Same way people forget that ronaldo had always had almost the same no of assists as messi until 2018, ronaldo also had comparable dribbles per game , messi had 3.3 while ronaldo had 2.7 up until 2014 the injury. They also forgot that ronaldo was a no 7 who puts in crosses better than almost anyone on the pitch, they don't remember the through balls , they only remember the ronny from 2 years ago. That’s a f00ls logic. Messi worked just as hard. Ronaldinho (if you know who he is) was super talented, but didn’t work hard and lasted 5yrs max. Messi is closer to 20years at the top. That’s not a “gift”. That’s graft
Nonsense...talent alone doesn't keep you at that level for almost 20years. Look at Ronaldinho, Robinson. Also it’s funny how age was never taken into account when comparing their career totals…when comparing stats by age messi has alwAys been far superior.
You can't compare Messi to Curry, Schultz. Just Say it. Most assists, most goals, smart passing, great defender, most championships, MVPs... MESSI IS COMPARABLE TO JORDAN, SCHULTZ! He reached this status when he showed the hunger every game, the shit talking, the 20 year vengeance on van ghal coach vs Netherlands (he took it personal), the cold haerted leadership when he kicked that sloooow penalty kick vs France ON THE WORLD CUP FINAL. This guy reached god level and GOAT status no doubt. Perhaps, maybe... MESSI>JORDAN.
Yeah messi was ‘born’ with talent. But so are many footballers. We saw many who have so much talent but dont reach there potentials. Balotelli, hazard, depay, etc etc.Messi and Ronaldo just worked harder then most in there own ways. Love them both, both a gift from the football gods.
@@billjames1216 can you read bruh, im saying theres footballers who are said to be special talents but fall short because they’re lazy and dont work hard enough to reach there potential
In basketball terms, specifically body feints, messi is very reminiscent of Allen Iverson and his crossovers, but yeah also Curry, specifically his 3 pointers, as messi these days has become one of those players who keeps banging in long range shots, but also passing and vision like tom brady, being 3 steps ahead. Apparently, kerr based some of his tactics on prime barcelona during the tiki taka days of 2009-2012.
Watch Messi’s old football footage when he was very young(micro dribbles, pristine finishing, super human awareness). He was doing the exact same thing at that age against his peers. He’s gifted. It’s like Will Hunting in Good Will Hunting…he looks at a problem and the answer just comes to him.
agreed he worked hard like everyone else, but who said other footballers worked less than him? They probably work the same or even more than him but they will never get to messi's level. If hard work the only reason, why isn't there many players like messi?
Ronaldo won 5 Balon d'Ors during the peak Messi years. And he won 5 Champions League titles plus a Euro and Nations League with Portugal 🇵🇹. And he's the greatest goal scorer in the history of football. Not bad for a guy who's leagues behind Messi.
The Goat debate was not decided by the World Cup. Messi is a player who cannot be described by statistics, anyone who has seen him play during his prime knows that. Nevertheless, together with Ronaldo, he leads almost all statistics. In 15 years we will look back on these careers and there will be no more debate. Messi is the greatest footballer in history. The debate will be whether Ronaldo is the second greatest footballer in history. PS: (It was the greatest final, but no way this was the greatest World Cup)
Did you forget pele? Even as a messi fan i would still have to admit Pele had more impact both inside and outside of the field while still having better stats per game than anyone else. Even tho i would still call messi the goat, no one can say that debate will ever be over because they never played against each other

And brazil had the best players in the world at the time, the vast majority of them playing in brazil, Europe didn't dominate football back then as it does now, the Brazilian league was very strong at the time
3:30 you're actually completely forgetting about his assist against Croatia where he left the defender for dead. A defender who was widely-regarded as one of the tournament's best up until this point. Built different.
At this point is insulting too Messi to compare him to Ronaldo. The debate now is not Messi or Ronaldo. Is Pele, Maradona, and Messi. But everything Messi has acomplished including the World Cup and his longetivity , he is the Greatest footballer of all time.

Funny to see how people who just recently entered the football world don't take into consideration all the different factors that influence results in a players career. Team, manager, league, country, fatigue, quantity and severity of injuries, between lots of other things.
Also, every WC final is awesome, that's why football is so damn attractive to many countries. This maybe is the first final you guys have fully payed attention to because it had Messi whom is a huge image worldwide.

