this is a sign of an excellent teacher, one who not only enjoys sharing what he has learned, but seeing other learn what has been taught. very patient and not intimidating like most guitarist who think are teachers!
A very cool thing about these vids on RU-vid is that you can reduce the speed to half so you can follow along easier if needed. But then it sounds like Joe is drunk Lmfao. I just imagine myself hanging out with him and having a few drinks! Dream come true!
i really really dig these Ibanez masters! Joe Satch is such an amazing inspiring artiste/performer and teacher. I wish i could learn from him directly.
when joe says 'the scale doesn't have to match up with the chord progression' and now i'm like fuck theories i'm just gonna play all scales in one jam track
11 notes I could never bring myself to keep all of this in my mind But every once and a while something clicks in the learning process that lines up sort of speak with what you are talking about thanks for posting c];-D
I started playing 17 years ago when I discovered Satch. Most inspirational musician, always has been. And this 2-part series pushed me into taking lessons after all this time because I want to know what I'm doing aha! That tone gives me eargasms! If anyone can help deconstruct it, I would really appreciate it - I'm trying to replicate it on my Pod HD500 but no luck thus far (and none of what I found on CustomTone comes close)
Joe, i wish i could have you has teacher, i play the guitar since my 16, aand i know yor music since 1997 with " surfing with the allien " and some time later " Flying in a blue dream "; i've learning by myself since all this time, but, even loving your style, i take another side of music, " Bossa Nova " and " Jazz", however i need more information about scales and modes, so i can play your beautyfull song's! i did try it but,far from your performance! peace and keep doing ur great work!
What is the chord he is playing at 5.34?He says it is E minor 7th right? But it looks like he is not playing Eminor7 .E minor 7th has the E G B D ..Can someone tell me which strings and notes he plays there?
What do you mean by (g/e)? First chord he plays is Fsharp power chord I get it.But second one is Em7(he says). But when I look at what he is doing there is not like he is playing the chord he is talking about..
@ 4:11 is the exact reason why Joe Satriani is a more palatable, and even more successful artist/guitar player, than Steve Vai....and other extremely good guitar players; who are too wrapped up in the technical aspect. I mean each to their own.....but in terms of commercial success...Joe nails it. Better songwriting, memorable melodies and solo's that you can feel.
