Thanks for uploading. Mickey Mantle was truly my boyhood hero. I recall being in tears in 1964 when the Yankees lost to the Cards for the beginning of the lean years and also when MIckey died. The first time were tears of sorrow of a young boy, the second were mixed - sadness over the death, and tears of joy when listening to Bobby Richardson's eulogy as he told the story of Mickey accepting Christ - I was so glad to know that the "Mick" is in heaven!!!! My dad and uncles are baby boomers and I can see why many boys during that era just idolized and loved this man. He just has that innocent boyish charm along with that great baseball prowess, not to mentioned baseball was the most popular sport at that time also helped. I guess I can understand that Mantle represented an era. Great upload!
I saw Mick play at the old stadium many times. He was, for over a decade, the best player who ever played. Mick’s Triple Crown season was the best single season anyone EVER had: .363, 52 HRs, 125 RBI, playing a premium position in that enormous center field. Mike Trout, as great as he is, is no MM. Many players lasted longer, but he was, for that decade, the best ever. Better than Joe D, better than Babe, better than Gehrig. He personified America at her peak. RIP, USA; you are no longer worthy of MM.
If you ever see the Old Timers Day clip of Mickey homering off of Whitey (1973), I was there. Whitey grooved it in so that Mickey could smash it...and that he did. The ovation was long and deafening. God Bless the Mick.
The old videotape was in bad shape. But the audio was fine and it was watchable. He gave some excellent food for thought. I’m going to AA right now. 60 days sober. Thanks for posting.
My boy hood idol met Mickey countless time at autograph shows picture taken with him still mad at my parents for not naming me Mickey still love and miss and talk about him to this day
The truth is Mickey drank himself to death even though the best docs in the business were telling him to stop. Mickey was so good on the team, but so bad at preserving himself.
As with most alcoholics, he never felt he had any worth. That is huge. He was also quite shy socially, so he must have thought a drink or 12 to loosen himself up in social situations wasn't a bad thing. Unfortunately, it was. Regardless, I still love The Mick.

My sports hero too , can't help , but like Mickey Mantle. In football , Dick Butkus or Joe Namath. Allen Iverson , Arnold Palmer and Secretariat are top sports heros.
After all those injuries he never did any rehab, other than getting into a whirpool, he drank and caroused as if there was no tomorrow, sensing that his life would be as short as his father's and his father's brother's, who worked in the mines and contracted the same type of cancer that also killed actor Steve McQueen, who was exposed to asbestos in his youth. Casey Stengel didn't put Mickey in his personal All Star Team because he expected so much from him, given his extraordinary potential and turn out to be, in Casey's opinion, a personal dissapointment. Mickey was still a superb ballplayer but he should have reached even bigger achievements and records.
@johnstone2010.. first thing is to convert them to dvd. Search online for a panasonic vhs to dvd recorder...they're a bit pricey but work great!!! Target carries the newest version... Then I sat for hours/days/weeks/months:) transfering the parts I wanted to keep to dvd..
