Joe Satriani plays "Ice-9" and begining a guitar battle with Mike Keneally. Hellfest, Clisson (France), June 18, 2016. Band: Joe Satriani - Guitar Mike Keneally - Keyboards And Guitar Bryan Beller - Bass Marco Minnmeann - Drums
Rhythm guitarist is the amazing Mike Keneally. Mike has played around San Diego for decades and, in fact, once reviewed music for a local magazine called The Reader. At the time Mike was onboard (30yrs ago!) I released a humble singer-songwriter cassette that got to his table and he gave me some very kind words. Mr Keneally is just as amazing on keys as he is on guitar and he's EASILY the finest guitarist to ever come out of San Diego- hands down, period . . .
I've been playing guitar for 45years. I've listened to Jimi, Eddie, santana and everybody who is great. Joe pretty much picks up where I think Jimi Hendrix left off. God bless you Joe and get back to your roots. You are a living legend. Peace.
Fun fact: the day Hendrix died, Joe got the news and immediately quit football at school telling his coach he was gonna dedicate his life to playing guitar
I've seen Satriani 3 times, and I plan to see him again when he tours with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, and Jason Bonham! Truly get to see 4 heavyweights at the same time!
Especially the last section. The ride cymbal is independent to the snare like a polyrhythm of some kind. So cool. You can see Joe and Mike acknowledge it right afterwards.
I love how everyone in this band has the "super musician" aura instead of just Joe. Clothes and colours do help realizing how legendary all the guys on stage are
Satriani and Vai ( although obviously Vai is absent here )...such stage presence and flair with a mastery of so many guitar music styles and techniques - I just can't help but be mesmerized by their playing...BRAVO and thanks for posting this gem !!
I can never stop watching this video when it pops up in my feed. OMG they are all so good and tight as hell!!!!!!! Inspires me as a player. So glad I've seen Joe live a few times.
Amazing performance. I saw him with this band, it's wonderful to have 2/3 of "The Aristocrats" and "the amazing Mike Keneally" onstage. Marco Minnemann is a monster on the drums! PS. It really dazzles me to be the first comment on such amazing video!
Nazmo King he played with Zappa back in the 70’s and toured with Vai in the 90s. Phenomenal musician. He has a bunch of solo stuff out, but before warned; a lot of it is kinda avant-garde and very bizarre. Lol
Never really listened to this guy, but dang it sounds like he really absorbed some jimi Hendrix quirks in his soloing theres no way he isn't a massive jimi fan. I like it
Joe was a drummer up until September 18th 1970, and a guitarist from that afterwards. He's unashamedly a massive Hendrix fan (and loves a bit of the Jeff Beck too).
@@ThePepitothepew used to jam with Marco when he’d stop in a little bar in Temecula and we were doing acoustic open mic night! We always had a fun time! He played so hard he put a hole in my friend Jeremy’s Cajon! lol😅
Great to see the respect gives by Hellfest'organisation to one of the best guitarist ever ...not a battle but a jam between 2 artists ...Competition is for suckers ...; at 75 years old , joe will always bust off the scene when young clowns will have already retire .....
Joe taught Steve Vai amongst other greats, he's the monster of all monsters in tone, taste and style, in concert is even tastier than studio endeavors, GIANT
