I'm sorry but did I miss something? What did Joe say that was so remarkable? It's also weak coming from JOE TORRY the same dude who made his career roasting people in the front row of Def Comedy Jam! If you have a bias and simply don't like Chris Rock, just say it but don't try to make it seem like Joe Torry just gave this scholarly analysis that's going to change the way we see the situation. Ya'll get on my nerves! lol
@@whogoesyondernetwork , In the middle of the clip, I liked your comment, but as it ended, I take it back and I don’t agree with you, and in hindsight, you’re the type to get on my last nerve. Most people didn’t see it like you and at least half or better, especially “hood” folks, saw it like Tory just explained. You can’t keep getting up in front of the WORLD and roasting my bisch, and seemingly maliciously..and I say “seemingly” because of the past back and forths they’ve already had behind the scenes which did seem kind of personal. This was an ongoing issue that finally ran its toll. At the end of the day we are all infantile in comparison to the grand scheme and just like Most of us learned in elementary school, keep running your mouth and talking shid about my mama/the woman in my life and watch how you eventually will get punched in the mouth..and I don’t care who’s watching or who you go tell.
@@the44118 true, but Tory was roasting different people on different occasions. If he was to pick ONE particular person everytime he does a show then??? If Vlad was getting roasted at every show he wouldn’t go to comedy or he will be sitting in the back being avoided. Simple as that

Vlad kept trying to compare it to a comedy show but also the prestigious "Oscars" in the same breath. That's a cop out. Chris wouldn't have joked about Denzel wife.
Or any white man’s wife on his biggest night. The producers knew exactly what he was going to say and actually approved it. This wasn’t an improv moment, IT WAS ALL PLANNED BY THE PRODUCERS AND CHRIS.
@@willellis502 It doesn't make it a Comedy Show. No matter how you slice it. Vlad's point is that you don't sit in front at a comedy show because you know you'll get roasted. First...you don't pick your own seats at the Oscars. Second...the Host is ACTUALLY supposed to make jokes about the movies being nominated, and the nominees.
FINALLY someone said it! I don't condone that slap, but I DEFINITELY understood the WHY. My mama used to say, "Where you decide to clown me at, is where I will step into MY Bozo shoes and clown RIGHT along with you! Damn the repercussions!" That was her way of saying don't act no fool when we get in public. Chris has being doing all that PUBLIC clowning with them. Will said, okay here we go, let me step into MY Bozo shoes!
My friend worked security at the Oscar. He specifically stated that he was present for the rehearsals and all the jokes were rehearsed during the rehearsal; however, he stated that the jada joke was not apart of the original monologue. He stated that all the security looked at each either because they knew that joke wasn’t apart of the show. He said Will was genuinely hurt because all the guest even said “Chris finally picked the wrong night to clown her.” He clowned tha lady continuously at all his award hosting…leave that lady alone. It’s giving obsession
Even if this story is true, that's still a ridiculous reaction from Will. Also, leave her alone? The woman who boycotted the Oscar's because there weren't enough black nominees (though there were plenty of other minorities nominated and blacks had won awards in the recent years before that)? The woman who made a spectacle of her family with that red table talk nonsense, discussing affairs in front of her husband? Chris made fun of that fact that she shaved her head... How about she behaves like a normal adult in the public eye, if she doesn't want to get clowned? Also, she wasn't the only wife to get joked on that night. Chris Rock made a joke about Javier Bardem and his Wife. Kirsten Dunst was told to move out of her chair due to an Amy Schumer prank.
This is the most unbiased opinion on this situation i ever seen and i think it's fair. And it's coming from someone who is friends with chris and doesn't know will
Joe made sense regarding how Will was feeling. I just wish Will would have pulled Chris aside later and check him. I honestly felt the joke was light but I’m not Jada.
Comedy show and Oscar are two different venues. There is also a difference between a malicious joke and a fun joke or who’s making the comment. I know there are some people you’ll allow to say crazy stuff to you but there are others who will get the beat down if you think they were trying to be slick out the mouth and they might not even meant it that way.
Joe Torry is saying what I've been saying... But to add more - Everyone praises Chris for being professional after the slap. But no one calls him unprofessional for going off script and ridiculing a person he admittedly had an issue with. You clowned Wills wife in front of those white folks - and Will slapped you in front of those white folks. The Oscars isn't the comedy club, you don't go to the Oscars to do crowd work.
