitted it was his most grueling fight. He was exhausted early because he put so much effort into stopping Eubank early after the knockdown. You can see him reaching deep for the last half of the fight. Eubank wasn't easy for anyone, he was physically very strong.
Too bad american white boys can't beat anybody in boxing besides themselves😅 y'all have to root for none American boxers. Even in MMA y'all get y'all asses beat the fk up😅
Typical double standard. The problem is that no one not considered “white” even flinched with that comment. And for the record, plenty of white people could beat him in a real fight.
Hopkins had one of the ugliest styles of all time. He was a spoiler, a dirty fighter, and a terrible loser. It pained me to have to watch him back when he was active.
Best at dodging opponents & slapping ffs Hopkins was over 43 had chance to fight him when he was in his 30’s like Mayweather with Pac-Man teams Cherry pick when to fight, which is why Ali will always be the greatest imho never ever ducked anybody!
@@kennethcharles1386 🙄🤫 Calzage whipped his ass it was a SD & it was Hopkins who put JC on his backside and at 7 years younger Calzage couldn’t do the same shocking take yr Welsh blinkers off 🙄😏🤣
@@waynewoodward674 Joe Calzaghe had he been an American fighter he would have gotten more, coverage and probably bigger paydays, but he was so humble even with all his wealth he lives a modest life a beautiful wife a four or five kids, it doesn't get any better then that. He would just laugh at people who talked $#!+....and then beat the hell out of them.🤣🤣🤣
He should have been covered much better then he was but considering who he was Joe loved the sport of boxing and was content with the European market, he got a lot further in life with his family always in front of him knowing when the time came, he was that man to beat. Joe and Floyd and Andra ward retired from boxing, boxing didn't retire them. So many boxers fall sick and live devastating lives as a result of all trauma to head and body. It's nice to see men like Joe Calzaghe and Floyd Mayweather because their the ones who walked away fully intact. Watching Roy Jones still boxing at like 57 years old tells you how #u@ked up boxing is there's no way the people who run boxing should let men over 50 to continue to box but they do George Foreman the man's in his 70s and still trying to make a comeback and he's one of the wealthiest boxers he made a fortune coming back as the oldest boxer, but he took an @$$ whipping like never before and they just kept him in boxing because these promoters dont give a crap about those fighter's they make all the money......look at the upcoming fight Garcia and Davis should be able to get 75 million a piece that fight is going to make at least 500 million when its all over these guys will be lucky to walk away with 3 million dollars this is the biggest fight since Pacquiao and Mayweather and they made more money in one fight then most boxers do in their entire career. Well anyway Floyd Mayweather did. Toping all boxers
Calzaghe beat so many racists it’s silly….. Fury would destroyed ali as fury compared to ali is like comparing ali to mayweather jr & yes mayweather jr is faster & more illusive than ali but would he beat ali being smaller & lighter ????? The same for fury vs ali… Easy win for fury to be honest…
yeah no sound that sucked and I don't know how in the hell either one of then are undefeated that was Pathetic like either one of them could throw a punch if you want to call that a punch embarassment to PRO BOXING worse than 2 6 Yr old girls slapping each other. If calzag he knew how to fight , Hell Hopkins Wuz moving straight to his lefthand the whole fight instead of away from ris left any other lef ty / Southpaw like myself t retired Pro Boxer Hopkins would have been knocked out | St Round GUARANTEED
@@gatorspbjoes busted all his hands fingers to bits over the years, thats why he looks like a slapper, but theres still power in those slaps, his mits are a right 2&8 even now
@@BeautifulGameVibes And I think they are wrong, some great great fighters named there but Calzaghe was just pure boxing - undefeated champions all ways have to be considered the in the top 5 easily! I don't like Fllyod but he is undefeated champion and must be there also.
Hopkins could and would not keep his head up, it was his dirty tactics, by his corner. They knew that Calzaghe was far too strong for him, who then became one of the greatest fighters of ALL time.
