The Black Keys is a rock band formed in Akron, Ohio, in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. Their latest album "Let's Rock" is available now everywhere.
As someone who has never physically seen these guys, it took me a good hour to realize the drummer has been talking the whole time while the lead singer is just chainsmoking joints in the background.
Haha agreed man, listen to their music now and then. From the same area they grew up but just never had really gotten into it deep so I never seen what they looked like and had no idea he was the drummer for about the same amount of time as you 😂

Yeah I've always liked them in the general sense, but I listened to Dan's appearance on here and did a deep dive on their music, fell in love with their music, and now this podcast has just elevated it further.

Haha, true. But smoking is really not hard at all to stay away from, once you've quit for a while. It's not remotely the same as talking to a sober alcoholic about how great booze is or similar.

Peter Pepper look man I’m not trying to say nicotine addiction is worse than alc, crack, heroin or any of that crazy shit. I’m just saying I think you’re kinda downplaying how hard it can be to quit. I’m not a data analyst or a researcher who conducts trials on this, but I don’t think it’s fair to come to the conclusion that your first link did by only looking at 8 trials where 1 of which they disregarded completely because it didn’t match with the numbers they wanted. I don’t think looking at a handful of people seeing how they handle it can accurately represent the millions of people that are dealing with it. I go off what I see in my everyday life. My dads been a smoker since he was a teen and has been on and off trying to quit for 20+ years. Most of my friends are dealing with this stuff too. If it was that easy to quit I don’t think smoking would be one of the leading causes for death worldwide. Addiction effects everyone differently, it may be easy to break for some and near impossible for others. (Sorry for the text wall btw lol)

I only know a few of their songs, but I always find Joe's interviews make the interviewee sound interesting and this guy/these guys was/were really great.
Patrick is funny but Joe was so infatuated with him from the outset, that he missed the funniest moment of the pod, when Dan suggested Jose Canseco found Bigfoot.

I'm originally from Akron, Ohio area and I remember my dad taking me to a backyard barbecue type thing once. The Black Keys were playing and it's been so wild to watch all their success since then. I've seen them every time they've come back to Cleveland. This interview reminded me of just why and how much I love these Northeast Ohio boys.
Great interview. I’m an Akron boy who got suckered into going to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, too. After I graduated, their job placement department called me with a job opportunity....as a clown at a kid’s birthday party. I was like, “How is this related to art?” They said, “You’d be face painting and making balloon animals.” I shit you not. I did eventually end up as a creative director in NYC, so there’s that. I’d love to know which instructor told Pat to get out of the school, though I have an idea. Anyway, the Black Keys have done Akron proud. seem like good guys.

They declined an offer from a mayo company early in their career because they didn't want their fans to think that had sold out. They now say that it was a stupid mistake on their part and nowadays their criteria for accepting an offer is "depends on how many Zero's are at the end of the check" lol
I used to see them when they came to Australia playing in small bars and clubs many years ago before they were popular , just loved their music, I was probably the guy with his arms folded :)
Speaking of that, Tomorrow will be my first experience and it can be directly traced to Joe talking about that started me researching it. Been a long time coming. It’s very rare something lives up to the hype. I hope DMT is one of em. Wish me luck !
I don't listen to a lot of music. never really listened to black keys either. But if these guys had a podcast I don't think I would miss an episode. Joe is right. they are so entertaining to listen to.
Their new album and El Camino were basically pop songs with guitar riffs. Turn Blue was more personal and honest, but I didn't really like it. Brothers and everything before is good (Thickfreakness, The Big Come Up, Rubber Factory, Magic Potion, Attack and Release, and Brothers, in order of goodness), but Chulahoma EP really stands out. I don't think they play any of those songs live unfortunately.
I know Joe always tells people to start a podcast. But that Pat guy definitely could have a solid one. Just a naturally charismatic dude who's funny to listen to.

I also love how Patrick acknowledged that in the 90s Modest Mouse was one of the best indie rock bands ever. Not like post Moon and Antartica Modest Mouse isn’t good, but the 90s records are amasaaaaazzzzinnngggg
I think good news and we where dead Is great too, it's is a bit of a grower. Strangers to ourselves was abit disappointing. The black keys last two have been dissapointing to me I think they started slipping with some of the songs on El Camino. Two of my favorite bands, hopefully they have at least one more good album in them. Maybe its just getting old and running out of ideas and not trying anything new, though the last modest mouse album was probably there only one that didnt have a distinctive sound to it as they seem to find a way to reinvent each album while still sounding like modest mouse. . I still have hope.. Went on a bit of a 90s electronica binge and rediscovered Underworld, and their Rift series they are doing now is some of there best work late in there career.

Dan Fontaine If there’s one person who could leave RU-vid for either another platform or a proprietary multimedia platform, it’s Joe. I would follow him to whatever platform to continue watching his podcasts.