Y’all sound ridiculous & krazy! Ppl can say whteva they’d like, But in MANY STATES u can & will b killed for putting ur hands on people for NOTHING. Try Jesus….NOT 👁️🤷🏾♂️
The Oscar's has ALWAYS had crowd work. Not one time has a comedian got up there and not given crowd work. He was wrong for slapping another man In public like that. As a man, Will should have had that conversation behind closed doors, and if it lead to a fade, so be it. But doing that, in the public eye is fuccin crazy. And yall tryna rationalize it, knowing most of yall ain't never been pressed like that, let alone seen real violence up close, is absolutely astonishing to me. Yall so comfortable laying yall hands on people for words, as if people haven't been killed for less, unnecessarily. Yall only this tough on the internet
I really think Will WANTED everyone to see it. That was him breaking out of that image of him. Plus he been talked about feeling weak for watching his mom get beat, as a kid. But anyway, what changes it from a normal situation is the fact that Will and Chris had already had that conversation prior. And they also already had tensions over Jada. So, the fact yall had this conversation already and you doing it anyway, now It feels like… “ha ha.. so, you think its a game? Okay, I’ma show you something.” Seen this type of situation in way too many different ways. And They been salty towards Chris for like 7 Years prior to that. So no it’s not just the same as sitting front row at the comedy show. Not saying it’s right, but, saying it’s not abnormal. They just happen to be famous. People fight like this in public over a dude liking another dude’s girl picture on instagram. They just humans at the end of the day lol famous humans
Remember.... This is not a comedy show. This is the Oscars. I was sat down in the front, at the Oscars!!! It's a big difference from the Oscars and a Comedy show
Did you not see how Ricky Gervais obliterated people at that awards he hosted the last time? A complete annihilation of the rows from the front to the back.
Shit was felt all over the world. I was in Jamaica minding my business. I heard it and ask what was that. This old man said Wil just slapped Chris Rock. Pops wasn't even watching a tv
This interview is the articulate I've ever seen Joe Torry act. He's not emotional but speaks from wisdom. He's nothing like this in his comedy or the movie roles he plays.
I was always on will smith's side. people spent like 2 years cutting his ass. in a time where everybody want to talk about mental health, people sure acted like somebody can't have a breaking point, acted like a person can't change their mind about the way they felt about what somebody said .we ask for celebrities to not act like they are better this us "regular people". yet when a man who has done nothing controversial for 30 years, behaves as a person might when they are upset and not thinking straight, everybody called him a terrible human being immediately.
I didn’t choose sides, I simply empathized with both of them and I say from jump , Chris possibly deserved that slap. Now don’t show out in front these yt folks, or I might be obliged to react.
I AGREE COMPLETELY, WILL SMITH IS A STELLER HUMAN BEING WHO MADE A MISTAKE, HE DIDN'T KILL ANYONE . EVERY ONE HAS A BREAKING POINT, AND SOMETIMES NEEDS THERAPY. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEEN IM GOING BE LIKE SOME OF THESE IDIOTS.
Glad to hear somebody who makes sense. Chris was out of line embarrassinng somebodys wife like that . Are you crazy ???...and Will smack the smile off his goofy behind at the Oscars, who cares it could be anywhere .
Unfortunately it back fired on Will because he didn't think things through. I always say, when someone exacts hurt on someone else, the person they are changing is themselves. Will did himself a disservice that night. He even had to run to some Tibetan type monks to get his life!
@@Footplanet34 What are you talking about Will is living his best life. I follow him on Instagram and he's still the same down to earth positive dude. @anime fridge and unfortunately Jada didn't have his back as his wife to call out his name or something to stop him....to protect her honor at ALL COST! 😮 Was it worth it? Only Will & Jada can answer that....
Actually Willis out of line, all black production all black producer biggest stage on the planet and you wanna have a Nigga moment. If Chris was in the wrong why is Will Smith apologizing🤔
Joe hit this on the head. Everyone defending Chris yet would likely do or feel similar to Will if they were in his shoes. Please tell me where in the entire world does someone get an unlimited pass for talking about someone else's wife? I know comedians get extra room to talk trash but Chris has been on Jada's case for YEARS. I'm not trying to directly defend Jada btw , just the unwritten rules the world agrees to that talking about a man's wife and family are almost always off limits, but for some reason in Chris Rock's case a large percentage of people suddenly want to make an exception to the rule. As Joe also mentioned, most if not all men would rather be the one being poked fun at rather than their wife, so as odd is this example may sound it'd be better for me to talk trash to some battle tested warrior than for me to go talk trash to that warrior's wife. Not saying either of the two scenario's ends well, but statistically speaking if I could run a simulated experiment, I believe the one where I talk trash directly to the warrior is the one with the best survivability .
