Many yrs ago Joe played my little town’s annual festival..I was ~14 at the time and had been playing guitar for just a cpl years. My dad chairs the festival so I was helping them get set up n basically just walking around offering a hand to anyone that looked like they could use one. I was helping Joe’s guys unload and I hadn’t noticed but Mr. Diffie was there in the background just killing time and he overheard me ask one of them a single question about a guitar of his. He politely chimed in and answered my question and I said thank you, sir. When we were done he yelled at me as I walked away “hey, stick around a minute after the show”. I figured he wanted me to help them load up quickly and get the hell out of our tiny very rural town. Instead we sat behind the tiny amphitheater thing and talked about music for nearly 2.5 hrs. He was impressed by how much I knew about both country and classic rock music and I explained that as a child of divorce I listened to different music in different places and also I knew the very old country bc my grandpa, who was my hero, loved that stuff. As we were winding down and goodbye was approaching I said something along the lines of “It was great talking to ya, Mr Diffie. I appreciate your time and I appreciate your music”. We shook hands and he said “why don’t you see if that will fit in your truck” as he pointed to an acoustic guitar of his that was left out for him to noodle on, obviously trying to give it to me. I said no sir I couldn’t take your guitar. Joe Diffie said to me sorta chuckling “it’s ok, I’ve got one or two others” and as I again said no sir I couldn’t he spoke over the top of me and said “son, these aren’t arguments I lose” and that was the last thing he said to me and then he turned and walked away after I picked it up and almost tearfully thanked him. Yeah I know he was a “Pickup Man” but more importantly he was just a good, good man. He will be so dearly missed.
Now he's up there with John Lennon and George Harrison and, of course, all the country stars who passed before him. A wonderful, versatile singer, at home with a heartbreak ballad or an upbeat story-song like this and "John Deere Green." RIP, Joe!
What an absolute legend Joe Diffie was. I’m a huge country music fan from the UK and this makes me sad to see this. You don’t get much better than 90s country music. RIP!
Got that right - good country music - keep listening and I still listen to lots of British music for an old guy like me - 66 years from Canada- stay healthy.😊
@@MarkSmithhhh 90s country music songs have the perfect balance. Every instrument can be heard clearly occupying its own area of the song. As a musician, it’s just one of many reasons as to why I love it. Simple songs, but made very well!
I always wanted to see this music video but when this song was popular there was no on demand streaming service. Sad that I hadn’t thought of this song in over 20 years. Rip thanks for this song it’s beautiful
Man Joe, why did the corona take you.... this Georgia country boy cant believe it. I can still here ya playing while me and my brother sat by the pond fishing surrounded by cows back in the early 90s.
I was lucky enough to see Joe in concert at the height of his success. He put on a great show. It was fun and full of energy like a rock concert, and I don't think anyone sat at all the whole time there. After singing 3rd Rock from the Sun, Joe tossed me a guitar pick that I still treasure to this day. Man he was great and I know we fans sure miss him.
Not sure why, but his death really brought this virus crap to me...strong. rest up Mr John Deere Green. Many a college night and cheap beer spent listening to Mr. Diffie. RIP
Jonathan Kent already on lockdown and I have always washed my hands. And it’s not like I didn’t see the reality of people dying from this all over the world. But losing Joe Diffie to it connects to me in a lot more personal way than random unknown people in Italy, China or New York
Miss ol Joe! No one can Really replace the people and Talent Country has had, cant really replace George Strait, Alan Jackson, Willie, Cash, Hank Sr and Jr, Joe.. I'm just so thankful most of their music can be found here on RU-vid

Man the world changed forever when the good lord called you home. Things just lost there shine. Thanks Joe! You gave my childhood a true meaning almost a purpose or better yet a direction. You were my 1st ever cd and I knew every lyric to all of them. Sitting here today listening and it's like I can go all the way back to 1994 and smell the fresh cut grass at mom and dads. The sun is setting with that awesome orange glow. The dog is running around the yard getting excited as it cools off just a bit. My dad throws a football to me yelling catch as he takes a swig of Miller light standing in the barn with grass all over him sweating like hell. Then my little brother runs up and tries to intercept it as mom yells, "it's time to come in supper is ready," from the kitchen through that old metal screen in the window, and in the background on that old radio that always played country tunes in the background is john deere green. Man so many really fond memories to so many of your songs throught my 33 years of life, and I'm sure I'll still make a new one or two. My hope is maybe my son or daughter will even make one or two of there own, bc best believe they are learning about the pickup man. RIP Joe forever the greatest even with that awful mullet. Country music misses you more than ever we need guys like you again before it's to late and all we have left are groups like FGL or Darius Rucker and that's what country forever becomes. Thanks again joe for making my childhood "one worth remembering." Bye joe a true country legend.
I'm so saddened by his death today. 😭He was fine and posting on Facebook Friday and dead Sunday. So many good memories listening to his music in the 90s rural midwest. RIP to a country legend 🙏

Among Joe Diffie's best! Fantastic song and video! Sounds as good today as it did 24 years ago! Man I really miss 90's country!! You know back in the day when you knew every song and artist that came on the radio. Nowadays I don't know what is going on!

I love all kinds of music: rock pop, folk, country, rap, etc. but I am the kind of person who, if a song I don't like comes on the radio, I station surf until I find something I like. I swear in the first half of the 90s when I was in my 20s, I could tune in to a country station and just let it ride for hours. Every single track was a good one, it didn't matter who the artist or band was, I loved it all. There was so much fantastic country music coming out of that time period I can't even believe it.
Great touch with the very Beatley "yeah yeah yeah"s at the end, matching the close harmony chord they end with on "She Loves You". Definitely some homage & respect from JD towards those titans of rock n roll. Diffie does show a great r 'n' r sense in many of his songs.
time 0:45 ...""They got a love bigger than the Beatles... wild and Free Like a Rolling Stone.. they got a love that take them higher than the Eagles.. ain't life such a sweet sweet song"" ....rest in peace Joe..we love you Like a Rolling Stone
The star of this video, is none other than my HS A/V production teacher, Barclay Randall. He is a joy to work with, and to learn from. Thankful for getting to learn from him, and pursuing my interest in film/video production.
Tears shed ! Hearts pour out !!! smiles he brought will never fade ever and thankful for all the joy ever brought through his music many prays go out to his family and all the families during this rough time in the world !!!!!! Stay safe all !!!!!
i have read some of the comments and arguments posted about this video and most people just plain miss the point. the song is about two people in love and are happy with there lives, you don't have to be rich to be happy .
Rip Joe, you are one of the reasons I started listening to country music it doesn't get any better than 90s country, I can't believe you're gone rest easy I'll keep cranking your tunes
