Joe Strummer of The Clash interview on MTV 120 Minutes with Dave Holmes (1999.10.03)
If you are an avid 120 Minutes fan and a trader/collector of actual episodes of the show, do please drop me a line. Although I have a fair number of shows, I am always looking for more in order to archive as many as possible, if you are willing to share, trade, or sell, please contact me.
If you recorded the show on VHS and still have your original video tapes but don’t have the capability of transferring to dvd and/or digital, I’d be more than happy to transfer them for you and send your original VHS back to you along with dvd and/or digital files.

Love this guy, and damn I miss him. When I was in college, around 1981, a buddy turned me in to the Clash’s “London Calling” double LP. They quickly became my favorite band and that album is still, in my opinion anyway, the greatest album of all time. Thru the years my appreciation of the band’s catalog has only grown. It took all 4 of those guys to make it great, but Joe was definitely the leader. On a side note, though I enjoyed watching this interview for the first time, it also bums me out to realize he’s got a ticking time bomb in his chest, when this was filmed. Makes me inevitably wonder what if…. Anyhow, RIP John Graham Mellor. You were one cool cat.

He's so much lighter and jovial here compared to the Clash and clash mk2 days. Excellent album as well.😊

He most certainly was. When I had the honor and privilege of hanging out with him in October ‘01, he discussed this in depth with me. He went through so many major changes throughout that period (‘85-‘95), and essentially came out the other side stripped of his ego and… sorry if this sounds a bit ‘new-agey’… but cleansed, for lack of a better description. He told me that he was so wrapped up in his ego after the Clash broke big, and basically referred to himself in those days as a completely different person, almost in the third person sense. By this time he was so in touch with himself. I grew up with Joe as one of my big heroes as a young punk, and once I finally got to meet and know him (yes, I know how that sounds, but Joe bared his soul to everyone that night)… my respect and admiration for him only went so much higher. He really was a gift to the world. I can’t think of a better example of how to live life.