@@poundtrader1414 Yes you're right but there are many methods/measures that could've been taken. BTW I want to make it clear I'm not advocating for violence, but I am saying that if a person were to make a list of potential outcomes in talking trash on another man's wife, physical violence should be pretty high on the list. Sure if I wanted to walk up and pet 100 different grizzly bears, a few might actually let me do it and I leave without a hair harmed on my precious little head, but I know that another outcome in that situation [likely much greater] is me getting mauled to death by the bear. So with all that being said I guess just do the right thing at the beginning and don't make fun of people or pet bears like they're a golden retriever.
“GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see it”. Idk I mean, not everyone’s the same. Yes, it’s your wife but you have to decide whether or not you’re gonna risk it all or not to defend her honor because of a joke that would’ve been forgotten in that very minute. I, myself would’ve waited until commercial break or after the awards to personally confront Chris. But than again, I wouldn’t be with my wife if she had an entanglement with my sons friend. So… yeah man. Any man in Will shoes would or should have the smarts to have left Jada a long time ago.
And you Joe's point, you can get run up anywhere. They just tried to kill the Japanese Prime Mi iister in HD Saturday. Remember, the jester, when he told a bad joke he got beheaded.
@@dawb86 Yeah but a lot of those people in the audience don't care for that all they do is just smile and take it and just move on I mean look at the Golden Globes all those years with Ricky Gervious You thought everybody liked his jokes on him just shitting on everybody in the crowd all the time they tolerate it because the net work and the Hollywood foreign press wanted him.
Fine. Then according to you, the response should have been the same regardless who told the joke, no matter if it was The Rock, Terry Crews or what if it was a woman like Amy Schumer? You think Will Smith would have did that then. Hell no because hitting either of them would have result in serious bodily harm, death or the absolute ruin of his career, especially if he hit a white person and even more so a white woman. If Smith would not have kept that same energy with either of the people above out of fear, then in his mind, he hit Rock b/c he was the smaller black man who he could get away with hitting. That makes Will Smith the bully and NOT Chris Rock. Secondarily, how the hell is a woman who sleeps with her son's best friend in her husband's house a victim, her son's friend who was strung out on drugs and suffering from depression. How is a grown woman who molested 14 year old Chris Kelley a victim? Kelley ended up committing suicide on drugs years later. Jada Pinkett given the same treatment as R. Kelly or better yet Nate Parker who was black balled after the woman who accused him of rape committed suicide. Jada Pinkett Smith is no victim. She is a predator of the highest degree and she should be in prison just like R. Kelly. It's only because society gives passes to women for predatory behavior that she's not. Nevertheless, If violence is ok for you in this situation, then I say let who has the capacity for the most violence wins and Chris Rock's huge family, which is very connected to the streets should have their way with Smith next time he's in New York. The bottom line is Will Smith should either be in prison, in the hospital, and in the cemetery. And his sick wife should be right there with him.
@@DrAlexanderHamilton - Now you sound silly 😂🤣. That little girly slap Will gave Chris registers as nothing more than a Class C Misdemeanor in law enforcement. A man with no priors wouldn't have gotten prison time. At best he would have been sentenced to anger management. It's funny seeing all the Hollywood Hypocrites ready to tar and feather WS when the very institution of Hollywood is built on sex and violence. I've seen that same slap dozens of times on the 3 Stooges. I've seen people in movies casually pull out guns and open fire and run away into the night like it was nothing. Alec Baldwin just deleted a woman while playing with a gun. Now after one slap, you and your Hollywood club of Hypocrites want to make Will Smith the face of violence. You all are crying 😭 like he shot the dude while all the while having to pretend as if they have a righteous leg to stand on knowing full well they get paid very handsomely from Hollywood - the biggest purveyors of sex and violence the world has ever known. You can miss me with that 💩. And let's get something straight. People want to assume that had Chris Rock would have been bigger, badder, or whiter, Will wouldn't have had the nerve to hit poor little innocent Chris, making the totally incorrect assumption that he was slapped for his size and not his misdeeds. People like you want to totally ignore all the times CR made Jada the butt of his jokes over the years, and that's twice on an Oscar stage!!! How much bullying and antagonizing do they have to accept for the sake of a laugh? I've never once seen The Rock get on stage and humiliate anyone's wife, much less twice like CR did (and continues to have her name in his mouth). Terry Crews isn't making one woman the butt of his comedic banter, so it's a ridiculous comparison. A more appropriate observation is that CR would NEVER continuously take blows at the wife of a yt Hollywood A Lister, but feels totally comfortable attacking a blk woman (in front of