Couldn't believe it. However it's actually not a crime in certain states, countries, and airports. Surprisingly. But also sort of unsurprising considering the fuckin awful effects. xD

That local honey thing is 100% true, I bought wildflower honey from a local bee keeper and the difference between that and the store bought honey is night and day!
@@palpetru1408 Fake honey refers to a honey-like product that has been modified with flavours, fillers, dyes, and sugar. In fact, some fake 'honey' may not even contain any bee honey at all, instead being manufactured of a mix of glucose syrups, inverted sugar solutions (from refined sugar) or corn, cane or beet syrup.

Joe Rogan promptly hesitates. Did you watch the video? You're kind of proof that someone can stare at bald faced reality and then still walk away with a preffered version of events. Poor media literacy skills.
I have tried this! And got high for 2 days. Consulted a doctor and it took 3-4 days to come back into normality. i regret trying this. I REGRET trying this.
Sonny is someone who brings people together through somthing absolutely fundamental - FOOD The man never judges but always accepting. He is one hell of a human being. Just love him
I love that this dude just *happened* to be collecting hallucinogenic honey and watching JRE and gets in touch and Joe immediately gets him on the show 😂
@@thegreatmcgeezy7527 Yeah I know who he is actually, watched a vid of his once he seems pretty cool, just didn't want to make a long winded comment. He probably could've gotten on the show anyway but still kinda funny and very "Joe Rogan" how he captured his interest.
It was no mistake and the only way someone as boring, narcissistic and egocentric as Sonny could "buy" his way onto the show. Super corrupt and lame af.
Just wanted to say, I love your show man... please keep them coming. It's my way to relax at the end of a hard day working... there's nothing worth a s**t on TV anymore so I'm thankful I've got your podcasts.

Smoke: does not repel bees, it disrupts their signaling (communication) so they tend to stay calmer. Mad Honey: the potency varies tremendously so tread lightly for starters. The Turkish varieties are really good also. (FYI - still illegal in the U.S. unfortunately).
Well prior to that Joe had Paul Stamets on a few times and Paul discussed the importance of bees to the world and the whole ecosystem cuz without bees apparently the world collapses pretty fast
As a nepali kid, this was my goto during my exams - 1 spoon honey with tea and aced my every exam. My teacher was always like you're a happy kid :). I'm a happy engineer now.

One of the more dangerous parts of this job is climbing the cliffs in order to put the rope ladders up for others to use. I'm guessing that the quality of the honey and the potency of the hallucinogen likely varies from nest to nest and year to year as it does with regular, Aviary honey.
Eating some right now as I am watching this, and he is right. As soon as you eat it, it's as if eating heavy cinnamon. It's a weird heat like feeling, but I wouldn't say hot pepper hot feeling. As well as that feeling in the back of your throat, nearly a few moment of eating it, that feeling was there as well. About five minutes into it currently, feeling good. Wow, this is something
🇬🇧 Oh so weird! I'm a fairly old granny now but as an Art Student in the early 1970s I was in Tibet & travelling round to different places, we ate loads of honey with meals. I don't think it was Mad Honey, but being up in the Himalayas with it's high altitude & ratified air, it could have been mad honey, as it takes a while to acclimatise & often times my friends & I felt rather " drunk" but we didn't drink any alcohol. Also we felt fairly happy most of the time & laughed at everything, which made us giddy & light headed We believed it was the high altitude Maybe not though. What I did like but none of my friends did, was the Yak Tea Which was a sort of herbal green tea flavoured with Yak Butter It smells abit pongy, but it's only mildly cheesy-ish. The tea is hot & could be described as greasy but I didn't think so, it's an acquired taste & is refreshing & eases up your muscles & helps energy levels when hiking about. It can be sweetened with honey for European tastes. I think we may have smoked some questionable herbal tobacco in pipes but I honestly hadn't taken drugs before so wouldn't know if we were stoned or not but do clearly remember laughing all the time, feeling not a care in the world & a great sense of wellbeing, healthily so. So whether it was the rarified air, mad honey or herb pipes, I felt so strong healthy & full of energy but incredibly mellow... 🤗 Thanks for the vid Hope you had a blast later Joe. Peace & Good Cheer 🇬🇧🙆
I love how excited Joe was to try it at first, and after he told the story he was almost forced into trying it lmao, that tells you he probably would've taken a whole spoon at first, wich he would definetely regret after listenting to his story, so moral of the story, always listen to the story first, try later
Nice to have the provenance to something your about to eat, kinda like 'This wine was made from grapes grown on a French hillside soaked in the blood of a thousand warriors, which were then stomped by the bare feet of 12 milky white voluptuous women' ..it just tastes better and enhances the experience.
Yeah 😂 let him just drink the whole jar and buy the WHOLE GODDAMN TICKET and take that trip flyin' a bumble bee like a pegasus 😂 then once he starts askin' if its gettin hot in there, then tell him how stone cold horrible that weird golden goo is 😈

