How in the fuck is it possible for one human being to know so much about all aspects of the guitar without forgetting some of it along the way... this is incredible to watch i tell yah.
Chris Woodward i was very nervous meeting him... when i approached him he picked up on it right away and he started to ask questions about the guitar i brought in for him to sign... i started babbling on and then later i realized... that was his way of easing my tension... he is an amazing person and as down to earth an humble as you could ever hope someone like Joe would be... not even a hint of rock star douche bag in him.
These Hendrix videos are making me reflect on what I learned from Jimi Henrix. 1. I'll never come close to the talent of Jimi. 2. How to strive for freely shifting from rhythm to lead :D The second lesson is far more inspiring.
"How to strive for freely shifting from rythm to lead" You are right and it is very difficult to get close to that. Almost impossible. I reccomend you to use mute notes and learn the original versions and not imitations. You have to learn a lot of Hendrix songs to understand how to do that. Also play scale patterns instead of modern cencepts such as scales, arpegios...etc In fact it is possible to make an hybrid method but you would have to avoid many things to get close to Jimi.
Joe Satriani is by far one of the Best guitarist/musicians ever! True master....one of my Top five favorite guitarists. I've seen him 3 times and he was just amazing. He can just Tear it up....and never miss a lick!
Been listening to Jimi since the sixties, and back then it was rare to complement his rhythm playing, and i always wondered why. He was the best of the best, and always conveyed a special feeling and mood!
Came here from the Rick Beato interview, which referenced Hendrix. This just knocks me over - not the actual music (he's not playing any song) but the fact he gets to the essence of Hendrix's music like I've never heard since 1969, live. Thanks.
I am a drummer and I love this. I also know Joe is a master teacher performer producer etc with the HIGHEST regards For Hendrix and his body of work. Joe continues to show many music types the way and takes care of himself to always perform and teach his best. I love his tones and he would be the first to describe the sounds he chooses to teach over Jimi's style and sound...so pro. That is why drummers are here. Listening...learning. I think JH and JS would be great buds.
Wow brilliant, my all time favorite guitarist. Satch's book "Guitar Secrets" taught me a great deal. I usually don't comment on youtube. This time I couldn't resist.
OBW ...saw Joe and the boys live ... Surfin with the alien tour.Incredible...Stuart Ham...and was it Jonathan Mover?Dont need to go to a concert ever...Thanks Satch...
Man I love this!!! This is the part of Jimi that I love most! I dig the feedback and the colorful fuzzy stuff, but this is what made all of that as intense as it was when he went from this to the real hard stuff. But Satch is one bad dude as well!!! And very down to earth. Well he was when I met him back in the 90's.
I was thinking about all the great names that were Joe's students. I wondered what it would be like to be a student of his. This video made me realize that I AM a student of his. The sincerity he has is amazing.
I have been stealing from Joe since the mid 80's. Floored me with his second album "Surfing...". so I got "Not of..." as well. It is the standard of guitar I strive for, but always fall short. In process always become a better guitarist over the years.
i noticed something totally unheard of on youtube, where are all the assholes and their negative comments, how refreshing, at least for once, that negativity is not here, besides, playing the guitar is the greatest gift you can give yourself, and people like satch just make me wanna play more; thank you so much joe, total inspiration.
Learning to play an instrument is an incredible gift a parent can give a child. Or a friend can give to someone who does not play. It is an entrance to a whole world. It is a wonderful thing.
Can anyone tell me how to get this kind of tone? I know this isn't the classic Jimi strat tone, but still, I like it in itself. Just the basics of what sort of pedals/amps, gain etc, in software (e.g. Garageband) or hardware.
Joe can play any style well. He's just crazy talented. Not to be a wet blanket or anything, but that guitar and that pickup and that amp don't do the Jimi strat sound well. At all. Agree with Andrelix67 - turning down the gain a bit would have helped. Joe likely has an endorsement where he doesn't play other brands in videos so I totally get it. But this video is an extremely effective demo of the wrong guitar and amp combination for the style.
If someone with Hendrix’s mind was born today, just think of how amazing he’d sound with absolutely no limitations on how the guitar can be with today’s effects and midi samples.
Okay....about three months ago, I went to my guitar teacher and said, "Hey, I'd like to study Jimi Hendrix's rhythm guitar technique!" While I guess it's nice to set a high bar for yourself, watching this it's occurred to me that the bar should still be low enough to see, LOL Satch makes this look sooooooo easy (but there's a reason why he was the best teacher in the Bay area and at least three of his students went on to become major rock stars in their own right)...maybe I'll stick to my death metal power chords....
