At 65 years old I was a chain smoking alcoholic and obese at 350 pounds. On my 65th birthday I quit smoking. Then a year later I quit drinking alcohol and started on the Keto diet. 30 months from my 65th birthday I was a non smoking, non drinking svelt 190 pound guy. 6 years later I’m 71 years old and still no smoking, no drinking and under 200 lbs.👍
130 lbs down since June of 2018.. This podcast was a *MASSIVE* turning point. EDIT: As of February of 2021, I am now down a total of 150 lbs. Thanks so much for all of the encouragement!
Circassian Dude I lost 130lbs in a very unhealthy way and gained it all back, now I have lost 100 lbs eating fruit veggies nuts and lean meat a tip I could give you is you have to pick a lifestyle you can stick with for the rest of your life hope this help
My youngest son was 260 pounds, he decided that he didn’t want to be that weight anymore and started doing what he needed to to loose weight. It took him some time, but he went from 260 to 170 and he did it himself. I’m so proud of him.
You might want to insert his height for reference. That could help. I weigh 260. I'm 6 ft 3. I'm proportionate. Might want to put the height in their stupid
I’ve been 348 pounds for about a year now. Used to be able to eat 5 jack in the box entrees just for dinner alone plus whatever I would have for lunch and breakfast and snacking constantly. Back in April starting on the 12th I started making changes to my diet including spiralized vegetables in place of pasta and cauliflower rice in place of regular rice in addition to cutting out most bread and lactose and cutting down a lot on sugar plus I drink acv every day. Today I weighed in at 301 pounds. My goal was to get below 300 by September 20th(beginning of fall). Thanks to these simple changes and now only eating 1-2 meals a day, I am less hungry, have created a caloric deficit, exercise daily, and I will be shattering my goal by almost a month. After I get below 300, my new goal will be 275 by the end of the year.
Keep it up. Exercise especially. I used to be that weight, used to be around 350. Im around 235 right now. Took a couple years. I started losing weight at the start.of the pandemic.
That’s awesome! It’s crazy how much changing simple things make a big impact. Hope your journey takes you where you want to go. I reached 297 about a week ago. Now the road to 270 before the end of the year begins. Past couple weeks, starting to notice muscle building in my arms. Gonna keep on the grind. Respect to you!
Hey man, great progress! we're here for you. don't forget that progress isn't linear, you'll have highs and lows but as long as you make it past that then you'll reach your goal. I believe in you
@@mahimer-bb5kg thank you, friend. It’s good to see people across platforms supporting and building each other up. Down to only 295 due to plateauing a bit but still building muscle and eating healthy. Peaks and valleys will happen as you said but just staying consistent is key
I am 300 pounds so I started fasting and every time I want something to eat I just ask myself do I love eating or do I want to see my 3 year old grandson grow up. One month down 22 pounds.
Michael Noland thanks . After smoking for over 20 years my stepdaughter was getting severe nosebleeds so the doctor told her it was because someone in the house smoked. Of Course I said bull to that so I made her a deal I would quit smoking until she got another nosebleed 25 years latter I still don’t smoke. Sometimes you just need the right motivation in life.
People will misinterpret this as "it's not your fault that you're fat". That is not what he's saying, you still need to play an active role in your weight loss.
It's funny how staying active and eating healthy your whole life will keep you from getting fat. My dad is fat as fuck and my mom isn't exactly in shape but I turned out just fine. Genetics are just a tiny part of it, your actions are the real determining factor.
Yeah just means you have more work to do. The amount of calories someone needs to sustain their body mass can vary up to 30% by person. That's huge. I'm average size and my body runs on about 1600 kcal. Gotta go to around 1400 to start loosing weight. Meanwhile by every account I should be having a 400 calorie deficit at 1600 but nope. Just gotta work extra hard. And building muscle mass helps burn more at rest.
I'm post menopausal, 5'4" and 115 lbs. The key for me is intermittent fasting. I still consume sugar in small bits, but it's mostly protein, veg, and fats.
I'm down 28lbs, stopped eating fast food, smoking and sodas. Got off my fatass and started walking and working out. I'm getting stronger and losing weight every day. Thanks Goggins.
I struggled with weight growing up, I drank a lot of soda, I weighed 215 in 8th grade, was 6 foot 2+ but, when I got to be an adult I got in great shape. Last year in December I went to the doctor, I weighed 300 pounds. I couldn't believe it, the most shocking part was that the doctor was obese himself and didn't even mention it. I knew then I had to do something. But I continued to do the same things I had been doing. I was speaking to a coworker one day and said, yeah, I eat horrible food every day and it makes me feel like sh!t, it made me open my eyes seriously. I took a long look in the mirror, lost 100 pounds and feel like I'm in my twenties again. I have a toddler, and want to set the best example I can. Another thing that helped was coaching my son's tee-ball team. Those kids 3-4 year olds, didn't care about baseball, didn't even know what it was, but every day we played or practiced, they tried their hardest. I said why don't I do that? Anyway, as you can probably imagine, my life has improved, my relationship with my significant other has improved, I'm a better parent, worker, and person. Diet really matters.
Yeah back in the day the idea of how toxic and unhealthy soda and fast food is wasn't really discussed as much. I remember how many people I saw drinking jumbo soda's and meals all the itme.
I love the fact Joe listens to his guests. Never interrupting, never has to be the center of attention. That's one of the reasons he has millions of listeners.
I was obese an lost all my weight it took about two years almost but I still lost it people friends family dont even recognize me anymore lol still till this day I'm proud of it. Hard work dedication
I watched this 6 months ago when I was almost 300 lbs. I’m now 245 and still going 💪 **edit** wow you are all my motivation! Thank you for making this such a positive thread!! The quarantine definitely threw me off track a bit... I used some that nice stimulus $$$ to get a new bike!!! The grind never stops keep going strong!! Update I’m 240 and back on it!
