Joe Tex was and remains one of the most underrated and often overlooked artists ever in the popular world of music. His story is hardly ever told. His legacy isn't embraced. Tex's legacy isn't celebrated enough.
I was a kid in the 70's when my mother would buy and play his records I got cha , and Ain't gonna bump no more was my favorite along with the dance, The Bump. Joe Tex need to be recognized and put in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
The more you live is the more you learn...as a boy growing up in the sixties and seventies i know a few songs with Joe tex but never knew he carries such a huge catalog....and that performance i never have a clue i think it was only James brown alone have those moves what a man what a performance very good Joe tex you live forever in world of music
By the early 70s I was 7 or 8 years old growing up in Los Angeles as a Muslim Child. We were followers of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. I had previously heard a song by Joe about a girl with skinny legs, but he had a new song called I got cha that I loved. A few years later in 1974 we attended a meeting in LA and the speaker was Yusef Hazeez aka Joe Tex. I just learned today in 2021 that he had actually become a Muslim in 1966 which I never knew
Oh yes!! I was 14 years old when that song came out. My friends and I would sing it to death! Ain't nothing today like those songs because you could sing along with them. The entertainers today and their music is horrible!! I quote the words of the god father of soul, " They just ain't got no soul! ". Long live soul music!
My first memory of Mr Tex is I was in the first grade when I Gotcha came out the boys would dance to the song and the girls would run. My second Joe Tex memory is years later I think I was in the 8th grade and I was doing my homework and on school night my mother yelled come here Joe Tex was singing Ain’t gonna bump no more. Years later I bought my first c d the Atlantic Records story and it is there that I was introduced to his broader work.
Me too. I turned 7 in August 1970 and it was my favorite song at that time even though I was a Muslim child growing up in a very strict Los Angeles household
At David Jones(department store) record bar, Newcastle NSW Australia, during my second year of high school, after school I called in at DJ's, as it was called, and found all these American ex-jukebox 45s, among them I'd eventually buy 6 Joe Tex singles, all on the Atlantic-distributed, Buddy Killen-owned Dial label, Show Me, Truest Woman In The World, Men Are Gettin' Scarce, Papa Was Too(flip of Truest Woman...), C.C. Rider, and some others. At that time I'd never heard of Joe Tex(in 1969 at age 14), I just bought these exotic 45s and played them on my HMV Minigram, using the pop-up centre-spindle adaptor to centre them properly on the turntable. I still have them, 48 years on.
Is me or does he not sound like James brown? Great entertainer Joe tex ! Love James brown don't know why I never heard of Joe tex . Growing up in Brooklyn new York, surprised that he wasn't on the radio? I don't remotely anytime hearing his music. Dam he is sooo good! I'm listening now. 2022
mrstanbmw now that was good..a friend of mine said the same thing .now i'm a fan of Charlie Wilson and never heard it in his singing voice until listening to this video
I was floored when Otis Redding and members of The Bar Kays were killed in a plane crash. There were brothers who literally cried when he died. Otis was 27 years old.
@@ronniemoon57 it look like Joe Tex was doing his thing way before James got on the scene and ole James Brown sort of amplified it when he got on the Ed Sullivan show.
Joe Tex is the backbone a hip hop because how he was rapping on how you say oh I got you and how we sample his music through hip Hop Joe text deserve to be and nothing to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if anybody going to induct him. I think it should be a Texas native Son and I think that Texas native Son should be Quentin Tarantino hey Quentin. If you read this message through RU-vid even though you don't do social media I think you should be the one to end up inducting Joe Tex into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Why Michael Jackson never claimed Joe Tex as an inspiration? He didn't sing as good as James Brown, Jackie Wilson but he was a showstopper with those dance moves like them!!!
James Brown is not a real singer, more like a screamer. But that doesn't take away his talent and energy to perform. He definitely had one of the best soul bands in music history.
Joe Tex was a better vocalist than James Brown. Brown originally started out doing good vocals but he eventually morphed into a screamer and that's how he stayed right till the end of his career. But as far as vocals go Tex definitely had more Range than Brown. And Jackie Wilson was totally in a class by himself as a vocal powerhouse.
U must understand, musicians are u rooted undisciplind men who must be kept in line for an on the road band to prosper. James Brown knew it. NUFF SAID!
@@justiceforall6412 I've read The Illiad 5 times in 3 different translations and corresponded with one of said translators. Your opinion isn't worthy of comment but I'm feeling ornery tonight. Have another drink.
Men are scared just like hen teeth yeah Used to be time when a woman could get a man with just her charms Now in order for woman to get a man She got take him she got take him she got take him Out of another woman arms
JB was extremely competitive..but the beef was over one of Mr Tex leftovers..I believed they borrowed and respected each other artistically but Mr Brown was cold in them days. The stories are out there..Taurus vs Leo
Joe Tex. Famously known as, "The 37th Hardest Working Man in Show Business"... Which, honestly, is still really good if you think about how many people there are in show business. Terrible nickname though. Just terrible. 🤷♂🤦♂️
