@@lycanbane2070 not necessarily true, I have a rare ability where drinking is concerned, I can keep track of exactly how much I've had to drink regardless of how drunk I am, that is unless I black out, which fortunately for me was a pretty rare occurrence back in the day
I am 6.5 , and many people just re-thinking before start something stupid. But still i am scared if someone dont back of :D Who knows what karatte stuff did he know... and i am not insured from bottles and rocks hitting my head..... never happened though..thank god :D But Andre was so big that i think bottle cant hurt him
I met Jake the snake when I was a little kid (I'm 36) he was cool asf. I lived in a small town it was at a park looking back I think it's kinda amazing he came out to see us like that we were just a small group
My grandfather wrestled a little bit in New Zealand and Australia in the late 60s. After he passed away I found a picture of him wrestling and noticed he was getting choke slammed by a young Andre the Giant. Makes me proud.
It's guilt. Jake feels like he should have died years ago from drugs and booze, meanwhile, his friend, the sweetest, kindest, most gentle giant ever has to suffer his entire life and die prematurely.
@@AZadeh-nd8vx Yeah he was obviously insanely strong but that doesn't mean he is athletic does it? Idk, I feel like some people have different definitions of athleticism
@@GENERALWACKASS "the few" dude in the 80s they were ALL loaded to the gills. except maybe Andre, who mostly drank the pain of his giant body away. Something that Jake talks about repeatedly, in this interview. This is one of my favorite interviews Joe's ever done. I highly reccomend it. Jake's story is incredible. Most of the guys from that era of wrestling are dead.
So true!!! I agree. Could listen to them all day LOL And yes I have a ton of things to do and a very busy person it's just that damn... these stories are soooooooo good
I met Andre the Giant many years ago he was dating my friends aunt in Montreal, I took a photo of him holding my friend and the lady he was dating on each arm, he was a soft spoken fun person to be around.
You ever hear the one about the 2 french ladies who didn't know Andre was French as he walked through the hotel lobby with Rick "The Model" Martel who is French Canadian?
My mother told me, she met Andre. She was a diabetic and had a reaction to a low blood sugar. Because of this, she had to go the hospital. Andre was there doing charity work for Make a wish. He went from room to room meeting all the children until he got to my mother's room. She told him about her condition. She said that Andre weeped for her and said, "No little girl should have to go through that." If I was a wrestler in the 80s-90s, I would've wept at his funeral. Andre was truly a gentle giant, and a saint.
He never had a funeral, he just wanted his ashes spread over his farm. People were dicks to him so he told his friend verbatim “when I die just spread me here. I don’t want people to see me dead, if they want to see me they can see me now”. But nonetheless I’d be weeping with you bro lol.
I went from 6'3" as a senior in high school to 6'1" at 71. Construction work has taken it's tole. Back aches half the time. Can't imagine how professional wrestlers must feel later in life.
I have scoliosis. And had my second spinal fusion a year and 2 weeks ago. I was only 5'6" and now am 5'4". And I'm 55 years old. So yep I agree I can't imagine how much pain Andre and all wrestlers and boxers and UFC people feel from the years of abuse on their bodies. Actually let me add professional athletes period. I know my brothers played hockey in high school and collage and they are in their fifties and sixties now and still feeling the effects all these years later. And they just played as young adults.
That quotation about that "you can't really buy beer, you can only rent it" goes at least as far back as an episode of the 1970's classic TV comedy show, "All in the Family" in which Carroll O'Connor said it as Archie Bunker!
It's so great to see Jake really turn his life around and make a great comeback. After everything he suffered as a child an later achieved as a wrestler it was heartbreaking to watch his fall, which makes his comeback even more inspiring.
@@chadsknnr He might have been one of the first to ruin the heel concept because he was supposed to be hated, but everyone liked him. The thing is, people liked Andre the Giant more.
Man.... what a great time to grow up. Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Jake the Snake.... god there were so many amazing entertainers. Those guys were so great. I have so many great memories of watching it with my friends, and my dad. We'd always get the pay per views and all my friends would come over and we'd have sleep overs and watch. It was some of the best times of my life.
Ric flair, junkyard dog, million dollar man, ultimate warrior….dude it just doesn’t end…I’m so grateful I was born in 1980 and I grew up at the perfect time for all this!!! Thank you God!!!!
The way he glows when talking about Andre you can tell they were great buds and had a fantastic friendship. You can tell by the way he starts to choke up that he misses him so much. It's beautiful, and sad.
In 91 I met Andre in a hotel bar he was by himself and he had 3 plates of 12oz or larger steaks on the table and 3 pitchers of beer.. I was 11 at the time and I said hey Mom look it's Andre The Giant from tv.. he heard me say that and smiled and gave me a thumbs up lol I'll never forget that..
