Josh Homme is a singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and actor. He is the founder and primary songwriter of the rock band Queens of the Stone Age.
Yep, Josh was pretty funny, maybe Joe didn't like being outshined. Never really got the whole Joe the comedian thing. I like Joe, he gives no fucks and is a good bloke, but not uniquely funny that I get him as a comedian.
at least he had Yung J-me The Easily Amused to giggle softly along with him. Cant laugh too hard or Joe's feeling's get hurt and he gets all jealous of Jaime's attn to their guest!
Here is something you should drop to your knees for and worship...but your too stupid to understand youselves.... a joke for the deaf...that is for you.
Steven71179 I love Joe as a person and podcaster and commentator, but I just can’t get behind his comedy even though I like all the other comics in his circle.
Yeah exactly. Who would've thought Joe the "comedian" would miss all the punchlines? Some of the Gary stuff was reasonably funny. Funny enough for a small chuckle at least I would have thought.
yeah Josh kept doing Joe's patented "Look to Jaime for confirmation of the quality of my jokes" move. Jaime gets paid to chuckle quietly. all the googling is incidental to the chuckles.
I know! I think Joe maybe thought Josh was tryin to be the funny guy in front of him, so he blew off every pun, which I thought were hilarious. Josh has dad jokes for days!
Boofer T. Washington as opposed to all the other hacky things he and his peers find humouress? It’s not that he doesn’t think they’re funny they fly over his head, he doesn’t know a joke took place
After finishing 12 years of college, where I majored in psychological profiling, I can determine that 2 out of the 4 posts above this one were authored by a potential serial killer....unfortunately, if I name the psycho's I will be breaking TOS and my acct will be ghosted. You'll just have to figure it out yourselves. G00d luck!
I watched that bit like ten times trying to see if Joe got it & let it go, didn't think it was the best dad joke, or just missed it completely... I hope the last one, because that's a beautiful dad joke that needs appreciation. JH is god... Or Elvis reincarnated, can't decide.
That is just a play on words from Animal Planet, the Story of him getting stung is real and much more funny than Porpoises. The guy likes jokes and plays some bad ass music.
I agree. Everyone is roasting him in the comments, but who knows what was going on with him that day. Maybe an old friend past away and he really wasn't in the mood to laugh at puns.
Edited: Josh Homme, in two hours, slayed weeks worth of conversation. In improv. Joe had nothing. Comedy, spirituality, the cosmos, history, creativity, struggle, and triumph. One of the best guests on JRE ever.
What I always notice about Joe is that he's great at having a conversation that's about facts, things he read and has a direct answer for. But when it comes to a spiritual or less tangible conversation he seems like he just grasping at straws for input. For a man whose taken the psychedelics he has it always amazes me he never seems like a natural in the conversation unless it's about specifically explaining the drug. The areas that Josh went to here with his thoughts are right on my level.
I agree and it's quite interesting because at the same time I think Josh gets a little too out there with his cryptic way of speech. Like hey asshole, get to the point so we can appreciate what sentiment you're trying to deliver. Can't help but love both of em though.
Lyricists play with words all the time, even when we're not trying. It can b really annoying when u want to shut it off but also grateful for it when u want to create.
Mate honestly though. I drive a car like a grandad, constantly afraid of the damage I could do to others. I get on a bike and I can't help myself. Just braaaaap n disapear ;)
Joe needs to lock himself to his couch and watch this interview from start to finish. And then take a long hard look at himself and address his inability to roll with Josh's hiiiiiilariously unassuming deadpan humour. Weak showing this time around mate. Homme for the win!!!
Why do you people look at conversation as a compwtition? Fucking lame. Yall always try to be witty and funny and there is nothing worse than not funny people trying to be funny... Joe is more resrved. More interested in trying for depth. Whereas josh is all aboit superficiality skipping the surface, not getting too personally involved. I think sweet and sour juxtaposed is fucking golden. Joe takes a minute to get in to it but by the twenty minute mark they are rolling in it
I think Joe is just annoyed by Homme. I'm a HUGE fan of both, but I feel their chemistry is off and Rogan at more than one point looks annoyed or irritated by him. I was really bummed out by this episode because I figured the two of them together would be enlightening. Instead it's like listening to two men's manifestos combined in one.
