@Yousef Lotus that definitely holds assuming that you know what you one now. Before 911 what they'd do is land the plane and hold the people hostage then die in a shoot out. The people on the plane probably were scared and thought they'd make it worse and once the plane landed they'd be saved
I actually met Mark Wahlberg and I can say from my experience he was a great guy. All around nice and took time to talk to his fans. Just my experience with him
I don't doubt that Mark Wahlberg may be a nice guy to his fans but no famous person wants to be seen in a negative light. That's bad publicity. However I do feel like playing these badass hero roles have gone to his head. He believe that trying to intercept terrorists on the planes on 9-11 would be the answer to the problem but I think matters would have ended up worse.
@@callmewaves1160 that makes no sense how would it have been worse? The worst already happened when a bunch of pussy ass sheep sat and did nothing all these people attacking mark are the same type that would sit there silent without a doubt. So instead of sacrificing 3 stewardess lives and potentially all diverting the scumbags plans they just sat there like theyre going to work. Maybe mark knows the type of person he is deep down and knows he would stand up to injustice at all costs
@@FightTacticsbets Right bc everyone on those two planes were cowards. Nobody knew what was gonna happen, they probably thought they would land the plane and hold them ransom.

@@ixine-vm2ft you are going to try something with no back up and potentially leave your kids alone to deal with the situation? They didn’t know they were going to die. You are confusing your desire to do something with your ability. The fact that Wahlberg said he would have succeeded and successfully landed the plane sounds delusional.

You know what;s great about Joe, he has the ability to empathize with people where they are. With the people on the plane, with Mark’s comment, even with what a terrorist would be thinking. He doesn’t just shoot off the first thing that comes to mind. This is why his podcast is popular.
@@thefilmpoets - sorry but it is you that is wrong. He always rides the fence and does not commit one way or the other for the purpose of not contradicting people on either side. Of course he feels one way or the other, but by riding that fence he never takes a stand and is not true to himself.
When my father had a stroke, I froze for a few seconds. I didnt know what to do. Then I took a short breath, cleared my thoughts. Then ran for my phone, called 911, and went back to my dad. When I looked back at the event, I realized how easy it is to freeze up. Life events are always unexpected. You can't prepare for everything, the only thing you do is train yourself to handle stress. Love the show, always interesting guest and topics.
I had a similar experience, I decided I never wanted to feel that helpless again so I joined the local volunteer fire department . The training and experience I got has helped in many situations. Just the ability to handle sudden stress has changed so many situations I’ve experienced throughout my life.
This is why ppl in the medical field are not allowed to have family members as patients. I am an RN and I froze when my 1 mo old son quit breathing. Honestly, It's different.

@Adam Rutherford If someone is arrogant enough to think that they will be jason bourne when they get deployed to Afghanistan, you should avoid them because their judgement probably needs some refining.
Mark Wahlberg probably thinks it would be like a movie scene where he silently takes out each terrorist one by one and then says God Bless America with a close up of the Flag fading into the shot.
Either that or he says "I should've flown first class" and then he bangs a stewardess in the bathroom, fade to credits with the song Good Vibrations playing.
They claimed they had a bomb, “if anyone moves boom.” I could almost guarantee the passengers were thinking “I’m not going to be the reason that these assholes hit the switch” so they sat there. The reason why the passengers of flight 93 fought back was because a few of the passengers got word of what was happening, so they knew the terrorists had intentions of using the plane as a “missile” and not as a negotiation tactic. They fought back bravely unfortunately the terrorists knew that the game was up and crashed the plane. 🥺
@@norrinradd8848 if it really came down to it there’s no question the government would shoot down a plane to prevent more deaths. Although I thought the CVR of Flight 93 picked up the passengers breaching the cockpit in attempt to regain the plane?