M L intermittent fasting! I try to eat smaller meals between 12 PM and 8 PM. Started to introduce more veggies in my diet. I cut out the sugars and sodas my first month and dropped 10 lbs. the hardest part getting started was training my stomach to stop being so reliant on carbs and sugars. Once I got past that it became a lot easier!
My doctor told me not to go low-carb and just count calories even though I was showing signs of insulin resistance. She also told me not to worry so much about building muscle or exercising because weight loss is 90% diet. I’m a 5’2 woman with PCOS and I was gaining weight eating 1200 calories a day, and going for a jog 3 times per week. I followed doctors orders despite this and ended up with nutrient deficiencies and ovarian cysts. My cortisol levels were also borderline too high. My doctor assumed I was lying about diet and exercise. I’m so glad I actually learned about endocrinology and nutrition in college enough that I could read into the latest research and eventually understand that my doctor’s advice was ridiculous. I needed to improve my sensitivity to insulin by taking inositols, building muscle, doing yoga, eating low carb, intermittent fasting, eating anti-inflammatory foods and managing stress. I can eat 1400-1600 calories per day and still be in a deficit now that my insulin resistance, vitamin deficiencies and inflammation are addressed. Work smarter before you work harder! And don’t assume your doctor is up-to-date on the latest research!
You probably were not actually eating 1200 calories. If you stay on deficit long enough all those benefits will come without doing all that nonsense. All you’ve done is increased activity and indirectly gone into a higher deficit. Changing the other patterns that you mentioned literally do nothing, if anything it does the opposite of balancing anything.
@@williamdiazsantos7418 In most definitely know how to count calories, I’ve been doing it my whole life with registered dietitians teaching me. I gained weight at that time because I put on lots of inflammatory fluid from The over exercise and hormonal imbalances, and my metabolism slowed down so much I was actually referred by my endocrinologist to be studied in a university lab. My BMR was only 1090 at the time. No offense but I’m going to trust literal scientists on this over you internet stranger. I was not able to lose fat without eating so little I developed nutrient deficiency. My hair was out in chunks, I was fainting regularly, I was deeply depressed and unable to focus, my nails were brittle, I looked like I was going through chemo. It’s not super common for cases to be this extreme but it does happen and people need to understand how to lose the weight by working with their body rather than against it. Why would I lose weight in a way that made me sicker and more miserable when I could just lose it in a way that made me healthier? My insulin and cortisol level are almost completely normal now and my BMR is closer to 1200, so as long as I’m active I can eat way more while still losing weight because of it. It’s a no-brainer.
You should have run for the hills when your Dr didn't say "lower your carb intake" How long is it going to take to get this in the zeitgeist Carbs are Sugar and you must lower your sugar intake to lose weight. This has been proven now for at least 20 years. Saturated fat is not the culprit! Sugar is!
@@williamdiazsantos7418it doesn't work since food and water are getting more and more modified with all sorts of chemicals causing our bodies to go crazy. Also kortizol is one hell of a demon it can literally block your whole metabolic system and you will either keep on losing weight you will start losing your hair and teeth skin will get ichy and dry or you can gain fat fast unable to lose a single pound no matter what.
Keto done properly and lean into Carnivore. It’s a way to drop insulin resistance and diabetes. Eat fats. Use them. Sugar and carbs and low fat diets make everything worse. Bloodwork doesn’t lie. I’ve improved in every metric.
Food addiction is also a real problem. Like, my friends dont understand that if I start eating potato chips or pizza, it's incredibly hard for me to stop. Thats why I'd rather just ignore what people are eating and try to eat my own healthier foods.
Yup, there are tons of meals that I can eat at a very specific portion, weighed out, and be very satisfied. But if a pizza is in my house, I basically can't stop eating it until it's gone. It's better to not have it around.
thats because of the shit they put in chips and food. They put additives that make you want more and crave more. Thats why its best to eat fresh, non processed foods
@@LoGiCcLaN2 I knew there had to be something in those foods other than they just taste better because some really don't, but I still find myself not being able to stop eating them. Thank you so much for sharing this!! Knowing this will change my life for sure. That is very empowering to know!!

probably about 15 pounds water weight, 7 pounds muscle, and only 3 pounds actual fat. Just an fyi, the body prefers to burn muscle mass instead of fat when people go super low calorie diets.
johnny j losing weigh is easy .... 1. Remove fast food. 2. Cut down sugar. 3. Add apple cider vinegar to water ( 15 ml ) daily .avoid if ulcer. Add lots of veggie and less white flour .

I was 330 at my highest, and all I can say to people who are overweight and who want to be a normal weight, it will likely be the toughest AND most rewarding thing you've ever done.
Just dont eat at night and stop eating rice spaghetti and bread... this is what works for me, when i want to cut i just dont have dinner, not easy but possible... harder if you dont have a job or something to do trough the day
I was 6"3 and 320. In January stopped eating shit, not eating after super, no carbs, limited sugars, and moderate to heavy weights 3-4 times a week, light cardio. Im down 70 pounds.
It really is the most rewarding thing you can ever do. I have lost 102 pounds since the start of my weight loss journey 9 months ago. I was 298 pounds. If you put in the work and stay consistent with it and just overall are living a healthier lifestyle, then you will see results. It all just takes time. Don't give up!
I weighed 500 pounds at my heaviest, i'm down to 280 now. Still pretty far off from being healthy.. but i think its a decent improvement in my overall health. Biggest thing is occupying my mind, boredom is my single greatest enemy in weight loss.
