"Dangerous Blues," sung by Joe Savage, former muleskinner and Parchman Farm inmate, on the levee in Greenville, Mississippi. Shot by Alan Lomax, Worth Long, and John Bishop, on September 2, 1978. Alan Lomax recorded another version of this holler in 1959 from a Parchman prisoner named Floyd Batts. It was also popular in the women's camp: Alan's father John A. Lomax recorded it sung by a group of female prisoners in 1933, and in 1937 Herbert Halpert recorded a solo version at the camp performed by Mattie May Thomas. Ol' Joe Savage gives me the chills. The way he hollers each song as if it was the last time he would ever sing it....THIS is the blues.

Real blues, you can feel it in your bones. You can see the pain the man's had in his life. Rich multimillionaire guitar boys living in a fantasy world can imitate but it ain't the real thing.

@@benjaminholt6640 I’m not keen on Clapton’s music, but he has had pretty much the worst thing that could happen to anyone happen to him. So I expect he genuinely has got the blues. Money isn’t everything.

Dangerous Blues --------------------------- Some people keep on talkin' 'bout old dangerous blues. Boys, if I had my old 45 'matic(?) [from automatic], I'd be damned, it's true. Ain't but a one time, boys, that I've done wrong . I shot my pistol and then were on men's town. Kevin George told me 'fore (short for before?) dead, 'fore it came to one at me. Arkansas city was sure. Gonna get on a train. . Joe Savage Band... it would be awesome! Joe surely deserved(s) it. Seems as it's in Dm.