It's real bro you could tell he was gentle person because he smiled at me like thanks kid my mom wouldn't let me go bother him for a autograph because she was scared shitless at the size of him lol never forget that shit
When I was 13 in 1975 my dad took my friend Brian and I to the wrestling because Andre The Giant was the special guest star. The ring was on a football field and as Andre walked out to the ring, chest and shoulders bigger than anyone, my friend Brian yelled out; " Hey Andre ". We had climbed up on the fence to see over the heads of the crowd and were waving madly. Andre stopped, looked around, saw us kids on the fence and smiled and waved. We are 59 now and it sounds like nothing but Brian and I still talk about the time Andre The Giant smiled and waved to us. In that moment he became more than just a celebrity, he became our friend. Like he did to you Johnnyblasesmp.
Jake used to live near me in Lowestoft in the early 2000s. Met him a few times, always seemed friendly and ready to tell some stories of his time in the WWF.
I never knew Andre was bullied so much in public. Just before watching this video a saw an interview with Hulk Hogan and also talked about how Andre often got bullied. It kind of shocked me, he was a gentle giant.
It shouldn't surprise you that ppl,out of ignorance n fear. Harassed, bullied, ridiculed & minimized a truly gentle soul. Ppl especially in Today's time 90% of the time take Kindness,Compassion,& Empathy, are a sign of weakness & said person should be put in their place. It's disgusting
@@rbeck3200tb40 Well there were plenty of childhood stories of knights going off to kill giants. Those giants were probably like Andre the Giant--misunderstood. So there's your IDIOTs and your heroes, some bully knights.
This was a powerful podcast. Laughed, got teary eyed, was disgusted, laughed some more, rejoiced... This podcast hit alot of notes and I highly recommend checking out the entire podcast. It's worth the listen.
I met Andre 3 times. I was a bouncer... 6'5" and 365 lbs with 8% body fat. When you walked in the door, I was in a booth with 12" elevation. Andre said, "I want to be your friend". I was sooo happy he said that. During the 3 times I met him, we talked a total of maybe 2 minutes. On his 3rd visit, I had problems with some college football players. I was trying to get them to leave, but they wanted to fight. 5 of them and 1 of me. They got up and knocked over their chairs... then Andre said from behind me... you mess with him and you mess with me... they turned and left. Andre smiled, finished his beer and I never saw him again.
@@nolanm.k4315 only able to maintain that for a couple months. I went back to nearly 420 lbs a few months later. 760 lb deadlift regular grip. 1,000 lb deadlift with hooks and straps... dislocated both my sholders. Stopped powerlifting after that. Torn pec that same year. Your body isn't meant to lift those extreme weights. At 58, I still can bench 315 for 1 rep. But usually bench 225 for 6-8 reps. Sucks getting old.
I don’t want to doubt you or anything but 8% body fat at 365 is almost inhuman even at 6,5 I mean the average weight for someone that height is around 200-225 i mean how am I supposed to believe you and if you’re that weight at that height you definitely juiced up all the way but hey love your life however it makes you happy I’m not gonna judge
Ive digested dozens of stories of The Giant. Somehow, the stories keep coming. What an amazing human being. Fitting that a guy 3 times the size of an average human seemed to have 3 times the adventure of the average human. Rest in Peace Fezzik
The wrestling world is very tight knit. They travel together around the country and even the world nearly 365 days out of the year. Wrestlers are more than friend; they're family, so when they lose one of their own, it's losing a family member.
The Andre documentary had me fkd for days just seeing all the love he had and how people would treat him in public and knowing all that he wet through was so accurate because it all come form his friend and handler who seen it every day with Andre. His tears when he's talking about Andre in the documentary showed he was telling everyone about Andre and then remembering all the storys about his best friend I'm so glad he did so we all got to see a fantastic documentary about the real person who put wwf on the TV
There is, however, no record of Jake ever slamming Andre. Jake also tried to say he was going to get a feud with Warrior for the WWF title in 1991, except Warrior lost that title at Royal Rumble, and the way Jake told it, this was meant ro have happened around SummerSlam, so either Jake has it badly wrong due to alcoholic amnesia or he is telling outright lies!
Jake seems like a beloved maternal uncle of mine who sadly passed away 18-20 years ago, shortly after my maternal grandparents. Mike was AMAZING and had so many great and colorful stories to tell like Jake. I had the privilege to meet Jake several years ago at a local convention... His recovery and his personality and his incredible way about him make him one of my favorite people of all time, not just wrestler. You cannot say a bad thing about him, now. He had demons, and he had trouble conquering them and he was in a spiral of toxic behavior, as chronicled in Beyond the Mat (showed him at something akin to rock bottom, and he is not proud at all of how he was shown here) and Resurrection (SO inspiring how it turns out), but he rose above it and has become one of the most inspiring figures in wrestling and in LIFE. Thanks for posting this, and the other clips from his time on JRE. I love them.
My great uncle Clayton was a wrestler /manager years ago 60 s.I first met him in 1976 ,when I was six.He was the kindest ,sweetest man I ever met . Much love
True story: I am a mental health counselor. I showed the JR documentary to one of my patients. He LOVED it. He was deeply moved by it. I ended up buying 2 copies 1 for him and 1 for the entire ward of 29 other patients. They watch it once a month.