Some of us aren’t eating like crazy. After my hysterectomy, my thyroid stopped working correctly. There wasn’t a diagnostic test until I developed a goiter. During that time I gained 65 pounds. I have never had energy again like I used to. I gain weight every time my THC test is out of normal limits. It is awful to be a normal healthy weight to being fat. It is terrible on my self-esteem. There is no help if you don’t have diabetes or high blood pressure.
I am 5' 11" tall I was 320 lbs for many years. I went from 320 lbs to 185 lbs in less than a year (no carbs, not sugar no snacking after diner). Then I went to the gym and built 25 lbs of muscle. I am so happy for the huge prize I won. The prize of health, fitness and good looks. I feel amazing and can run, climb, go on roller-coasters, ride bikes, hike, buy nice clothes. I won a major prize by loosing weight and I owe it all to myself which feels amazing. I never looked back. That was in 2013 and I am still in shape today.
I eat all the carbs i want..ur brain needs it so does ur muscles...i get it when ur obese..but dont start with the carb thing when ur a bodybuilder etc
@@bradleyzum Umm the average person....(beginner) can build 25 lbs of muscle in around a year...beginners do it all the time....It plateues after that.....Schwarzenegger had quite a bit more than 25 lbs of muscle mass than he would have as a beginner....I dont know why you think this is unattainable..It is quite common in a bodybuilders early lifting advancement.....
Keep at it kid, you're at an age where you have a fast metabolism and with a healthy diet and some exercise, you'll lose the excessive fat in no time :)
If you’re watching this video and believe you can’t lose weight, I promise you, it is possible. I was 240 lbs back in April/May 2023, and in November 2023 I’m about 205. I started walking 3 miles per day before work, and started doing a small exercise while making dinner, whether it’s 100 push ups, 100 body weight squats, something like that. Find small gaps throughout your day that give you an opportunity to do something active, it’ll do wonders.
Butter Bob made a video called remembering the future. he was picturing what he wanted from life and kept watching it as he fasted and ate keto to encourage himself.
Well...its going but every year is a cycle, winter almost 90kg and by august im 80kg...3 years in a row now :D (Im 18 yo, 185cm - not really trying to loose weight but gain muscle, doing something wrong obviously)
@@piraat070 That's just your mentality. If you have weak mental it's hard to quit things. I drank soda everyday, at least 4 sodas a day, I am 24 and been drinking them since i was a kid. I realized what it can do to me long run i.e my teeth, weight. Next day I just quit soda and haven't had 1 in 6 months. If you really want something you will do it, simple.
What they say in the first 2 minutes is SO TRUE! A guy I went to college with lost like 50 pounds because instead of consuming 2500 calories in one meal once a day, he started consuming those 2500 calories in smaller meals over the course of the day. Gave him more energy during the day so he started doing more physical things like going on walks more. It’s so true that sometimes, overweight people are not eating an insane amount compared to others. Just eating incorrectly.
For me and many many thousands of others, eating once a day or eating in a small window of time has had the same effect. It is not wrong, and I am not saying eating many times a day is wrong. Although eating many times a day spikes your insulin many times a day which makes it harder to lose weight for many many people. I broke my back and gained tons of weight because of the inactivity. Went to intermittent fasting and cut way back on carbs and lost over 40 pounds while recovering and with zero exercise. Lost even more now that I can move. So there are many ways to lose weight and the intermittent fasting is just one large very proven method that works. It is just as important what you eat as to when you eat. 2,000 calories of high carbs can slam the weight on you much faster than 2,000 calories of healthy fats and low carbs. Calories are not all alike.
Obese people who claim to eat one big meal a day don't just eat that one meal. You see this on weight loss reality shows all the time. They are snacking all day long and drinking sugary drinks. It's just another form of denial.
@Joshua Sipple You should watch his video where he talks about the art of conversations. And how we lost it. Even guys like Neil deGrasse Tyson suck at it.
If he explained it so everyone would understand he wouldn’t have a business lol. All he said is people who are losing weight need to cut down on anything that makes them produce large quantities of insulin which promotes fat storage
I like how joe just sits there and listens and doesn’t not interrupt him at any moment. He always gives his guests the opportunity to express their opinion no matter if he agrees with them or not.
He talked over a lot of guest, usually he gets distracted by others in the studio. Notice when he shuts up it’s because Bravonand others aren’t there. Get the wrong person in the room interviews like this never go well.
Fat doesn't go away. It just shrinks. This is why its so easy to blow em up again. Other fact, fat leaves our body in Carbon Dioxide. Through oxidation. Yep. By breathing. This is why excercise is vital! The water retention is lost through urination & sweating.
Exercise is vital because without it you will lose muscle mass which will slow down your metabolism to the point you will no longer be in a calorie deficit.
Intermittent fasting, eating mainly protein and vegetables, and working out 2-4 times a week will get you in good shape. Also avoid sugar, fast food and processed foods.
I've been looking into intermittent fasting... wouldn't the healthy diet of protein/veg, no processed food work on its own? I don't understand the reasoning for doing it although I'm very interested.
@@caliv0608 It could work, but way faster with the hormonal effects of intermittent fasting. HGH and insulin sensitivity especially. I do wonder if eating frequently is fine as long as your lover never really fills up, which if I'm right means not much insulin would be needed. Basically don't eat a big handful of nuts late at night (healthy, but calories so your liver will never empty) and skip breakfast or have it late/early lunch, and you'll be rocking.
Never was a fan of intermittent fasting unless it fits your lifestyle and you like to do that. I could be wrong though. I think calorie deficit with 4-6 small meals a day could be more beneficial, and you'll probably feel better throughout the day. But if 1 big meal a day fits your life, then fasting is probably the best thing to do.