Hopkins all he does is grab on and hold and the ref is a tossser for not telling him to stop it.. i'd give him one warning and if he does it again your disqualified..
I couldn't agree more. Its supposed to be a boxing match and not a grappling contest. Can you imagine how much moaning and whining there would be off Hopkins If the tables were turned? I don't have much respect for Hopkins, he seems like a complete xxshole. As for Cortez, well he stopped Hatton from doing any work on the inside when he fought Mayweather. Another fix.
@@jedwing id argue he actually fought better with age until his final 2-3 bouts. And Hopkins age clearly wasn't an issue, as he won titles following that loss. Stop being a sore loser, Joe whooped BHop. Whether u like that fact or not.
Lampley biased as hell, Luckily Steward was there to put him right. Hopkins was a dirty fighter, well known for headbutting and theatrics. In the other hand full respect to Calzaghe for being the fighter he was.
"I was enjoying myself so I wanted to take it to 12 rounds" said no boxer in history ever, apart from Joe Calzaghe. Genius. Welsh (Celtic) + Italian (Roman) = a working class champion gladiator with a real attitude!
On the 'Italian' side, he is of Sardinian heritage, he has relatives in Sassari in an area called Latte Dolce. I met some of them in a bar watching his old fights eight years ago. Regarding Sardinia, it is about as Italian as Wales is English.
Can I ask a dumb question, one that's not quite as dumb as these comments "What does the genotype of Joe Calzaghe have to do with his career as a pugelist"?
I remember watching that fight how in the world that they come up with the split decision or there's something wrong that one judge Hopkins lost that fight very easily
What I saw is Hopkins holding on all night like Mayweather Floyd Jr and clinching so he wouldn't get hit by Joe " s quick punches! Hopkins a good fighter just never seen hold on so much like this fight!! ⭕‼️⭕‼️
He couldn’t match calzaghes punch output, this was a bad matchup at This stage of Bernard’s career. I don’t see any way Bernard could’ve won a decision.
@@rolandtomassi3486 He didn't say that. He's just pointing out that Stewart is wrong and indeed Calzaghe put Eubank on his ass on the first round and also forced him to the ground briefly in the 10th round.
One thing I have to say........ I think Freddie Roach is an amazing trainer and an amazing bloke, especially when you take into account that he's got Parkinsons. His record of, what is it... 27 or 28 World Champions is an unbelievable achievement, he has my utmost respect and utmost gratitude for what he's done in my 2nd favourite sport.
Freddie is a tactical genius, when you lose something due to a disability you earn twice in another sense, so imo what Freddie lost in Parkinson's just went and doubled another sense, similar to autism, some autism kids just BECAUSE of autism don't mean that they don't pick up and master another thing which all focus goes on...THEIR IS PLENTY OF EVIDENCE TO PROVE THIS TWO..REMEMBER THE GUY WHO TRAVELED THE WORLD LOOKING FOR SUPERHUMAN PEOPLE..AND EVERYONE HE WENT TO HE TOOK THEM AWAY FROM EVERYTHING THEY KNEW AND ITS JUST ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE TO SEE..ID POINT TO MANNY PACQUIAO TO PROVE EVERYTHING HE SUPERCEDIDETE WITH BOXING KNOWLEDGE AND HIS CAPABILITIES IN GETTING HIS FIGHTER'S TO WIN 9 TIMES OUT OF TEN...EVEN JUST SPEAKING TO HIM AND WATCH HIM WORK FOR A WEEK YOU WOULD LEAVE WITH MORE KNOWLEDGE OF BOXING ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL...TEDDY ATLAS IS NOT THE SAME BUT LISTENING TO HIS REACTION TO A FIGHT IS INCREDIBLE...TWO DIFFERENT BUT VERY CLEVER BOXING COACHES WITH BOOKS AND BOOKS OF KNOWLEDGE IF THEY DECIDED TO DO IT ...I THINK FREDDIE SHOULD START BECAUSE HE IS DIFFERENT ALTOGETHER....