How can anyone say Messi is less hardworking? He had to overcome physical disability + the side effects of the treatment. And is still incredibly fast and stable.
Cristiano Ronaldo's problem started in 2014 world cup when he suffered tendonitis and again he was injured in euro 2016 final. Prime CR7 was a joy to watch. He's decision making stepovers, knuckle ball shots and free-kicks. Dude was carrying his team on his shoulders when Madrid didn't had the likes of Modric, Kroos etc. Meanwhile Messi had one of the best manager in Guardiola, a very well gelled team with the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Dani Alves, Puyol, pique, etc. Even after the injury Ronaldo reinvented his style of play and became a deadly striker. This season really was a blot on Ronaldo's legacy. Thanks to Man Utd. I hope he recovers and we could see good farewell on the top just like Messi did.
What a frigging lie , Madrid was always stacked under Mourinho, the difference is they bought players that fit the mentality and some of the others that were there just grew
Ronaldo during his first stint at Manchester was with quite possibly the greatest Manchester united squad ever with SAF at the helm. So not just Messi but Ronaldo also was always surrounded by great players and coaches. And btw Barcelona's senior team was Guardiola's first job. So Ronaldo had a bigger advantage by getting to play under a more experienced manager
@@jonnstewart2023 really? The likes of Kaka and Casillas were falling off with him whole team was in distraught on many big occasions. Yet Ronaldo was constantly delivering. And you are comparing a Barca team which was pretty much the same with its playing style since 2006. Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Messi, Valdes, Pique etc were playing since their childhood at Barca. I never thought i’d see the day where Americans debate over soccer.😄 You guys need to check some video’s from the Brazilian Ronaldo… But comparing Christiano and Lionel based on this worldcup, just isn’t fair
Ronaldo and Messi play different positions as well. For all intent and purpose Ronaldo is a striker or a pure attacker and Messi is more of a playmaker/ Midfielder.
This is one of th millions reasons why messi is better. Ronaldo can't play that midfield role, Messi controls and dominates games from anywhere with his playmaker skills but can still play that attacking role with goals, he can literly do it all. 🐐🐐
This is one of the most annoying myths ever. If there was anybody who was a midfielder between Messi and Ronaldo it was Ronaldo. Messi was placed in a pure false 9 position under Pep guardiola meaning he could roam any point of attack he wanted. This has been Messi's position for years. Ronaldo on the other hand has only been a striker for 6 years (6 years out of his 20 year career) originally he was a right midfielder crossing in balls from flanks, before later on he adapted into a fully fledged left winger. Reducing him to a "striker" just shows when you started watching football

11:13: Johan Cruijff a Dutch player from the '70's is a player who never won a WC yet he's considered one of the top 4-5 of all time. Plus, his impact on the game was immense even after he retired, he was the mastermind behind the youth academy of Barcelona (La Masia) which produced Messi, and the system of total football (technically the Dutch coach Rinus Michels came up with it, but Cruijff perfected it) which led the club to a complete domination globally, Barcelona was the numero uno football/soccer club in the world for half a decade in mid-2000's
Yes, Cruyff is the guy who revolutionised modern football. He had an immense impact on the sport as a player, even a bigger impact as a manager. He'd probably be up there in debate with Maradona and Pele as old time greats if he had won that 74 wc final but for me, wc doesn't define a player.
He is also the first true professional football player as he was the first in the world that demands a contract renegotiation (with Ajax) and the first football player that using an agent to do just that.
I think that's a silly statement that I hear. Engineers would choose the most effective player. Messi chooses the most effective options almost every time.
Don't agree. Messi now is clearly one or two levels above Ronaldo. He is on the Maradona and Pele level. Ronaldo, although being fantastic and the second best player of the generation, isn't on that level
He had more natural talent as did Brazilian Ronaldo. But they had poor longevity. Messi and Ronaldo especially are extremely disciplined and consistent. But R. Nazario was unstoppable on the pitch and Maradona was put magic. I still watch Maradona clips and I’m like “how the hell did he pull that?”

You are forgiven from comparing Messi to Antetokounmpo because football may not be the sport you grew up watching. And that’s key. As great as this 2022 WC final was, Messi’s legacy is remarkable. Having grown up watching football and 80’s basketball I’d compared Messi’s legacy and problem solving abilities to that of MJ himself.

He's not the only player in the football world to push himself. Y'all hype him too much. Even with all that pushing he isn't world class anymore. Thus no UCL club wants him. Every player requires to push himself to keep relevant according to game especially when it comes to division 3 and above