@@LucianoOGgt I just don't think it's natural to eat so many times every day. Do hunters/ people long ago eat 6 small meals? 2 or 3, and once a week 0 might be ideal. I think our bodies aren't set up for food so frequently and never go into autophagy without breaks. The benefits of autophagy are undeniable imo.
@@phantomfire7205 it depends on height and body composition as well. 180lbs at 6ft (185cm) is good on paper but if you're carrying a high amount of adipose/fat it would paint a different picture.
I remember working security with this guy who was about 430. He was dispatch and would drink a 2liter coke, eat lunch and snacks throughout the shift. He got a crush on a co-worker and she worked out with and coached him through it. Dude is now 180 and stuck in the friend zone but damn what a journey. He said for lunch he would go to White Castle and get a 10pc Moz sticks. 4 burgers, fries and drink. When he started counting calories he had no idea that one meal was almost his daily intake. The 10pc alone was over 1000 calories. I need to step up myself I'm close to 300 now. I should probably give him a call.
@Rhaegar Nope, she became a police officer so she's getting banged out by other officers and he is still her best friend. He's most likely going to sit idly by until she is ready to settle down.
That’s another thing people don’t understand. The amount of food that people actually consume in a caloric sense is so much higher than they think. When you go to McDonalds one burger is or above 1000 calories. Then you eat a second and fries and a coke. That shit adds up. Lastly when you eat healthier you feel better. I used to feel sluggish after I ate. I was constantly napping after meals. Not anymore. Also don’t eat past like 7:30 - 8 if you can.
I’m 6’4 and at 305 right now and trying to accomplish the same goal Just started my first week of hard intermittent fasting and keto diet with 8 hour food window , and doing a lot of H I I T workout 3 days weekly and lots of yoga and calisthenics and so far I haven’t felt more sore or more better in a long time Sedimentary lifestyle, inconsistent diet and exercise schedule, letting stress control job All caused me to balloon Fasting and exercise immediately can re train your mind and rekindle your spirit quickly if you can get over that first 20 to 24 hour hump of the first fast

@@jasmines.6325 The first year of weight loss the only thing I did was cutting thr pasta, the bread and the rice completely out of my diet. I never liked sodas so that wasn't a problem. But I did occasionally ate sweets. I changed nothing else in that first year. I drop only 20 lbs. So that wasn't enough. So I completely changed my diet to more veggies and less meats. A LOT of veggies. That's when the change really kicked in. Then after I lost about 50 or 60 lbs then I started incorporating exercises. Now I have been at 162lbs and keeping it there.

I started at 314 lbs and I didn't really feel that bad, I had my friends and family who loved me and I was known as funny big brother. and then one day my younger brother wanted my help on a math problem. he's on the second floor of my house. by the time I got up the stairs I had a tight shortness of breath. I started seeing spots and I had to take a breather. I am supposed to be the example and I was being weak. so I finally bought a scale and every day I jogged as far as I could and walk back. I only drank water and only ate once my stomach really growled. it's been about 5 months and I'm down to 246 lbs. it was hard and my shins hurt and my stomach never growled much but It's been progress. I do feel better and stairs don't scare me as they used to but the reason I did it was so I could keep being the funny big brother and not the dead big brother in 15,10 or 5 years. I know it's gonna be a life struggle but you gotta do it for yourself and the people that love you. do it for them man.
Very inspirational! have you ever heard of hiit training? it worked wonders for me. Andd a faster way to lose weight in a shorter amount of time. All it took was 20 mins a day. I reccomend it for anyone trying to lose weight.
Read Dr.Atkins book titled Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. He explains ketosis and low carb dieting very thoroughly in this book, it's so easy to understand. Its the book my dad followed to loose 275 lb in a year and 2 months. He kept with low carb eating, he ate all the meat and fat he wanted and got healthy. He started with zero carbs and no caffeine for a week to get the body into the state of ketosis. He used Keto Sticks they are urine test strips. After the first week he gradually added more carbs but not exceeding 40 grams of carbs per day through out his weight loss journey. If the body is in the state of ketosis it can not store fat it can only shed fat and other toxic weight so he ate all the fat and calories he wanted to keep himself satisfied while ketosing. There is no need to count calories as long as you are keeping your carb intake low enough to keep you ketosing. Forty grams of carbs per day is a recommended limit to keep the body in the state of ketosis. If you have a cheat day or cheat meal your body may stop ketosing because of overconsumption of carbs so all you have to do after a cheat day is start over by eating zero carbs and no caffeine for a week to get yourself back into a nice deep ketosis. Caffeine spikes insulin thus slowing weighloss so some people restrict it completely even after the first week to avoid slowed weightloss. Eating fat , especially rich animal fats , while ketosing causes the body to ketose more heavily, provides energy, satisfies appetite healthily, lubricates intestines , eyes and skin and is crucial for organ function including the brain. Animal meats should not be restricted either they are too important for replenishing the muscles and organs. Also, no colon cleansers are needed on a diet that causes the body to ketose, in fact it can be detrimental. I made that mistake and almost killed my kidneys it hurt so bad so I quit colon cleansers while keto dieting and I felt so much better. Ketosis causes the body to naturally cleanse itself including the colon. The body works hard enough while ketosing to shed weight on its own. There are veggies allowed in the first week about 1 cup per day they are practically zero carb. They are listed in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book. He also wrote a book giving carb count content of many foods to help you stay on track. I've read both of these books. Keto Sticks are urine test strips. Test every day. If your test shows pink/purple color it means you're ketosing. The darker the pink/purple color means the heavier you're ketosing meaning the faster you are loosing weight. If your test shows no pink/purple color it means you are not ketosing not loosing weight but gaining weight so you have to keep eating zero carbs and no caffeine until pink/purple color shows on your test. Eating practically zero carbs for a week should get your body into deep ketosis. Sorry to repeat myself but I hope this info helps people loose weight fast like my dad did. I don't rely on the Atkins foods for weightloss though because I don't like the sweeteners and other ingredients in alot of them. I mostly eat meat, fat, low carb veggies and low carb fruit ,nuts not so many cashews, unlimited butter, full fat sour cream and mayo. I pray you understand it completely in Jesus' name. God's blessings to ya! 😉

