My impromptu interview with the passionate, cool and kind leader of the Clash. Filmed in the backstage camping area of Glastonbury '97. Enjoy, Moan Red www.moanred.com/
This is so interesting, you see his transformation from how everyone knew joe to mescaleros joe. Still looked quite good but his voice is very well on the way to how it was in '99.
Joe was such a loveable scruff. Must have been a reaction against the public school upbringing. Once, while on holiday in New York, the Clash guitarist Mick Jones decided to check out of the hotel he was saying and check into a better, swankier one. By coincidence, he bumped into Joe's best friend and violinist in his pre-Clash band the 101'ers, Tymon Dogg. So he filled him in: "I had to get out of the first hotel, Tymon. It was such a fucking shithole. But you and Joe would've loved it!"