People look at a conversation as a competition because ultimately a conversation such as this is open ended so that topics can arise naturally and when they arise they are talked down and built up and then passed on or the conversation grows off of it. Conversation can be an art form and when two or more people get together and converse they put on their dancing shoes and and try to tell it as it is. The other person will either agree or disagree. Nobody knows what the fuck existence really is or what is the most important thing to do in the mean time as time rushes on, so the person who can spin a story or some truth and make others believers, that person is the winner because he wasted your time a little less and hopefully after listening, that person would have made the purpose of life a little more clear
Porpoise 1 had him rolling for a while which I understand cuz it's a pun I've used for yrs & it still cracks me up, only I go much deeper with it by saying porpii' ... dual porpoise.
I know that a lot of comics think of puns as a lower form of comedy. They usually just don’t find them funny. I think that’s really all there is to it. Imagine being a comedian where you only hang out with the funniest joke crafters in the world. People who use words that sound like other words in a sentence that otherwise wouldn’t be funny just wouldn’t make you laugh like the rest of the stuff you hear. To the average person, a pun might be humorous. But, to a comedy store comic, there’s just no way it gets a laugh.
Angry Pent bruh Josh’s riffs WERE Kyuss. Him and Garcia’s vocals. Brant is an amazing musician, but who remembers Kyuss for the drumming? Brant definitely might’ve contributed a lot more behind the scenes, so it’s unfair of me to not give him credit. However, Josh and Garcia were the main stage, leaning more towards Josh. Also Brant and Garcia were hardly trying to “reform” Kyuss. They already knew that Josh wouldn’t join them in their mission, and Brant didn’t like Reeder as a person. Kyuss wasn’t coming back. To my speculation, they wanted to capitalize on the buzz Kyuss had created by being such a monumental but short act. Josh knew that Kyuss wasn’t going to be able to be brought back without it being tainted. He probably didn’t want that as part of their legacy. Now since Josh owned the rights to the Kyuss name, and Garcia/Brant continued to use the name to tour, he striked them. If you read up on it, apparently Josh and Reeder (other member of the copyright claim) had already tried to reason with Kyuss Lives! to no avail. I’m sorry man but I’ve never been able to see how Josh is the huge asshole in this story as I’ve seen so many Kyuss fans claim before. I love Kyuss and QOTSA equally, and I wish things didn’t have to turn sour between those members.
@Angry Pent lame ass Queens songs? Why do vultures sound like like queens songs? I personally love their sound but I don't know the drama between them.
Josh did a music clinic in my college a few hours before their sold out Dublin show, I tried my luck, “HEY JOSH ANY TICKETS FOR TONIGHT!!???” His response: “Here bud, enjoy” He handed me two tickets hahahah. Such a gentleman
Chat? Josh is a monologue type of guy... Whenever joe had a good idea and was trying to develop it, josh would just cut it with "whatever-might-fit-this-topic" ... actually, he wasnt trying to chat at all... and boy, he stutters, A LOT.
One of the best Joe Rogan podcasts ever. Josh Homme is a legend. Possibly the most intelligent musician in Rock. And extremely witty and insightful. A pleasure to listen to
30:35 The face you make when someone callously name-drops a dear friend of yours that tragically took his own life, and who you miss terribly. R.I.P. Anthony Bourdain.
This guy is out of left field fascinating and hilarious at the same time. He's the most engaged guest in a while. Dad jokes get bonus points for now being unique and retro.
“You’ll have plenty of time to die all alone” Josh Homme is a truly inspirational musician his guitar riffage is uncanny thank you for all the great music from when I was teen all the way to now a 37 year old. Don’t let the man get you down brother, see you on the other side.
My friend and had the pleasure of meeting Josh after a show at the norva in Richmond around the time of era vulgaris. He is so humble and gentle. Such a stand up guy. Talked with us for a half hour. Never seemed like he was in a hurry.