I'm a medical student who recently learned about everything he just talked about. The thing I've realized as a medical student is you don't need to be a medical student to understand this stuff (at least with wikipedia on hand). Just need to sit down (with some good learning material...like my favorite go to source, wikipedia) and work it out. I used to be critical of morbidly obese people, but now I am starting to realize staying a healthy weight and body composition is much more difficult for some people They didn't go into how our brains are wired. In our hypothalamus we have what is called the lateral nucleus that makes us hungry and the ventromedial nucleus which makes us not hungry. If either one of those is destroyed (as happens sometimes in a stroke) the affected individual will feel either extreme hunger or no hunger at all. These nuclei are in turn stimulated or inhibited by ghrelin (makes you hungry) and leptin (makes you full). No person's brain is the same, so it's a given people will differ in how much hunger they feel. I for example AM ALWAYS HUNGRY. Two of my uncles were morbidly obese and died from that (one at 48 yrs and the other at 55 yrs). Most of my family members are obese. I used to be obese. I had grown up with all this bullshit advice that "you need to eat breakfast to be healthy" and eat well so your brain can function. Bullshit. Out brains do just fine using ketone bodies (from fat) instead of glucose (sugar) for energy (unless we are diabetic (don't produce enough/any insulin) as explained in the youtube clip). Anyways, I lost 40 pounds in a year and now my BMI is 24 (down from 30) and am very healthy. However I am ALWAYS HUNGRY. I can eat two gallons of ice cream in a day and still be hungry. How did I bring my weight to a healthy weight? =>By restricting my calorie intake through intermittent fasting (I eat 1-2 times a day and sometimes don't eat at all some days). Does that mean I am not hungry? No, far from it. So please, if its not hard for you to keep off weight don't judge those who do struggle. It may be a 100x harder for them to not eat. That said, if you are like me (always hungry) accept that you have to have some mild hunger most of the time in order to not become obese. Nothing is wrong with you, it's just that your ancestors must have evolved an overactive lateral nucleus in your hypothalamus in order to not have starved to death (hunger can be a powerful motivator in pushing a person or animal to get food). That's my theory anyway.
@@shawnreed7876 Hunger signals or not, it's all about eating healthy. You know what I do when I'm hungry? I eat meat or nuts or ANYTHING without sugar. You said yourself at one point you could have eaten 2 gallons of ice cream and still be hungry... Why would you choose to eat ice cream when you're hungry and expect not to be fat? Morbidly obese people eat like shit. It IS their fault that they're in the state they're in.
@@ohlord3650 Exactly. Ice cream has too many calories. By consuming too many calories one becomes fat. In my case if I am to remain "unhungry" I become fat. Once I embraced hunger I came down to a healthy weight.
I knew one personal trainer who had one non-negotiable rule. He was asking his clients if they were willing to change their eating habits by eating cleaner and healthier and in the beginning, even go with stricter diet. If they weren’t willing to change their diet, he wasn’t accepting those customers, even if they wanted to pay a lot of money. He knew how important of a role the food played in achieving results.
That's actually a good business move on his part as well. Those clients that were willing to change their diet on average lost so much more weight compared to their counter parts that weren't willing. That made him look like a more competent trainer & made him more attractive to new clients. The long game at it's finest.
Right?! He was truly learning, listening in deep and I feel he's still hurt about his friend's passing away. You can tell he was concerned tho. 💚 Love Joe. RIP to his dear friend 💙.
In 1980, people probably didn’t sit around and watch RU-vid. This is especially true for children, who make up a large portion of that increased percentage. Kids played outside and learned to be active. They didn’t have to have their parents helicopter over them the whole time either. It was normal to see groups of kids riding bikes together or playing games. Now with the 24-hour new cycle, everyone is paranoid that the streets are infested with perverts and child predators. These days, if you let your kids walk to the park by themselves, you are a bad parent. Better to let them play video games inside where it’s “safe”.
in 2022, if you want start a real fight, just say people are fat because they eat too much calories…it way much more dangerous than politics or religion…lost some friends ( the worst are the mother of fat kid, they cannot accept that fact without going bananas, like you judge theirs kids) The business succedd to paint who say that physics thruths as judmental
I’m 6’7” - 260lbs (200cm - 18.5 stone) and considered obese by the BMI while everyone in my life says I’m too skinny. 🤷♂️ Maybe the definition is skewed ignoring the increasing height of people?
My husband lost 122lbs. He’s a physician and honestly what I learned is doctors don’t get nutritional training in medical school. He finally agreed high protein, adding healthy fats, low carbs and building muscle was the magic.
My doctor didn't believe in low carb diet until I lost 45 lbs making my metabolic panel perfect and a 25 BMI, that was 5 years ago. I have been weightlifting for two years and am a much higher BMI, but overall healthier because of the increased muscle mass.
@@SAMSARALIVEEEEEE not really, you just have to buy nutritious 1 ingredient foods. Even if it still cost more then junk it cost less in terms of medical surgeries.
How long was the process over time for you? I'm working on getting rid of all processed foods and sugar in general. Water tastes so much better after 3 weeks of no sugar.