@@tomcarpenter7821 I found out the copy I gave to the ward, is now in circulation at our hospital library. Other counselors check it out throughout the ENTIRE hospital. You probably expect mental illness and drug & alcohol abuse go hand n hand. Which they unfortunately do. But ALOT of psych patients are big wrestling fans as well. Jake the Snake is very well known at my hospital. I wish he could read this and know his story has saved lives.
He's a great guy. Hung with him at Comic con revolution in chicago last weekend. Helped take care of his table while we ran our own booth. Gave us autographs and hugged everyone when he left. Saying thank you guys so much for the help.
this is some of the best wrestling interviews I've ever seen or heard on the Rogan show awesome awesome interview with Jake snake what stories man the guy really is a legend so glad he was able to find himself good job snake
Those idiots that messed with Andre the Giant are lucky he was the great person he was. He could have crushed those people like they didn't even exist like a fly. I have no respect for anybody that makes fun of other people for the way they were born but I have more respect for Andre than anybody in the world cuz he could have squashed them and he did not. I would have reminded them how small they really were if that was me. One more reason why Andre the Giant was such a special person I think the only thing bigger than him was his heart
@@ValdVincent *If I "Out drink" you, it means I drink more than you, if I out run you, I run more than you.... if I outpiss you, I piss more than you.... what is it you dont understand, smartass?*
I get quite sad, im 6'10" and my life is a daily hell in the pain department. Can't even imagine how rough life would be for someone even bigger than me...
Jake's basically the wrestling version of Keith Richards. Conventional wisdom suggests he should have been gone along time ago. Still with us and last I heard still straight.
During a break on the set of “The Princess Bride”, cast members, crew...everyone...was standing around waiting for the next shot to be set up. Suddenly, Andre rips a fart that lasted a full 15-20 seconds, in front of everyone, men and women. It reportedly sounded like something that would come out of a Water Buffalo’s ass, it was so loud. Everyone was in shock (or awe) not saying a word. Finally, Rob Reiner (the Director) said “Andre...are you OK?”. Andre replied, “I am now, Boss.” Classic...
I remember this. They were doing a rehearsal shot where they were standing on a parapet overlooking the castle, and Cary Elwes is mostly dead. Andre's fart actually shook the plywood set they were standing on, and the sound guy was probably deaf by the time it was over
sometimes its hard for big and gentle guys, because all the dumb assholes who want to look alfa try to pick on and test a big gentle guy, to show how cool they are.
I'm so glad to see Jake the Snake healthy and happy, was pretty soul crushing to see him in 'Beyond The Mat' hitting rock bottom but it goes to show it's never too late to turn it around.
@Nivek Yea, love to hear about the alcoholic fat giant with terrible breath, who fingers oter wrestler's'ass, ripps their hair and crushes their ribcage while farting on them. What a great guy LOL. Glad that obece fuck is dead.
I just hope Jake knows he has tons of fans, even still to this day. The man is a legend. I was around 5 yrs old and Jake was one of my favorites. I think heels/villains have it harder. I still root for villains in movies to this day. xD
I was all set to meet Jake The Snake with my little brother back in 1988. He was supposed to be attending a meet and greet at Jumbo Video in Kitchener, Ontario. But we got down there and got in line only to have the event organizer come out and tell us that Jake can't make it ! I guess he was on one of his benders the night before.
You can really tell when rogen respects his guests. Now that nick swardin he would've made smart ass remarks lol but jake is a LEGEND a god damn PUREBREAD
Like it or not, wrestlers are athletes. Of course the outcomes are planned, but it doesn't change the fact that every stunt they do in ring is 100% true (with some tricks).
I smile watching jake the snake talks. Grew up watching his batch of wrestlers and those were the days when WWE was awesome and every kids have their own wwe idol. Really miss those years man. 80s and 90s were wonderful.
The empathy in Jake the snake when he talks about Andre the giant and when he says that he would cry if he sees the documentary , broke me. I have a new respect for the man and have hope for how good humans are
Hey.. it was the 80's.. Drinking and driving was the LEAST of the politically incorrect, law breaking shit we did.. Glad I made it out of that decade reasonably in tact, not dead or in jail, and mostly sane 🍸😎🚬
I love listening to Jake the Snake tell stories especially about Andre. He is so funny even though he is serious. God Bless u Jake Robert’s on your recovery many times over and how u made it after wrestling
I seen Andre at an airport one time waiting for his flight. He couldn't sit anywhere because all the chairs had those arm rests separating them, Someone managed to remove one so he could sit, and he still had trouble squeezing into two chairs. I just remember his feet coming half up the back of the seats in front of him, and the size of his hands. You could tell he was embarrassed, he some old guy with him almost shielding Andre from people. Although he did let some of us kids get his autograph and was very nice to us. Despite seeing how uncomfortable he was. Kind sad, but as a kid you never pay attention to that kind of stuff.