yt folks). Maybe it really is Chris who's the bully who knows who to and who to not F with. He wouldn't have the courage to insult Tom Cruise's wife, but degrading other blk people is fine with him. That certainly sounds like the characteristics of a bully to me 🤔. And let's address one more thing: Will and Jada's relationship is no one's business but their own. People get so emotional talking about their hatred for Jada while Will is perfectly fine showing off his queen to the world, despite their extra-marital affairs. It was him that pretty much declared that they have an open marriage, why do you care more about what she does than him? The "entanglement" was about 5 years ago, but Chris Rock wants to spin a narrative that all of this is still fresh on WS mind and the reason behind the slap when nothing could be further from the truth. CR is avoiding taking responsibility for his misdeeds by deflecting onto Will and Jada's relationship and it seems as if 95% of the sheep are falling for his con game. If he were any kind of good man at all, he would apologize for insulting this woman's disease, but he has yet to admit his mistake. He'd rather play the victim. And for the record, I never said Jada was a victim. But with that said, she doesn't deserve to continuously be the butt of Chris's mean-spirited jokes either. All of this talk about her being a predator is ridiculous considering August Alsina was a grown man that initiated the relationship with Jada (with Will's blessings according to him). Plus we have absolutely no evidence of Jada ever having an intimate relationship with Kris Kross, so essentially what we're doing is believing gossip at this point. Bottom line is that Will Smith took his wife to the Oscar's as they prepared for what was likely going to be the biggest night of his career, and here comes loudmouth Chris Rock once again humiliating JPS for a few laughs and essentially ruining the evening he spent his whole acting career preparing for. Chris deserved that Class C Misdemeanor slap. His constant antagonizing of JPS was too much for Will to deal with so he went off. I don't blame him one bit.

I agree with Joe Torry. The wife and kids should be off limits, especially at an event like the Oscars. The Oscars isn't some crusty comedy club. Winning an Academy Award is often considered the most prestigious honor you can receive in Hollywood. Smith is only the fifth Black man to win the Academy Award for best actor, following in the footsteps of the late Sidney Poitier, Washington, Forest Whitaker, and Jamie Foxx. It should have been a wonderfully historic night for the community where Smith could be praised, honored and celebrated for his incredible portrayal of the father of two of the greatest female athletes. Instead, Chris Rock went out of his way to target Will's wife in a negative way. Why? Perhaps the 'powers that be' gave Chris the green light to go after Jada AGAIN because she had called for that boycott some years back. Payback? There could also be a personal reason as to why Chris keeps targeting Jada. It could be a combination of both.
So, you'd have gone up there and slapped him too. And decimated your entire career, and done it for a woman for whom most folks don't exactly respect for her personal behavior either? I'd have gone and taken the microphone from Chris, and made fun of his sorry marriage, his entire sorry life as he was never able to defend himself in school due to his scrawny body, and likely because of his screechy voice, etc...and Smith has the talent to do this with great effect. But instead he ruined his career, and lowered the value of the show IMO. The fact that he was allowed to stay there and be applauded later for his award is actually quite sick IMO.
Finally, I get it. Big thanks to Joe Torry for making me a fan of Will Smith's work once again. Everything he had accomplished to this point, I felt had gone down the drain but it's ok. God is great!!!! Chris should leave them alone fr fr

Chris has only hosted the Oscars three times. 2005, 2016 and 2022. In 05 he made no mention of Jada. He roasted her in 16 for her trying to publicly shame him to not host the Oscars. He joked her in 22. That's only two times Chris went at her.
THANK YOU JOE! What annoys Me about that whole situation is that people seem to either have selective memories, (which is inexcusable), OR they lack the knowledge of the disrespectful "joke" that Chris Rock told at Jada's expense at the 2016 Oscars, (which I can excuse so will enlighten people on). Back in 2016, Jada campaigned to boycott the Oscar's do to lack of diversity, a stance she took FOR OUR PEOPLE. Chris took it upon himself to poke fun at Jada for doing so claiming she wasn't invited, something that I, as a Black person found in extremely poor taste since it just tickled the hell out of all the white people in attendance. I found the "joke" having a disgusting "Uncle Tom" feel to it and for those who want say it was just a joke, I don't take lightly to puns made at My people's expense. It is this incident, and the subsequent wisecracking again at Jada's expense at last year's Oscar's that saw Will smack the taste out of Chris' mouth. The only reason that I, as a continued fan of Will's, have a problem with him smacking Chris is that it put a huge blight on his Oscar win which he had been waiting for and deserving of for so long and the incident put a huge damper on a movie made in homage to and acknowledgement of the history making Williams sisters and their father's accomplishment in creating not one but two legends.