@The Barbell Back Squat yeah I was like what a load of horse**** the entire video. Its simple as a cake. If you do not put enough fuel into your car to last you 100 miles you wont make it to your destination youre going to have to refuel. And if you eat 2000 calories but need 2500 for a day youre going to have to get the additional 500 from your body fat to get you through, its that simple. His clients are lying to him about what they eat or hes lying to us to make us feel like theres nothing we can do to lose wieght so he can sell his program to us.
Speaking for myself, it's because I was addicted to sugar. Once I started shopping for better food and eliminating processed foods and other sources of sugar and excess salt, my body started running on fat like it is supposed to and not carbs. I am not a ripped dude like Joe, but I am fit now, about to turn 50, and am in better shape than I was at 30. It is all about getting the nutrients our bodies were designed to use. Sugar is the worst.
same here! I quit all sugary drinks. I don't even drink the alternative sugar stuff like coke zero. I grab unsweetened ice tea at fast food restaurants to cheat my brain into thinking I'm grabbing a sugary drink when I'm there. After the 3 or 4 month mark of no sugary drinks, I noticed all cravings for other sugary treats ended. I was able to think much clearer and I noticed will power returned. From then on, I started making healthier eating choices. I started cooking healthier meals and added fruit and vegetables to each meal. I didn't even realize the weight was coming off. I was just happy that I was feeling better and eating better. A year later, I lost 60 lbs and didn't realize it was gone until I looked in the mirror one day.
@@theclaybeartravels3596 Yes! Once my body fat started melting away it went really fast. And the clear mind and overall feeling of health also happened to me! I lost 50 pound in about 4 months. It's amazing how well your body works when you feed it properly! Good on you! Congrats! Well done!
I have always been a healthy weight of 125 pounds. However, over the past couple of years, I gained 35 pounds, despite moderate exercise 5 days a week. I couldn’t lose the weight but maintaining. I made a decision to change my diet to healthy proteins, low carb foods, no alcohol or processed foods. I lost the 35 pounds within 9 months. Super proud of myself and feel amazing. Good health to all!
You can do it man! At first its hard because of the sugar cravings and the constant hunger. I followed a keto diet for a year now and hunger is no longer an issue. I crave fat and salt and I eat it, but no carbs.
In that video he mentioned how insulin is the key hormone. There is a doctor who has treated about 1000 severly overweigh patients and none of them have needed surgery to remove excess skin when finished. Here is the two websites heaps of FREE and usefull information www.dietdoctor.com/ and idmprogram.com/ There is heaps on youtube search dr jason fung.. The key is intermittent fasting . The reason is becasue insulin is the energy storage hormone. Every meal lifts insulin. Making it hard to loose weight. If you eat 3 times a day and cut carbs as well. Becasue insulin gets a regular lift, 2 things happen 1 you loose weight 2 your metbolism also slows down. 2 is bad long term.. Where if you do intermittent fasting, your insulin drops, its easier to use fat and so your metabolism does NOT slow down. Also your body will breakdown the excess skin as you shrink. Also you can do intermittent fasting even if you cant exercise. Check with your doctor if you are on medication especially any disbeties medicine. This is really important some diabeties medicines will make you severly sick if you fast. Its working really well for me. I hope this really helps.
Try o.m.a.d diet I've been doing it a month and have lost nearly a stone\14 pounds and that's without serious exercise bar walking 5- 10 miles a day. Mostly about 5.
He's a MD & he's been doing research for a long time on insulin, diabetes, and weight loss. He even did a Ted talk (highly recommended btw). So ya, you of say he's done his homework.
I weighed 310 lbs with a big 6'2" frame, not in shape, overweight by at least 90 lbs, and didn't really care until the day I couldn't keep up with my twin children aged 9. I'm now 210 lbs, probably still have another 10 lbs to go, but can keep up with my 11 year old kids just fine, and I'm 49 years old. How'd I lose all that weight you probably didn't ask but I'm going to pretend like you did? I stopped drinking so much fucking soda. It wasn't easy, apparently I had quite the addiction. But yeah, down to one soda or less per day. I feel light, like I could jump through the ceiling. Maybe I'll try that next.
You know I actually have a cousin who said soda is one of the big things stopping people from being healthy. She’s not an expert or anything but I find it interesting that she stated that and in a lot of weight loss stories I’ve heard, soda seems to play a bigger role than you’d think.
