I bought my first Joe Candullo 78rpm this past weekend! I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the sides are (Susie’s “Feller’/ I’ve Got the Girl, on Harmony) and am now sorry that I didn’t buy the others that were there. Hopefully they’ll still be there when I go back.
Great band, not sure I can say the same about his vocal abilities! Not sure i’ve heard that take of “Black Bottom”, much stiffer than others I’ve heard.
I have the Plaza (Banner) recording of Candullo's "Black Bottom," and judging by the boxy quality of the sound, the one listed above might be a Gennett pressing.
According to Brian Rust Mike Mosiello played trumpet on the band's eraliest sides. Around June 1926 he was replaced, possibly by Leo McConville and/or Tommy Gott.
