Maradona defintitely had a way bigger arsenal of tricks and abilities, including his endless nutmegs, heel passes, and rabona crosses/passes too. Never have I seen a player master all these skills like Maradona did, plus he also had the ability to slalom through defenders at a whim, like Messi does.
But you gonna think about players improve and has seen many skills and has tricks to stop them, so it’s harder in the time of Pele and maradonna they invented many tricks too and defenders were confused! @@messii648 Nothing new was invented and they're just reverting to the tactical style of play that has always been so common in Europe. Not many players care about standing out, being the different one, like we used to see with South American talents. It's not that no one can't, it's that no one even tries to be that player. Messi has shown us that it's still very possible. It's not like modern players suddenly became super players that won't allow dribble gods to succeed, it's that there are no players anymore that care to play that way. Look at how horrible Brazilian players are these days? They don't resemble anything of the once Jogo Bonito era anymore.

If winning the world cup was all Messi needed to rubber-stamp, goat status. What about Pelé who won it a whopping THREE times!? It took Messi practically his whole career to win it at 35. So first he scored the goal called "The Hand of God" yes, cheating and in my opinion not worth of being called the goal of the century. THEN later on the same match he receives the ball on his own field and dribbles past the entire english team (goalie included) and THAT ONE ends up being the Goal of the Century. and Maradona did both in the same match for quarter finals of a world cup against the always might England.

A ball controlling and technical wizard whereas Ronaldo is much taller, race horse fast at a dead sprint, super strong and a jumper that make him very strong when it comes to winning areal balls. They are just two totally differently built men. Both being masters at what they accel at. Messi ball control, passing nd being able to finish because he is a master at putting the ball where he wants it to go. Ronaldo out powers other players, swiftly speeds past them and has the explosiveness plus precision to strike balls using that power which results i goals. Which type of player is a "Better" player is left up to the situations that said player finds themselves in..