I wanna see a Peter Berg directed film Starring Mark Wahlberg where he plays a dad, who has changed his life around in the past decade and a half and now has 2 kids after a childhood in a rough neighborhood of fighting, and trying to survive gang life and to get out of a bad part of the city. We see him on the plane and the hijacking about to go down -- and the camera pans into his eyes -- as he quickly starts to mentally McGuiver the situation in his head -- and fucking Die Hard's their asses... and shirtless, sweaty, and bleeding -- fucking dude lands the plane roughly but everyone is safe. @That Guy yeah when he was marky mark with 20 goons with him lol. Dude hes 5’8 relax lol on a plane alone with family and hes 185 soaking wet. Stop talking like he’s conan
It almost seems like someone has forgotten that 4 planes were hijacked on that day. Only 3 reached a target, the fourth didn’t because of the heroism and subsequent sacrifice of those passengers on Flight 93.
Wahlbergs logic reminds me of when people say stuff like 'I would never have been a Nazi' in 30's Germany. You can never know until you're in that situation, and everyone on those planes thought that hijackers usually make demands and stuff and it usually ends peacefully, until the last planes passengers heard that other planes were being flown into buildings.
@@johnbull1568 Exactly, people fail to understand that Nazi's and terrorists are human just like them, just with different circumstances and perspectives.
Everything is this video is a bs waste of time smokescreen nonsense. Reason: NONE OF OF THE 4 PLANES activated hijack code even though they (after the 1 plane) got warning from the airport security. Hijackers SOMEHOW managed to get inside the cabins in all 4 cases which is just nonsense. Also, those 19 so called hijackers were in fact playboys who did drugs and alcohol (which real fanatical islamist don't do), they were known to police long before. M. It’s about controlling yourself in an environment and knowing what to do because of training. Thank you jo, for letting people know that being able to fight doesn’t mean you could stop terrorists.
Exactly. And the official airline policy (all of them) was don't confront the hijackers...just give them what they want. Only reason the passengers fought back on the 4th plane was because the hijackers encouraged them to use the in flight cellphones. SInce the other 3 planes had crashed by that time the passengers knew what was what.
Here's just one example of a hijacking ending in death with no pre-emptive attack by the crew or passengers, from 1970: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Air_Lines_Shuttle_Flight_1320
Lots of hijackings and a precious few outliers where there was at least some effort to crash the plane as a weapon. I lived through all those years and was totally unaware of that. This just proves the OP's general point was correct - at this time the expectation was that a hijacker would land the plane in Cuba or Libya or something like that. Thus you would not risk life and the possibility of provoking a suicide bomb or a crash. Walberg is full of shit! The one plane where the passengers DID know they did fight back and at least prevent another attack.
Yea but if some terrorist try and hijacking a plane in 2018 with little knives all that hind-sight build up will pay off and hopefully the people absolutely tackle and destroy the assholes on the plane.
Part in Toy Story 2 when the old man repairs Woody I think he means that because we all know what happened, and that one group of terrorists were taken down, there are more people who may be willing to rush them.
CorbCorbin I appreciate the idea but as they said in the video I don’t think people really know how they would react in such a situation as it’s so extreme
What Mark initially said on the Howard Stern show, he was asked about him supposed to be on that flight, which he was but ended up going to Toronto instead & then was Scheduled on a different flight, & then Howard said oh if you were on that flight, you woulda kicked their ass right? Then Mark said something like well it’s a tragedy etc & then Stern asked again & Then what Mark said was that he travels with a couple of Giant dudes who can handle themselves along with him, & they all fly first Class, so they woulda gotten cut up & bleed & that it would’ve took more than a box cutter to stop them from attacking the terrorists & he feels like them along with other people who hopefully would get up to join in would’ve been able to stop them, & then after that interview idk where it went but that’s what he said initially

Shaidon66 you don’t know if that plane is going to land safely or hit the twin towers m. It’s easy now to weigh your options knowing the alternative is death but you don’t know that. You don’t know you’re in 9-11 in the moment
@@yashdeo8047 Absolutely. When things are happening in life and death events..you don't know all the facts or the who, what, or why. You do the best you can because most people have no idea how they would actually act in a situation like that. You act on what you know to the best of your knowledge and hope for the best.
Exactly, everyone likes to think they'd step up & be the hero.......that they'd fight burglars who are armed with knives & a cold turkey, but would they? or would they think it is better for their family if they just let them take the bmw or the jewellery? I was burgled by 3 men, luckily whilst i was on holiday......but clearly, the fact that there was 3 meant they came heavy handed anticipating a possible confrontation. Breaking into someones house at night, knowing there are women & children asleep there, surely means that you understand the father would have to consider the worse case scenario of that you intend to rape & kill........but the law says that you are only allowed to use reasonable force & if you take out that baseball bat under your bed, then you are the assailant. it is ok if you take the knife off the intruder &, in fear for your life, stab him, but if you stab that intruder with a kitchen knife in your kid's bedroom raping your daughter, then it is not ok because you will be asked how you came to be in possession of a kitchen knife. For me, if i heard someone breaking in, i would rush downstairs & smash their skull into mush, but in reality, i might throw them my car keys & ask them to leave. I had a friend who was burgled, they shit on his dining room table, pissed on his sofa & stole jewellery from the bedside table next to his wife & he pretended he was asleep. We should all ask ourselves what extremes we would be prepared to go to to protect our family..........sometimes those extremes might be heroic because they are the most passive & opposite to our nature......it may be far more courageous to spend your life considering yourself as a coward because of your lack of action, but with a family, than a have a go hero without one.