Chuck Stevens when you look at soda it’s one of those extremely unhealthy carbs that is not but fatty and unhealthy sugars and weight added to your body. Cut your soda intake in half and up your water intake by times 2 or 3 with some physical activity in its and you’ll feel a lot better
In the past one to two years I’ve gone down to 190lbs from 360lbs. I didn’t want to lose weight, I have and failed in the past, I knew I had to change my lifestyle as a whole. For as long as I can remember, say around 3 years old I have been overweight (I’m 20 now) and it’s taken a huge toll on me obviously physically, but greater mentally and emotionally (suffered from severe depression, my weight play a large part). The first four months of my journey I started drinking more water, attempting on doing pushups and intermittent fasting every day (16/8), just being healthier. I lost a good chunk of weight though I cannot recall the exact amount (literally never checked the scale), I was impressed with the results but not content. I began to incorporate walking every day into my daily routine along with squats and planks. I became a lot less frequent in fasting but started eating better generally and being more cautious of what I consumed. It is insane, nowadays I look at what people eat, stuff I used to eat, and am baffled knowing how bad particular foods are for your body. It should be a crime of how unaware people are of the shit being consumed on a regular daily basis. These foods have been stapled apart of our lives in the media and made so normalized that most struggle to or can’t even comprehend the vastness of the problem. Continuing with my weight loss, for the past 8 months (COVID inspired me to work harder) I have been weight training, walking, doing yoga, and HITT workouts in my weekly routines; along with drinking lots of water and eating whole foods rather than the junk, I used to consume. I feel so healthy now physically and am a lot more stable mentally and emotionally. Though the work I put in physically made a massive difference, I strongly believe the changes I made nutritiously played a larger part in my journey. I never ate THAT much, but what I’d eat was literal garbage, whether it be granola bars/sugary snacks, big portions of refined carbs, and just other processed foods I didn’t know were so bad for me. When looking back on my journey I am so proud of what I’ve accomplished and learned so many things I will incorporate into my lifestyle in the span of my life. I encourage everyone who made it this far in this post to truly analyze what you do and make healthy changes to your lifestyle (eating better, working. The feeling of wellness you will receive is unbelievable and something I wish everyone could witness and live by. The foods I used to be addicted to, whether fast food or refined carb or sugar foods mentioned above I do not even think of having today. Knowing how bad they actually are for me disgusts me and I don’t miss them. I went from being a morbidly obese, depressed person that never thought what I have done would be possible. I decided to make a change in my life and slowly saw changes that motivated me more. Amidst my journey, I inspired my younger brother to lose weight to which he lost 60lbs. I have changed my life and don’t ever see myself going back to what I once was. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you are going through, you must be the change you want to see. Whether it be losing weight or breaking a bad habit it all starts with you. Change doesn’t happen overnight; it is something you have to live by. You don’t just eat well for a month and expect to be healthy forever, you have got to make it a lifestyle. Each and every one of us has the power to make a change, big or small, and by being courageous and pushing through the hardships of what life throws at us you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Your abilities as a human being are endless, respect, embrace and love the individuality you contain as a being. Be healthy and live happily. Don't take shit from anyone live your best life, stay blessed! (this was way longer of a post I thought it was gonna be, I never write comments idk what came over me 😂😂)
I set a goal of losing ideally 40 lbs but realistically 20 lbs at the beginning of summer and now at the end I'm down 36, from 364 to 328. I'm hoping for 315 by the end of the year. Most people lose weight easier in warmer weather but I'm the opposite as I struggle with sweet drinks to help with the heat, and replace it with unsweetened tea in cold weather. So I'm hopeful! My end goal is to be 220 in 4-5 years. I have a broad frame and I am some what taller so a somewhat muscular 220 would be a good weight for me, not looking to be in model shape, I'm in my mid thirties and have been hit by to many injuries and illnesses to delude myself with that being realistic for me. A stocky build is doable and vastly better than I am now. Replacing pasta with unprocessed grains and potatoes, way upping my fat intake, focusing on protein and reducing carbs to a realistic degree.
What a fantastic conversation, I learnt so much in a few minutes. The cortisol is the most interesting to me because I was working in a high stress work environment and really struggling with food intake and weight gain. I decided last year to quit and burn through some savings for a while to focus on my health (I know I'm lucky to be able to do that). I'm now in the gym 5 times a week, fat and inches coming off slowly and healthily and I'm feeling very strong, both mentally and physically. Stress and burnout are killers, look after yourselves!
Yeah your right I do.shift work long hours and high stress never been so heavy looking at training for another job in another industry to sort my health out
I'm going through a burnout right now, after the pandemic and stuff. I also decided to take a 3 month unpaid leave from work to focus on my health as I'm obese. Any advice? Will be starting out in June
@@griseld Eat 2 meals a day. Intermittent fast. Really watch your carb intake. Limit yourself to mostly whole foods. You should be at a pretty significant caloric deficit. Listen to your body, but not to your cravings. If you don't feel like eating, don't force yourself to - some days, you can choose to not eat anything, or just have one meal. Your cravings should go away pretty good if you stick to intermittent fasting. Do cardio that makes you sweat (I'd start with elliptical since it's lower impact and gets you breathing heavy) and mobility exercises or yoga that improve flexibility and a little strength - you can mix in LIGHT strength training later on in the weight loss process. Most important - make SURE you're not overtraining. If you feel like your body needs to recover, then rest. You will make a lot of progress in the recovery process, even without doing anything. Try to get outside more, if the weather is nice. Go for quick walks. I've yo-yo'd a bit, but ultimately ended up losing 70 lbs. Went from 240 to 170, all in less than half a year.
I’d highly recommend swimming to anyone struggling to lose weight. I dropped 80lbs in 2019 by swimming and implementing intermittent fasting. It’s difficult at first, but you’ll adjust and get comfortable with it after a while. The only way to really change is to get comfortable with discomfort, until your mind can adapt to your new habits.
Lifestyle change all the way! Easy? No. But you CAN do it! Start slow, make minor changes eg cut soda, cook your own meals. Exercise for 15 min daily and increase every week by 5 min. Fasting from 6pm to 6am works well for me. I'm now at a healthy weight, look and feels great and totally committed to this new lifestyle! OK, I'm waiting for the 101 excuses...
i really want to join a gym after a year of doing home calisthenics and losing nearly 55lbs...but in my province they keep all the Recreational areas, pools and gyms too, closed for this pandemic....
I wish I had access to a pool. I'm borderline disabled so that kind of low impact exercise would be great and I used to love to swim when I lived near the ocean as a younger man.
Awesome Job! I dropped 50 pounds of pure fat and was left with a muscular body. If I can do it you can do it! If your a man especially a Dad you should go checkout the fitness coach that helped me accomplish this: facebook.com/mills.mills.58760/
I gained a lot of weight in my twenties, and started to find myself on the track of becoming obese. I finally found the motivation and drive to start really working hard to change. Down 65lbs so far, and only more and more motivated and determined to keep going!