Gary Tuttle I can only imagine. It has been a very enjoyable watch/listen for me though. It sounds like Josh is having a tough time with the dissolution of his marriage but won’t say it directly out loud. I really hope he’s ok.
Josh is a very artistic dude and Joe just isn’t. Joe is insanely smart but he had a hard time rolling with such an artistic guy. Josh has a huge personality.
Dude. Joe didn’t even laugh when they were talking about dolphins and josh says “well they do it on porpoise.” That’s was absolute gold and joe just downed him.
it is funny, but not groundbreaking and it has been used allot before. If you watched Animal Planet, you have heard the porpoise/purpose pun before. I find Joe fucking hillarious, but I don't laugh at all of his Jokes. Some of them are just clever and some are so clever that I laugh about how clever they are. He also does some that does get past me and cracks me up.
@@RickBobO I always think of the camera incident now too and it feels hypocritical to just give him a pass on that. You don't just come back from kicking a girl in the face... but yeah anyone who knows about it just has to decide for themselves. For me the music is completely ruined.
First Tim Dillon episode I did not watch. Made it like four minutes. Joe really needs to quit with the oh anyone can be a comic and do podcasts. No Joe. No they can't. Some people are good at some things. And not good at others. That is reality.
@WIZARD RAPIER they were talking about killer whales and he made the play on words using "porpoise" instead of purpose. They are a cross between a whale and a dolphin, an aquatic mammal.
See, here's the thing about why Joe is awkward in this interview: 1) many comedians don't like when a non comedian is funnier than they are, and 2) they especially seem to dislike one liners, believing for some reason that they are hacky. I don't think Joe missed the jokes, I think he just didn't acknowledge them. The problem is, Joe seemed to forget that Josh is not a professional comedian, and he probably shouldn't have held those prejudices at all, in this case. This may have also been a case of one alpha encountering another he couldn't quite contend with, which is weird because Josh didn't give off any "we're competing right now" vibes. Quite a fail on Joe's part.
Agreed peachmelba1000 - Joe only laughs at comedians who are high ranking like Bill Burr or Joey Diaz... almost as if he categorizes in his head what is funny...
@Brian Jones Or he just ignores them. There were so many comments Joe dismissed that he could've delved into. I think Josh is too cerebral for Joe who's pragmatic.
That's great, I love that Josh mentioned "Mister, Would You Please Help My Pony" :) Always been my favorite Ween song. It's so random & WTF & even tugs on the heart strings, in a way that confuses you as to whether you should cry or laugh, or both, with a bewildered look on your face all the while.
Honestly I thought Joe and Josh hit off fantastically, I have hardly recognized anywhere that Joe dissed Josh by not reacting to a joke. If anything, I thought Josh talked over Joe a bit, and that Joe handled it very well. Both are legends.
Well, "It needs to stop" isn't a benchmark for cleverness either. It's not the joke, it is you who needs to stop assuming that because you personally don't fancy something it's the same way for everyone else.
Why are people bitching about Joe not laughing at Josh's jokes? Joe laughed at a ton of Josh's jokes throughout the episode. Josh laughed at a ton of Joe's. Seemed like a good episode to me.
He reminds me of my buddy from high school. He would say shit like "do you have a Juany Tar?" when asking for a one-hitter. Total goofball shit. I love it.
You guys are crazy. Read the comments first and expected Joe to come across as rude and bitter. He laughed tons at Josh's jokes. Lets be honest Josh was cracking jokey comments every sentence you can't expect Joe to just constantly piss himself. He needs to move the conversation on and get some good conversation going.
Yeah, I liked this guest but he was cracking jokes the entire episode. It would go nowhere if Joe laughed the entire episode. I don't expect people to laugh at literally every jokey response I make...
Eh that’s just the jre RU-vid audience. Not enough that we get great, free content consistently, it has to match up exactly with viewers preconceived notions. A lot of the reason I just listen to the audio tbh.
Man this was the first JRE podcast I watched all the way. Josh Homme is an incredible individual, and Joe is an incredible interviewer, and host. Thank you both