I've watched& listened to many an fight with Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman babbling away, sounding knowledgeable, but leaving the audience usually bewildered with their biased analysis! But thankfully Emanuel Stewart was alongside to add some thoughtful insight!..
You have to love the Americans blindness to their unwarranted chokehold over boxing. All big belts are run by the US, the big money is in the US, the most famous events are in the US. Not being recognized as a non-American boxer in the US only means that an American boxer is holding those belts and the American fans/press/organizations are terrified this non-American boxer might come in and take all the belts. That's why they ignore exciting non-American boxers for as long as they possibly can and try to paint them as newcomers when they finally get their chance, even though they often have amazing resumes.
Yeah, has to be some sort of early April Fools joke. Lennox beat: Vitali Klitchko Evander Holyfield Mike Tyson David Tua Frank Bruno Tony Tucker Ray Mercer Shannon Briggs Tommy Morrison Michael Grant. Calzaghe doesn't even have a third of this resume + struggled against hopkins & robin reid - 2 fights that were split decisions, with no rematch. This is partly why Joe doesn't get the same flowers as other fighters from this era. Like a Tyson, Oscar, Hopkins, Roy, Klitschko or Lewis.
B-Hop used a lot of spoiling tactics. Hard to look good against a guy like that. Both legends though. If you're a patient boxing fan, there was a lot of great moments 😎
I remember this fight and watching it back, more specifically the rhetoric from the American pundits before the fight and the commentators during the fight: the Yanks never faced the reality and the reality was that Joe Calzaghe was a world class fighter. Even Hopkins himself said he just saw Calzaghe as a white boy. If he'd done his homework he'd have worked out that Calzaghe was a real threat. In the first round here, one of the commentators remembered that Calzaghe had put Chris Eubank down "....but Hopkins ain't Eubank!!" he quipped. No..... dickhead. You're right. Bernard Hopkins ain't Chris Eubank. Eubank was far and away a better, harder fighter than Hopkins ever was.... but I guess that didn't fit in with the "USA rules the frikkin' world!" mentality. So, even with a fighter like Calzaghe going over to the states with his record and with his skill for all to see..... the Yanks STILL refused to accept just how good Calzaghe was..... and that's gonna filter down to the fighters. Hopkins had clearly never done a minute of homework on Calzaghe and so you get what happenned...... Joe Calzaghe gave ignorant, arrogant America yet ANOTHER boxing lesson.
Hopkins won that fight for sure. The knock down, the clean punches, controlling the pace of the fight. It was a Hopkins fight Eubank is not remotely in the same league as Hopkins. Don't be silly
Calzaghe is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Very underrated by the American press and even the UK press. Loved to watch Joe and glad he retired undefeated.
Calzaghe was a clever skillful fighter with very quick hands, but he lacked elite power. He overwhelmed opponent with massive punch output. I liked Joe but his career was essentially home based living many to wonder just how good he really was. In this Hopkins fight he was a sensation! And of course he was Welsh (😮) and that's good enough for me 😂. 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲.
Dumb take. Meanwhile, Joe ducked Glen Johnson three times and was playing hide and seek with Sven Ottke in Europe. And he also ducked the likes of James Toney, Michael Nunn and of course Roy Jones in his prime.
@@miyagido Of course he wouldnt. Joe Calzaghe was a nobody. Waited years to come out from his cave when Jones and Hopkins are already old. Where was he when Tarver, Johnson, Toney, Nunn, etc are scrapping for LHW throne? Oh right, he was busy beating taxi drivers in Wales
The national anthems at the beginning were so unbearably cringe 🤢 lol. Anyway, remember this fight well, and so happy Calzaghe beat Hopkins. Dirtiest fighter I've seen and no respect at all.
