Senior year I brought my blue Ovation to school everyday. I practiced in the stairwells, got lessons from teachers, befriended the ‘weird’ crowd…etc. It was amazing how many people helped me that first year despite being the school jock. Fast forward to college and my baseball coach joined my band on stage on harmonica, got to play on Bourbon St after losing to Tulane, and watched The Last Waltz or Mayer Live in LA on every bus ride. Now 37 and couldn’t imagine life without it…but I only made it cause my expectation was actually ‘10 yrs’ 😂. So having my first major cover band at year 3 was thrilling.
As a person who has zero musical background or "skill", I love your analytical breakdown and feedback of songs, and honest analysis. While most of the technical breakdown you do goes over my head, I still love your systematic and well stated analysis of songs. Side request as a non-paid-subscriber (yet), have you ever done or will you please do a song of maybe my current favorite band, Black Keys! much love and respect...
Seemed like a little E blues thing. Most of the notes are from E Minor pentatonic with some G#'s in there (the major 3rd) and some C#'s (the major 6th, which means you might think of this as playing in E Dorian with the occasional major 3rd sprinkled in for spice).
Hey. I was at a live stream the other day and asked if you knew Lonnie Mack. He was a great player. I was wondering if you could do a reaction to one of his songs. There is a live video of him playing with Stevie Ray Vaughn
I NEED you to do more Punch Brothers. The Blind Leaving the Blind is their 45 minute ode to Chris Thile’s divorce. You don’t need to do the whole thing at once, but you should absolutely check out MVT 1 at the very least
I noticed that when Joe expressed his concern about fat fingers he was trying to put both fingers on the same string. I'm sure most viewers of this channel with see the problem here, but to explain, the fingers are more staggered in good guitar playing. The fingers don't need to be next to each other, because each finger should be under the other. I hope this clip inspires at least a few Rogan viewers to pick up a guitar.
I started playing electric guitar during my teenage years, Metallica and such, but wasn't learning too much and eventually got bored of it when I hit my ceiling. 20 years later, during the pandemic, I was working from home and decided to put the guitar on a stand close to my computer, practicing during the time gaps of my work. It's been awesome, practicing every couple hours every day, with so much guitar material online, and now I can play a handful of Dream Theater songs for my enjoyment only. Even I got a 7 string a year ago and it's been fun as heaven. Repetition is absolutely the key.
Cool beans! A struggle on the guitar because I learned on the bass. I never worried about the chords because they were being played my others lol I never sat and practiced alone I only played when we jammed and it worked really well for me. Although I know now that I am going to have to start with the beginners course and learn the chords if I want to play guitar because you certainly can't plink bass lines and strum 1 4 5 power cords playing solo....😮😊 Thanks for doing what you do Michael... By the way your cousin from New Jersey lives right down the street from me LOL he looks like he could be your older brother and his name is Michael Palma LOL
Thanks for the replies, but this was just letting the content creator know my preference. You think “nobody cares”, but Michael might, if enough people let him know they’d rather not see content like this. I’m not going anywhere, just not watching this particular video. Thanks!
