The Chinese all learn about the Opium wars and call the era "the century of humiliation". Yet many British people no little if nothing about it.

@@jhunt5578 Opium poppies grew all south east Asia .It was legal at the time in the UK and the rest of the empire and I've not read any accounts of it being a huge problem with it in the UK and other places. What was it about the economic or social conditions that chinese people lived under that made it so very attractive to them? I grew up with Opium poppies growing wild all around central Victoria , they were apparently planted by Chinese miners and herbalists, nobody really takes any notice of them here

Kudos to Joe to want to face the truth of what his ancestor did. People need to do more reflection of their impact in other countries and its consequences.

Conspiracy nonsense. It’s not the Jews as idiots always like to allude to. It was the British East India Company (EIC) and the British government once the EIC was nationalised and multinational corporations like Jardine Matheson and big banks like HSBC. It’s capitalism and has been since it began. Conspiracy crap gives capitalism a free pass, as it just blames some group (Big banks, the Jews etc.) instead of the whole rotten system.

Ps it’s not the soldiers fault , they were shot back then for not fighting.

No. Its the soldier's fault. You should choose to be killed than to be a mass murderer. There is literally no excuse for mass murdering Chinese people who did want British opium.