Mohamad Moustafa I started power walking every day. I started going to the gym (worked my way up to going at least 6 days a week). Also got back into doing a lot of yoga. I started trying to be more careful with what I ate (I have a powerful sweet tooth) so I gave up a lot of sweets, and practically all sugary drinks, especially soda. My job also requires me to walk/run around most of my shift, so that was helpful too. And honestly, I just started spending a lot of time outside. Had friends that would go play sports or go hiking with me. But two key things that are really challenging for me, but I’ve been working hard on and have been improving my weight loss immensely, is getting better sleep and giving up most dairy. Not all dairy, but most dairy products I try to stay away from. At first, it felt like I wasn’t making much progress very quickly. But I was incredibly fortunate to have friends around me who encouraged me and pushed me to keep with it. My best friend basically took over as my personal trainer. 😂 But I kept pushing, and didn’t try to tackle all of these changes at once. I basically tackled one change every two weeks, and went from there. Sorry for the long reply.
@Galen Joyce it depends on who you marry. I did divorce the first one. She asked me How do I know that I want a divorce ? I said When I go to sleep every night I pray to God that I die rather than wake up next to you. The second wife is totally different and we’ve been together 18 years.
I love this. I have been reading about all of this for over two years now, and this dude just broke it down in 7 minutes. This information is PURE GOLD!
When I was in the military, working out every day including running a minimum of 4-6 miles a day, something in my body changed very quick and I started gaining weight out of control; to the point I went from 160 to little over 200 pounds in a matter of months. Eventually, I lost my career over it. I never figured out why because the Army wasn't interested in checking my system to figure out why I gained weight that quickly. My battalion commander, who was a true infantryman and who was aware how hard I was working out and not losing any weight pleaded with me to stay in the military and promised me his support if I would decide to fight my discharge. Emotionally, I was destroyed for losing my childhood dream of being a soldier for life. I haven't shared this story with many because it pretty much always ends the same way. You can imagine which way that is.
I experienced the exact same thing as an infantryman in the Army. I got chaptered and it has been the biggest disappointment in my life. I hated the army, but man when I left the Schofield barracks gate I felt like the biggest loser ever.
At one point I was 22, depressed, my gf was cheating on me and I also weighed 230 pounds at 5ft10. My BMI put me in the obese category. The best happened when that relationship ended, in the space of about 4 months I had lost 65 pounds (down to 165 pounds) and I have been around that weight ever since. I didn't have a gym membership and focused purely on diet and some strength exercises (pushups and pull ups). The main thing that helped was being religious with counting calories, substituting bad foods with healthier ones and meditating. It's tough at the start, then finally you get momentum and everything begins to fall in place. Whoever is out there facing a similar battle just remember that everyone wants you to be the best you can be and we all have your back.
@Toori Baba In my experience, isn't the place where you lose weight. The only way proven way to lose weight is to track your calories (huge correlation shown on this in multiple studies). The gym is a tool to make you healthy, but not somewhere to lose weight.
Might wanna change tour BMI too with lifting. I’m 5’9 at 220 about 10-15 pounds of fat away from abs. 5’10 weighing 165 is pretty light, I’d personally recommend lifting/calisthenics for growth now that you’ve lost the weight.
people make fun on fat people, but no one ever considers that some people just have really bad genetics when it comes to being fat. My genetics are very good when it comes to weight, I eat a lot and I’m still in very good shape… I know other people who do a tone of dieting and exercise and they literally count the calories they consume, but still they are overweight. genetics play a HUGE part
the genetics don't make you fat, the excess calories make you fat. If you are in calorie deficit you will lose weight. The people who aren't losing are lying to themselves about their calorie intake.
This so true. My roommate is 235lbs. Says she cant lose weight. She never walks anywhere. Only eats once a day but drinks Pepsi alot which raises insulin for 3 days so it maintains her fat levels. She feeding the fat cells
People forget that a person can very quickly drink their calories. So if she's drinking a lot of Pepsi she's not only raising insulin but simultaneously drinking hundreds of calories... which can quickly equal out to more than one meal
First of all ''she never walks anywhere''. Second eating only once a day means nothing, you could be eating a pizza and a slice of cheese cake and that would put you at about 3.000 calories. And third Pepsi is literally sugar in a bottle, sugar has calories and its easy to drink your way into a calorie surplus throught the day. That's why she maintains her fat levels.
@@PikaJayden no it’s not lol. The only way you maintain weight is eating the same amount of calories your body burns. If she ate under her TDEE she’d lose weight regardless of insulin levels.
“They are not disproportionately eating more than their peers”. Sir, yes they are. I don’t understand how we constantly feel the need to over complicate weight gain or fat loss. It’s simple: you eat more calories than you burn, you gain weight. Do the opposite and you lose weight. That’s literally how it works. Sure, some metabolisms are slower than others, but that doesn’t change the formula. It just means you need to adjust your eating pattern to match your metabolism.
I'm a skinny dude (ectomorph body type). I eat whatever the hell I want, and I never gain weight. I remember back in high school, we calculated our body fat percentage, and our exercise science teacher said he hasn't seen one as low as mine. I always ate well, but I would have to eat a LOT of calories every day to gain body fat. If someone is an endomorph body type, they will store energy as fat, rather than burn it off. This is what the guy in the video is talking about. They don't eat more food than me, it's just that their metabolic rate is much lower, so what they don't burn off in exercise gets stored. It is important for people to understand their metabolic rate early on, and adapt their lifestyle to it.
I’m literally eating a pack of custard creams while watching this video. Today all I have had Is 2 packets of chrisps and 2 packets of buiscuits. (Don’t worry I normally do eat pretty healthy)
I was 319 lbs and decided it was time to lose weight. First I changed my diet. Less carbs and sugars and no processed foods. Then I started counting calories. I didn’t lose weight unless I ate less than a thousand calories a day. I imagine it’s different for everyone. It took me two and a half years and I lost 165 lbs. that was 8 years ago. I’m still skinny and I work out now and am in good shape.