I once tried it and had the best sleep of my life. I am from Nepal. The indigenous Tamang community who harvest the honey has been doing it since generations and was used basically for medicinal benefits but now as it has gained popularity and demand, I worry about its sustainability.
@@douglashague2355 Apparently its legal here in the U.S. and its a growing thing here too. Vice did a video on it and even if they're disliked, vice is loved by drug heads looking for information on drugs.
Well, there are ways to extract honey sustainably, such as providing more sugar water for bees to survive the cold period (that's what they store honey for in the first place). Maybe there's a way to build apiaries there and harvest it as a sustainable resource, which would both bring wealth to your country, the beekeepers and increase the bee population. It will mean that these flowers that contain the medicinal chemical will need to be planted more as well.
@@-whackd Its not normal bee keeping lol Considering they grow on mountainsides, ide say its a MUCH harder task to harvest sustainably then you might think.
Nepal's Himalayan region, a natural gift in itself, harbors highly prized substances like Cordyceps Sinensis, Shilajit, and Mad Honey. Thank you for highlighting the special substances found in our country, Nepal.

Fun fact: The traditional Nepalese houses have a lot of timber elements such as structural elements, stairs, and windows. So , Nepali culture has a ritual where we use smoke from a charcoal incense burner and move it all around the house so that it drives away all the insects inside, it is a natural way to disinfectant and kill bugs.
Smoke is to calm the bees. When the bees sense the smoke, their instinct tells them theres a fire and they may have to leave the hive. So they gorge themselves with honey and it calms them down. It's amazing the difference smoke makes in calming the bees. I've been keeping bees for 25 years.
Just dropping this here for your enjoyment. My mother never passed up a bargain. When they were living in Okinawa during Vietnam, she purchased a 5 gallon bucket of "Reds Honey" and NEVER got rid of it. After retiring and moving to northern California, my mother made a small name for herself from her cakes and other creations. YEARS later, she admitted that most of her sweets were from that 5 gallon bucket, the SAME one she always sent me to with an old steel army spoon whenever I had a "sweet tooth" and nothing was ready. Mom's been gone years now, and I've NEVER been able to recreate her dishes or desserts.... PROBABLY because I was always looking in the USA for a brand name of Reds Honey, when ALL THIS TIME SHE WAS DOPING ANYONE SHE FED with MAD HONEY she purchased in a local market in Okinawa with "Red Honey" smeared in black marker. I'm 50 now, bought some from Amazon and lost about 40 years of memories as soon as I tasted it.
Bees react to smoke as an impending fire coming, they gather as much honey as they can, and when they are full of honey it’s very hard for them to use their stingers.
sonny is my absolute FAVORITE guy to watch as far as “food shows” …. he puts so much work and heart into what he brings his viewers. he not only has respect and curiosity for every single person, culture, country and dish he comes across. he truly tries to bring knowledge and share his own curiosity with everyone watching. 10/10 think everyone should check him out .
How funny. I am in Nepal right now visiting a friend and we were thinking of getting it so I can take it back home. Goodtip with the store brand jar because I wasn't sure how to take it with me. I believe that it is also used to meditate with it to get deeper into samadhi or absorption when they meditate. Can't wait to try it.
Those texts from his brother are freaking hilarious. The way they evolve to worse and worse and then finally ending at sunrise with, "should probably eat" is too real man hahaha
Lol. The guy is a beast. Going in for 6 spoonfuls with no hesitation. Joe on the other hand flicks his tongue (like a nervous little monkey...) at half a spoonful.
When bees smell smoke they go into save the honey mode presuming the hive is on fire. Regular honey bees mellow out when they’re full . That’s why beekeepers use smoke.
The flower is a type of rhododendron and it's because of a cytotoxin from the flower soo it is technically poisonous but there are reported health and possible spiritual benefits if used correctly
Yeah I really liked him he was a lot of fun going around to the different countries eating they're strange foods then it seemed like covid hit and it really screwed it up
Fr the amount of times RU-vid has tried to cancel him and his show is crazy!! As a Mexican who loved the Mexican delicacy’s that he shared with the world!!! Come on lets get cultured!!! :)
The active ingredient in hallucinogenic honey is a substance called grayanotoxin. It is found in the nectar of certain species of rhododendron flowers, which bees collect to make honey. Grayanotoxin can cause hallucinations and other psychoactive effects when consumed in large quantities. However, it is important to note that consuming hallucinogenic honey... makes people hallucinate?
I had a friend bring me some honey from the Moroccan mountains. 1 batch was very dark and burned when you ate it. The other batch was bright white, almost like milk. Both were wild honey. You can't beat the quality of that honey. Those bees gather nector from various herbs to produce the honey.
@@professoroak445 you're uneducated. It's sad, store bought honey normally is from 1 type of plant, they can collect pollen or nectar from various plants. In the wild they don't normally go for 1 specific plant, it goes for multiple. I've noticed tho that some hives oddly prefer different colored flowers over otherz
@@Secret_Assassins very quick to call someone uneducated when you yourself misunderstand what they’re talking about. The hallucinogenic honey Joe ate in this video has its pollen sourced from one specific plant. That’s what gives it the psychedelic properties. It’s cool that you clearly know a lot about bees but there’s absolutely no reason to talk down to other people for not sharing the same expertise.
@@Hoodie-K the hallucinogenic honey isn't what this comment is taking about buddy. He's talking about some honey he got himself. So you kept the uneducated stance going.
