@@andyzhang7890 I agree. I put Lucas up there with Zimmern and Bourdain. Lucas like them, loves food and the cultural effects food has on their communities.
@@justingoboom oh yes, i absolutely love learning about the culture and history behind food, you can really tell they are completely in love with food by the light in their eyes and the way they talk-
As someone grown up in Sichuan, I have to say that this is indeed the best sweet water noodle shop I've tried in Chengdu. Kudos to Lucas for finding this place.
Very lucky! Chinese have got such an incredible culinary food culture! I can’t wait to visit China 🇨🇳! I was wondering if you can tell me the name of/ address of this restaurant? Thank you ☺️
@@sabrinastraveladventures4263张老二凉粉 that's the name, put it in map. You can also take a screenshot when he mentioned the name and showed the storefront and ask Google/ai to give you the answer
Very glad to see english food videos that actually explore authentic Chinese food in China (especially with foods that are also not quite well known outside of China, or even their local places)
Omg thank you for bringing Chengdu’s amazing Sweet Water Noodles into this sphere! They are such an underrated gem of Chengdu eats and as a native myself but living overseas for most of my life I crave these all the time and lament not being able to find these or replicate them as authentically as possible (lack of access to the oil and the type of soy sauce). Anyone going to Chengdu must try these! 🤤
I love the way Chef Lucas describes food. It’s not just the ingredients and how they’re delicious but the purpose of each ingredient and context of history. Nobody does this better!
Those are the thickest noodles I've ever seen. A specialized shop that only serves one dish but has managed to become so successful, you know their food is the real deal. Also i love Chef Lucas, more Chef lucas BA!
Was in Chengdu last year and gorged on all the different snacks they had to offer. Genuinely I think my sis and I ate 10 bowls of just these noodles. Thanks for keeping it real Lucas, as always!
Lucas’s presentation is approachable, fun, and professional - always immediately click on videos he’s in!! He has the ability to make audiences appreciate and understand the art and passion behind a seemingly simple dish
I LOVE this host and the places he visits, but can you put a Maps link, or at least name of the restaurant in the comments of the video? I would love to visit there some day.
洞子口张老二凉粉 is the name of the restaurant mentioned in the vid. I don't live in chengdu myself so you guys can just copy paste this on Google maps (use hongkong sim card and you can access the apps outside of China. Most travel agencies sell them) or, ig, baidu maps app when you're in China
Great video! I could watch Lucas explain the technique over and over again. Makes you feel like you're there. All that's missing is a bowl of actual noodles :P
as a fellow non-native english speaker i too have struggled with the name "rapeseed oil" but i recently learned you can also call it canola oil, so that is now my go to haha
I love how there's a slight pause after MSG so uncle roger can slide in an approval. I was born in Chengdu and I remember getting these every week when I was young and every time I have these it just hits me with nostalgia
9:36 "but there is also water ... and a form of soy sauce". You can tell Lucas's mouth is watering 😂. Lucas is such an excellent ambassador for Chinese food, particularly Sichuan food here, bringing so much professionalism, attention to detail, and passion!!! 💯👍
Everybody goes to Bangkok or Tokyo to eat, you should be going to Chengdu. Trevor James was trying to tell you like 7 years ago, but maybe Lucas will succeed.
fyi tian mian jiang means sweet flour sauce since its starched to thicken , not necessarily noodle sauce as this sauce is traditionally used in many dishes
They never post the address or name but the place is called 张老二 (Zhang Lao Er), there’s a few different branches in Chengdu. The one Lucas is at is: Name: 洞子口张老二凉粉(文殊院街店) Address: 青羊区-文殊院街39号 Name: Dongzi Kouzhang Lao'er Liangfen Address: No. 39, Wenshuyuan Street, Qingyang District
