Fighters: Joe Frazier (USA, light trunks) vs Oscar Bonavena (Argentina, dark trunks) Date: September 21, 1966 Location: Madison Square Garden, New York Category: Heavyweight, 10 rounds Outcome: Frazier wins by split decision
Not sure Joe should have gotten this decision he definitely lost that last round and was knocked down twice. I'm sure he was advised not to fight Ringo again.
Ringo won this fight. Even a blind man could see that. He florred Joe twice and staggered him repeatedly. I'm not sure why Frazier was given this decision unless the boxing CEO's wanted a Frazier / Ali match due to media market revenues. Frazier never really matched up well against any slugger. Yank D. his manager knew this. At this stage of the game Frazier ducked fighting Liston and of course Frazier never fought Earnie Shavers (who hit harder than God) Ron Lyle, or Ken Norton. We all know what happened when Frazier stepped into the ring against Foreman..