I would agree with that if Jada and will hadnt put all their shit in public to be commented on. Who's to say that chris didnt think it was a big deal because everyone was roasting him and jada and calling him a bitch before the oscars. So, there were so many other people for him to lash out at. He didnt lash out at them; he didnt lash out at anyone, except chris. So it could also be said dont put your business in the street if you dont want it talked about. It doesnt matter what the joke was. Will and Jada made themselves the laughing stocks. Thats why chris won his lawsuit. will was wrong.
Great comment people do have selective memory. They pick and choose what to remember. And feed the dogs to whoever they see RU-vid comedians are against, it’s sickening to watch. This is at Chris’s first time disrespecting the Smiths publicly
Really? Jada wasn't taking a stance for people of color...just will cuz he was not nominated. That joke he told then was harmless. Go somewhere with your eeak excuses and analogies.
Quit giving Will Smith a pass he laughed at the joke, what Will Smith did was wrong why is he reaching out to Chris rock to apologize and it’s not the other way around
@@redmanjohnson4616 And the Selective Outrage concert that was televised by Netflix was filmed in Baltimore--Jada's hometown. Is that a coincidence, Redman Johnson?
Vlad like a lot of other people feel Jada isn’t the type of wife/woman that should be defended. They keep on bringing up Alsina as if Will didn’t know about him already.
@@aj25055 people can feel how they want to. The fact is that Chris continually stepped over the line while Will wasn’t there to say or do anything. This time he was there and he slapped Pooky back to the 90’s. Never disrespect a man’s wife and kids. That’s a lesson every man woman and child should FULLY understand.
Y'all stupid....will was clearly laughing at the joke that's one two he didn't say anything about Will's kids...he mentioned Jada....... will only did that cause she had a problem with what he said will is a certified bitch for that! I bet he wouldn't have done that to someone like Dwayne rock Johnson or even Mike tyson for that matter......he did it cause he knew he could have gotten away with it cause it's Chris rock........... Y'all kill me with trying to act like Jada is this angel
Thanks for keeping it Real! Sometimes you go beyond the folks involved and look at the big picture- What's Right and What's Wrong and not Who's right and Who's wrong! Much respect.
This is nothing but BS and a knee grow trying to pave a path. Nothing Chris said was that damn deep. For the most part, it was not a popular movie in the Black community. Black folks did not fill the theatre to see this movie. Black women are called every nasty name in the book and most Rapper's music and vocabulary, and that's permissive. The music places us as the most degraded all across the world. Speak on that. Ask what is the impact on our youth. After you have done that, ask Will why hadn't he confronted the young man who slept with his wife. That's the one he should have stepped to. The Oscar was about an industry that provides jobs for many people; it was about the artist and technicians. Will's " ego," thought it was all about him. He robbed everyone. He didn't dare confront the young man who stayed in his house, slept in his bed, and ate his food. Will and his defenders are without integrity. Somebody run and tell that!
@Mae Jackson THE OSCARS, WAS NOT THE PLACE TO SOLVE, OR DISPLAY ALL OF WILL SMITH'S PERSONAL ISSUES, NOR WAS THE OSCARS A PLACE TO CONTINUOUSLY DRAGG JADA ON HER MEDICAL CONDITION. APPARENTLY, THERE IS FAULT ON BOTH SIDES. WILL SMITH WAS WRONG ON HOW HE ADRESSED HIS DIFFERENCE.I RESPECT CHRIS ROCK FOR BEING A CLASS ACT AND NOT CONTRIBUTE TO TOXICITY. CHRIS ROCK RECIEVED THE ULTIMATE REPARATIONS AND SHOULD NOW UNDERSTAND THAT HE WASNT BEING BULLIED, HE WAS INVOLVED IN A MUCH NEEDED CRY FOR HELP.
How you gonna tell someone when they should do something? I’m quite sure there are several things you let slide that I or others wouldn’t. That’s just crazy to me.
One thing u got misconstrued vlad is the fact that, that wasn't a COMEDY show...it was the oscars...a place and situation for being praised and revered...not to mention they have spoken about it before, and he took it upon himself to target her cuz she was an easy target...
I love Joe Torry. I have ever since I saw him on Def Comedy Jam way back in the day. I still remember "Girl, your glasses are so thick, I bet we look like fish in a fish bowl to you!"
I really appreciate you saying all that you said Joe Torry. Everybody want to go with the flow and support this little dude. He was out of line and enough was enough a statement had to be made. And Will made the statement. How about he shouldn't be hosting any other Oscar's, BET awards anything that has to do with Hollywood if he can't find new material.
