Joe Pepitone passed away this March 13 2023 , he was 82 .... R.I.P. Joe Pepitone 🌟 🙏

Was there in old Yankee stadium, my first game ever. Little League bus trip up from the Jersy Shore. Sat out in left center between Tresh and Mickey. I still recall that same lineup and tell people that and include them the playing Senators and Hondo. Two things that stand out the most, Mickey so close you could touch him, and how enormous Frank Howard was. Then going to Shea for the first time with Spahn on the mound. The Mets had just come into existence. Finished off at Connie Mack Stadium. To get to your seats, the bus parked outside the right field wall and you walked through the wall, across the warning track while they were taking batting practice. A light hitting, nobody catcher was behind the plate named Bob Eucker caught that day. All great memories.

Really good player. Great glove, a sweet swing, and hit for power.

Whatever year the All Star Game was in Baltimore..1993? I was staying at the Omni where many former baseball stars were staying for the All Star Fanfest that MLB holds each year. I was in the hotel pool talking with Joe Pepitone for about fifteen minutes. He spoke with me about his life, his career...like I was a friend. He didn't need to, but he was fabulous. What a memory. I'll never forget that. A few other stars in the hotel put their hand up to keep you away, but Joe was charming.

Stickball was awesome. Remember playing it from sunrise to sunset during summer vacations in New York city.

One day in the late 60s we were playing stickball at PS205 in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, and Joe grabbed a stick and took a few at bats. It was a big thrill for us. I threw my right elbow out pitching stickball throwing that infamous 'Spaldeen'.

They just don't make em like Peppy anymore. One story I found hilarious was when teammate Clete Boyer (Always the prankster) filled Peppy's hair dryer with talcum powder. I'd have given anything to have seen that.

Pepitone #25 was my favorite Yankee when I was a kid watching WPIX channel 11 from NY. This guy was rockstar, much like the way I was impacted by Joe Namath. I played first base in Little League and wore 25 in his honor. Bobby Murcer and Thurman Munson were top Yankee favorites of mine too. I wish I could have met any of these guys, but at least I did have the honor of meeting Goose Gossage in Colorado in the mid 1990's. He signed his book for me when I saw him at a golf course. Really nice guy and talked Yankee memories with me for a while. We both got emotional when talking about Thurman and the first time Goose heard about the plane crash.

Remember Joe when he was with Cubs, hanging at Rush St., having a few beers and going 2-4 the next day.

What a bomb of a trade when Joe was sent to Houston after winning a GG in 1969 for a washed up .210 type hitter Curt Blefary & it left a gaping hole in RF for over 4 years as well.

Saw the Indians and Yankees in August of '63. Gary Bell hit Joe twice and after going to first base he and Fred Whitfield got into it and both benches emptied and that is the only glimpse I got of Mantle as he did not play that night.

Sorry Yankee Fans, #25 loved playing for the Cubs the best, He played in Japan. This is my very First Celeb. that I met parking his van at the El Caribe country club in Brooklyn , N.Y. I was 17, He owned a chain of hair cutters called My Place. I never got the book yet. He played Baseball with the best of the very best. Joe, You made us proud.

I remember in the late 60s is the first guy that had long hair hang out the back of his hat.

I remember Mickey Mantle's last game in Detroit. They told him that Denny McClain was going to throw the ball right down the middle for him. Mantle did not believe them and he did not swing. They again told Mantle the next pitch was going to be right in there. It was and Mantle hit it for a home run. When Mantle finished rounding the bases, he turned towards McClain and tipped his hat. The next batter up was Pepitone. Pepitone motioned to McClain that he wanted the same treatment as Mickey. McClain, on the next pitch, threw a fast ball that missed Pepitone's head by inches.

Joe was a solid player, underrated

...my late brother, Tim's, claim to fame (he talked about it until he died)...was the day he rode with dad's service call guy, Jack, to service Joe's TV in Mediterranean Towers in Fort Lee, NJ...Tim was so proud of actually being in Joe's apartment he yakked about for months...this hadda be back in the early 60s when Tim was 9 or 10...

I remember him well. He had serious pop in his bat!

Joe Pep running across this was a real surprise. I met Joe and became his friend in 1984. Was always a big fan of his when he played with the Yankees and meeting him was a treat for me, and becoming his friend was one of the highlights of my life. I met him at his cellar disco he opened in Kingston NY below the Villa Roma restaurant.. I had on a red satin baseball jacket and he was behind the bar an yelled over at me, "Hey pal, I had a jacket like that in the 60's", and he laughed and I gave him the peace sign and he then said have a drink on me! I was with my girl friend at the time and we sat at the bar for hours and the joint was mobbed but he and I hit it off because we both came from a NYC Italian family and neighborhood so we had a lot in common. The three of us closed the place that night. We remained friends, played in a softball league together in Saugerties NY. I once I loaned him my company car for a trip he made to New Jersey because his was a beater. He said he was going to Jersey to meet with Mickey and Whitey to form a softball league. I felt bad so I loaned him a caddy I was driving at the time. He told me he would be back in two days. Joe showed up 4 days later. LOL..I asked him how the meeting with the Mick and Whitey turned out and he said "Who?" I laughed like hell and we went and had a drink. That;s Joe Pep. Loved that guy, and we remained friends until I moved to Florida to semi retire and we lost touch. I have many more Joe Pep stories of our friendship bit it would take another book. RIP Joe many many people you befriended will never forget you, and neither will just your casual fans or acquaintances. Big ideas, bigger heart and big impact on Yankee fans and people in general.