@@veterannavy304 where’d you hear that from, interesting...idk why they wouldn’t just tell us they shot down the plane that’s also badass. Americans do what needs to be done
I think it has to be taken into account that he was actually scheduled to be on one of the planes that was taken hostage on 9-1-1. The fact that he could have been on it, that he was a potential victim, basically forces him into the place of thinking about what he would have done in a more immediate way than most people. He can't avoid thinking about "What if?" and so taking the attitude that he did is maybe just a way of dealing that.
I don’t think a lot of people think Mark is a dick for saying it, or thinking it. It’s just the fact that he said it publicly to the world. He should’ve kept that to himself lol. I think any father would have that thought too if they were supposed to be in that plane with their wife and kids.
@@meladgoat that’s exactly what my point was. It was fine for him to say it privately to his friends or family or whatever, but he just made himself look like a douche by making sure to say it publicly.

I guess i read people different. I actually think Wahlberg is probably a pretty tough dude. A good fighter... i dunno... but i don't think he's some cry-baby candyass.
The best thing to remember is that no matter tough you are, there is always someone tougher and your goal should be not to ever find out who that is. The biggest mistake is to count the "W" before the fight gets started.

He apologized right after. "To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention," Wahlberg said in a statement.

Everyone forgets the routine hijacking planes for money that went on in the 80's (which just happen to be closer to 9/11 than we are now). No one could have imagined what was actually going on was going to happen, and I'm sure most in that position at the time would've believed they would end up sitting on a runway waiting on a bag of money to be delivered. Only one of those flights knew what was going to happen and they did exactly what he is saying here, but with zero movie actor training or stuntmen to take their place. They didn't get to be hindsight heros, and while their fates were ultimately the same they did change the outcome in a very major way.
@Paul .I'm only stating what millions of patriotic Americans are thinking and saying, and have said, including scientists and governors and families of victims of 911. If you believe that the US has never committed any false flags on it's own people in it's history, to maintain its own agenda, then you are the one who is a complete dimwit. No-one believes 9/11 occurred because Al-Qaeda (aka that overused, now outdated buzzword) were "jealous of your freedom". Can't believe the public bought that line from war mongerer GW.Bush
Paul no, they didn’t. That’s impossible, and has never happened. Look it up you fucking moron. No steel frame skyscraper has been taking down by fire. They have completely burned up, but the steel remains because office fires don’t burn hot enough. And jet fuel exploded on impact. If you hate science then I get it, you probably believe the Bible is true.
During 9-11 I was a flight attendant for United Airlines. I left Los Angeles and arrived in New York the night before. Our training was NOT to do anything heroic...just comply with the hijackers and let the authorities negotiate our release.
The first guy to die on 9/11 was a veteran of Israel sayeret matkal, and that's with him understanding Arabic and possibly having a heads up of what was going on. Mark Wahlberg should stick to picking on elderly 5"2 Vietnamese men. A real hero.
Everyone wants to be the hero, but when something bad actually happens you don’t know how you will respond. You could save people, or get someone, or many people killed. Hard to know what to do?
theskateboardfan If you get someone killed, you are going to have regret. You are definitely entitled to your opinion though, a lot of ways to look at a difficult situation.
I know dude. He's had singers on, and guess what? Not one note from them. Fighters, too, and not so much as a quick three minute sparring session atop the desk. It's bullshit.
That's what makes this podcast great and horrible. It all depends on the guest. But sometimes it's great to hear a musicians view on science or a scientists view on music etc. Sometimes it's not. You can't win em all.
None of the muscle hijackers were over 5'7" or weighed over 130lbs. ...they were however committed to die. .... would you have risked bringing the plane down if previous hijackings involved a safe landing?
