Joe Dolce was actually an American born in Painesville, Ohio who came to Australia quite a few years before recording this song. He would later to go on to co-write part of the music for the soundtrack to the movie "The Terminator". This was a song many Aussies loved to hate but we still sung along to it anyway.
Cherry ripes are awesome ..we have a very large Greek and Italian comnunitys especially in Melbourne .from memory has the third largest Greek population ..and the largest Greek community in a city outside of Greece ..
Australia has been a land of immigrants going way back. After WW2, many Italians came to Australia and no matter how long many of them lived here, they never lost their accents lol. Probably because they continued talking Italian at home. Thanks so much for reacting to this. I remember, when I was a child growing up in the 70's/80's, this was a hit with all the kids especially. I burst out laughing when you broke out the cherry ripe, well done 🤣
A cute comedy song. If you want an Australian comedy song try THE VASECTOMY SONG by John Williamson. Who knew having a vasectomy could cause confusion?
this song always reminds me the movie 'Their a Weird Mob' a great fun Australian movie. At one point this was one of Australia's most successful singles
Nice fun song from the 80s I still remember…😄. My parents immigrated from Italy in the 1950s, my mother now in her 80s still has a strong Italian accent.
In 1985 I worked at Cadbury ( Schweppes) as it was known back 5hen. On the cheeryripe line.. lots of missing ingredients now.. 17 per second they were doing.
Yep, we Aussies and Kiwis are siblings. We squabble with each other but if anyone else has a go at either of us, it’s an attack on our family and we will fight as one. We love our brothers over the ditch.
As with snacks Australia vs New Zealand, it comes down to where you grew up. New Zealand's milk and water are slightly different compared to Australia and hence the taste of chocolate is slightly different. Australia's minimum standard for Milk Choc is 45% Cocoa and a 55% mix of Cane sugar/Milk powder. Dark Chocolate is 75% Cocoa and 25% cane sugar. The American chocolate industry uses chocolate liquor which is the ground or melted state of the nib of the cacao bean, containing roughly equal parts cocoa butter and solids. BTW if you read the ingredients on the snacks you will 99% percent of the time NEVER see corn syrup.
SLICE OF HEAVEN by Dave Dobbin is a fantastic NZ song. It was the theme for a cartoon movie. Split Enz & Crowded House are NZ led bands. Usually Crowded House have some Aussie band members but Split Enz was definitely NZ led with brothers Tim & Neil Finn
OMG you are learning the old school stuff. When you got time watch the movie called They're a weird mob. It's weird but shows how and what they did coming off the boat to Australia and survive from places like Italy. You need to have patience and watch because it is brilliant ( to me lol ) and others . It's an old movie. Glad you patience.
That was fun, Mike...but to something more serious from Bruce Smeaton, an unsung Australian composer. You might not want to react because it has no visuals, but this main theme to the 1984 movie, Iceman, is a true masterpiece. I'm not the only one. Check out its reviews. This is one you must simply close your eyes, and listen to, while turning up the volume to 11! We'll still see your reaction, without interruption. Your eyelids will do. It is truly sublime and haunting, I promise you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nh0WsmNoAlo.html
Cherry Ripes are my favourite chocolate bars too!! If you want more novelty songs - you might wanna try a New Zealand one... by Monte Video and the Cassettes, the song is called Shoop Shoop Diddy Wop (it's quite silly but rather catchy) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-myQ3eKcE-Fo.html
I'm sorry You're wrong about Him. I just Googled Him, He's originally from an Italian Decent Family in Ohio. He Immigranted to Australia.Unlike America We don't Label People based on there heritage for example African American. We're all Just Aussies, not matter where You're from.
Wow did that bring back some memories. I was in my early 20's when this song came out. It was a very popular song. There was a morning radio host in Adelaide, South Australia (Barry Ion) who voiced a character named "Peter Plus". The character sand a number of songs back in that era "Day trip to Victor" and "Bite your bum" are two songs I remember. Bite your bum was a parody of "Shuddup you face", and Day Trip to Victor was sort of poking fun at a town on the coast called Victor Harbour. Victor Harbour was a place that everyone went to for basically a Sunday drive. I can remember as a kid going to Victor Harbour many times. Granite Island was/is the main attraction as it had/has a colony of Fairy Penguin's. It also has a jetty/bridge from the mainland to the island where Clydesdale Horses pull a smallish carriage of people to and fro. The old jetty/bridge has recently been replaced with with a new one as the old is unsafe.
You might not know this but after WWII we had a influx of migrants from mainly Italy, Greece and areas around. I lived next to two houses full of italian parents that came out in the 1950's. One was from northern Italy and the other from the south. So hearing a Greek or an Italian, especially in that time, was not unusual. Since the 1970's there have been many Asians and muslims from the Middle East that have come out too. Not many Canadians or US or Sth American citizens. Of course the largest influx has always been English.
Just something else to teach you about terminology seeing how you are interested in everything. In Australia we don't use the word 'candy' for what we call 'lollies'. Just to confuse you, we don't call chocolate bars 'lollies'. We differentiate between non chocolate and chocolate. We do know the term 'candy' and we do have a certain type of lolly we call Candy Canes (I think from memory) but the term 'candy' is definitely just a American term. In fact the term 'lolly' is an informal British word. I just noticed in America you use the term for something else. It means money there!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! If you like novelty songs, The Scared Weird Little Guys are great - check this one out - I'm sure it will make you keen to visit Australia as soon as possible! 😁 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NlfxOU3zTiA.html
I love Cherry Ripe, cricket, Formula 1, and Pavlova, and hate Vegemite, football, Weet-bix, and Tim Tams, and prefer Cocoa to Milo. We Australians are a diverse bunch, and anyone who says we all like things like Vegemite is crazy.
This was SO popular when it came out. SO funny and entertaining. Cherry Ripe are my favorites. I really don't know what kind of sweets they have in New Zealand, Maybe similar to us in Australia. Enjoy your cherry ripes. 🇦🇺😍🦘🐨🇦🇺🦘🇦🇺
Oh goodness, memories! I think the song was top of the Aussie charts for months, and it was played to death on the radio. But it's so endearing, and so easy to sing along, that I don't remember getting sick of it. Cherry Ripes are divisive - people seem to either love them or hate them: dark chocolate and cherries aren't everyone's cup of tea. I'm in the love-them camp.
I think back in those days there were quite a few novelty songs...hence 'Sadie' lol I would love to introduce Stan Walker from New Zealand to you...lived for a while here in Australia but now is back in NZ after nearly losing his life with a rare stomach disease...which meant he had to have his stomach removed...but he has the most fantastic voice....loved to see you react to him Mike. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LJ_6CcCUsT0.html
