Did exchange in Belgium on the south end and everybody tried to get me to eat "filet americain" ALL THE TIME. I always turned it down (I was 18 and dumb). Now I would try it in a heartbeat. Not the horse meat, though. That I just can't do.

It's essentially a variation on steak tartare. Beef tends to be safe(ish) to eat raw. Pork and chicken are the ones to really go out of your way to avoid.
